A Boss does not have to be some guy that pops out with a healthbar and has a specific weakness.

A boss can be an Elite with an enhanced AI and stronger shields along with a bunch of cronies. A specifc Gold Elite given command of a special forces squad of Black Ops elites specifically assigned to take you out is most definitely a "Boss" even though he doesn't have the healthbar and weakness.

exactly. im using the term boss loosely here. i think there is a really good chance, we'll say a larger, more powerful creature appears in the game once or twice. and about what draerden was saying about the elites, bungie has been quoted as saying the elites will be even more animal like in nature, with the abilitly to possibly scale walls in certain enviornments. im sure there will be several unique scripted covie encounters too.

I always thought it might be pretty cool to encounter a brain-washed or mind-controlled Spartan... who knows?

1. bosses suck they are not realy hard or anything (exept ninja gaiden ones..woh man they hurt cause you can even die to the weakest enemy let alone a boss) its all about waiting for there weak point to open and then hurt them there then dodge a few shoots and do it again.

2. this new alien is supposed to be covenant and is supposed to be HUGE and NOT a brute.

When I think of FPS bosses I just think a unique enemy with better damage and/or AI and/or health. Bosses don't need to be indestructable save for a "weakness" and when they do I hate it. I also hate scripted boss events (ala Goldeneye).

well um is it me or did brutes and hunters seem to suppost to be bosses like the first tim u see them lik in my favorite level Silent Cartagropher i think, at the end theres a Gold elite the first time u see one, just one knda like a boss so yea bungie does have "bosses" but in a very very decrcete manner and the "bosses" usualy end up being a regualr enemy>

it would be fun to try and take on one big thing (it doesnt even have to be big).
if you think back to the first time you played halo-
when you first came up to a yellow elite, it was much like a boss.
even if they werent bosses, it would be fun to have something big to fight. it would be entirely different in the way you play (ie more hiding, room for more cleverness)

A boss has to be stronger than one well placed plasma grenade though.

Yup, no boss fights but exciting climaxes to every level. Maybe you are surrounded by loads of covenant vehicles and sword wielding elites and have to battle through them on your way to the air lock as you escape an enemy flooded covenant cruiser. Marines gun down as many as they can from ledges above with shade turret and warthoog LAAGs an sacrifice themselves to help you, the best soldier, escape and survive.

Not necessarily. I've faced a "boss" in Splinter Cell, some super Russian assassin mercenary type, I just popped up took a few shots at him to buy some time for me to think and accidentally plugged him between the eyes. He went down instantly leaving me standing in muted shock.

That was actually quite impressive, since later when I did it he was a tough bugger to beat.

I tell you, a single good early on Boss would be a special ops elite, dual wielding double plasma rifles that hounds you. I tell you, that could be scary. If you remember them from the maw... they NEVER miss.

This would be the scariest scenario ever (unless you've got multiple brutes lol) imagine it. Your in a ship like pillar of autumn and theres a special rank brute wielding his slug thrower and fuel rod cannon. You run away, but he rips the doors and pursuesyou like a savage, relentless beast. battering all the allies in his way and then your cornered with no where to turn.

You pull out your battle rifle you aim at his helmet. BANG BANG BANG! The helmet doesnt budge your screwed... You climb up a noticed ladder and he leaps up all ape like with massive arms smashing columns and twisting ladder steps. Your locked in a room and the column falls onto your escpe ladder locking you in....

You think to your self "Im screwed" and then the brute mashes you with his slug thrower and blasts you with a searing hot ruel rod. In the corner your shields are long gone and your bleeding rapidly...But...you remember the the gold elite you killed earlier and ignite your covenant energy sword, brace yourself, and charge into the brute with a powerful lunging strike.....

...you miss. but the brute doesn't.
You get pissed and are more determined to
kill that covie bastard.

That seems a little longwinded for Bungie. I could imagine something closer to that happening, but if u shot him in the head, Bungie would make it do something. If his armor was bulletproof like a Hunter's then Bungie would make him have the cracks in his armor. Bungie usually lets u kill anyone with any weapon (Except flood and sniper rifles).

I also heard that there was another type of covenant released, neither Brute or Engineer or Prophet.

Finally, in Truth and Reconciliation, when the 2 hunters come down the grav lift, that seems boss like to me. The music changes and everything.

Yeah i know all covies have weaknesses I was just trying to think of a good end of level thing that I thought would scare the crap outta people. LoL!

I read somwhere that Halo 2 will have a new rank of Elite... perhapes the chief gets locked in a room and has to fight this new elite until cortana unlocks the doors? If so that'd be reeeeeeeeaaaaaaalllllly cool.

Hey, it worked in Ninja Gaiden... I don't think it's such a good idea for Halo, though.

1.bosses totaly suck
2.if halo2 had any boss it would really suck
3.bungie should just make stronger enemies. like when MC had to fist fight that elite when he gets to the flagships control room in "The First Strike"

Not to be negative or anything, but I would loathe it. I have always hated bosses. They are very unrealistic. A few very hard guys to beat is one thing, a boss introduced by some cinimaticrots. Just my opinion.

Actually.. There were Bosses... In Halo... Those parts of the game where... There is Music A playing for a Long time then all off a sudden Music B starts to play and its gets difficult while Music B is playing... Another reason why Halo has the subtitle Combat Evovled... Its because, Early in the Gaming Days.. There was this one BIG Boss.. Now Combat and Gaming has EVOVLED. Because, There is more then one boss there are bosses... Now I know what your thinking.. How can a Grunt be considered a boss? Well to be honest... It isnt but when there a bunch of other Aliens in the way.. It slows u down and everything..

I sure hope this time around you don't have to protect anybody, I hate it when keyes runs out and gets his face shot off with a shotgun by the flood, anoying. I like me vs. the world, and not worrying about other stupid(sorry but in halo 1 they were at times) AI characters.

The problem with Keyes is that they gave him a standard marine AI. In Halo2 the AI's have been upgraded and more customized so if it does happen the person you're protecting probably won't charge.
