This is a RETICULE, and that is a RETICLE. I'm using the latter to aim. And what are you using?

I just played two FFA slayer matches on a dedicated server (already forgot which one it was). I joined when there were two people playing on HeH, pistol only as starting weapon, all weapons on map. One was Rober [NL], and I didn't get the name of the other one because he quit when I entered. By then Rober [NL] had 11 kills and zero deaths, so I thought this could be a challenge or even straight out tough.

Obviously, my first impression was wrong; I encountered Rober [NL] and he started FRGing me. I killed him, and he dropped an empty RL and the FRG. He respawned on top of blue base, right next to the frag nades, immediately running to the FRG. I just exited the tunnel leading up to blue base right under the flag pole, and I killed him before he reached the FRG (I knew where he had respawned because radar was on). Well, it went on that way: he respawned, immediately rushed to either the FRG, RL, or flamethrower (whatever was closest to him), and I killed him on his way there with the pistol and sometimes with a little help of a frag nade. A few times he didn't rush to one of those weapons, but switched to nade-spamming blue base from where the frag nades spawn on red base. After I killed him 14 times in a row without dying myself, a new player joined: killerlars. I killed Rober [NL] two more times before I realized that killerlars was still standing where he spawned; joined a game and went afk right away. Well , happens.

After some time Rober [NL] encountered the still afk killerlars, and - unlike me - had no scruple in killing an afk player. Maybe he hadn't noticed that killerlars was afk since he had joined, so I thought to myself that he would now stop killing him since he must have realized that killerlars wasn't playing. I was right to some point: Rober [NL] actually had noticed that killerlars was afk, and so he kill ed him again. I nicely asked Rober [NL] to stop scoring cheap frags, but he went on fragging killerlars.

Before the game ended, two other players joined: jeroen and timo. Jeroen fragged killerlars once, but stopped doing it after I asked to leave an afk player alone (or he simply didn't find him anymore). And since I now had three opponents (Rober [NL], jeroen and timo) I grabbed the RL. This was a mistake; on my way to the RL I fragged jeroen, who was lucky to respawn next to the FRG on blue base.

Well, the game ended like this :
- I fragged Rober [NL] 23 times and jeroen twice
- jeron killed me, killerlars and timo (who didn't score at all and quit right before the game ended) once each
- timo didn't score at all but got fragged once before quitting
- -=UM=-Snake didn't score or die since he entered the game a split second before I scored my final frag
- and Rober [NL] achieved ALL his kills by killing afks only: 11 times the guy who left when I entered, and 6 times killerlars (who stayed afk the whole game)

You may be wondering why I said TWO games at the beginning of my post. Well, the next one was on Ice Fields, and -=UM=-Snake (who was the only real challenge) got tired of Rober [NL] and killerlars (who had returned after the previous game; jeroen quit during the Postgame Carnage Report of the HeH game) still relying solely on the FRG or running over with hogs, so he quit. And being stuck only with two << insert pejorative term for unskilled gamers, starting with the letter 'N' >> isn't fun so I quit as well, even though I was leading the game with 19 frags.

So, what is the morale of all of this? Simple: I'm not that good at all at playing Halo, but at least I try; I restrain from using the two most << insert pejorative term for unskilled gamers, starting with the letter 'N' >>-ish weapons there are: FRG and flamethrower. Instead I try to get better with all the other weapons, and this match showed me that I'm right in doing so.

EDIT: The intention of my post is NOT to put any player down. I simply used the names for better readability, since refering to "this player", "the other player", "the first player again" is simply confusing.

Just out of interested which lingual version of Halo is that? i.e. from what country are you? I thought it's odd that the word 'Showdown' appears at the bottom of the scoreboard, which seems like an English term but it appears nowhere in the English version of Halo. It's called 'Slayer' in our version. Also thought it quite funny that 'Ping' is the only common term on the scoreboard. Ping is an awesome word.

German version ... and I hate it. The announcer at the beginning says "Showdown" and it sounds like Michael Jackson with sniffles.....

was ist "erblaut"? Ich bin auslander und sprechen nicht gut deutsch :P

well, i hope i spelled all those right. and i didnt even know there were different languages in Halo, but i'm guessing that it is actually a different version and not just a language option?

(back to your story) ..................... I'm sorry. And why did you even stay? I would've just left after I was skooling the first guy (pardon the terminology, but you know what i mean).

"Erblaut" (with an 'L') means as much as "having turned blue". Don't ask me if there's a deeper sence in this. ;-)
"Erbaut" (without an 'L') has two different meanings: 1) "erbaut" = 'built', like a building or something; 2) "erbaut" = 'sadisfied'

And it's actually a german game version. There is no option in the game to switch to another language, otherwise I would have switched to english long ago.

And why did I stay? Because I wanted to play either slayer or team slayer, and not another CTF game. Unfortunately that server was the only one with (team) slayer and an acceptable ping. I stayed hoping that other people would join, since odds are better that people join a server where others already are playing, than joining an empty server.

Because that's the game version sold in Austria, where german is the official national language. :-)

Anyway, my point is: why are people "n00bing around"? If that Rober [NL] guy would have use the pistol along with nades to fight me, he would definitly have scored a few frags against me. At least at throwing nades he was quite good, and he almost killed me a few times, leaving me w/o shield and a red health bar. One or two hits with the pistol would have killed me, and would have removed me from the strategically advantageous position on top of blue base. But instead he tried to get the RL or flame thrower, which is plain suicide if someone is holding blue base and has no other target than that one guy. And once he realized that his strategy of "get a strong weapon and make your way to blue base" didn't work, he switched to killing the afk killerlars. From that point on he didn't even try to fight me anymore, saving his nades and ammo solely for killerlars.

Heyyo,

Yes, the lack of skill in HaloPC players is sometimes upsetting. I wish some people would just learn to use the good weapons and not be such idiotic cheap weapon whores... I bet that NL guy even ran inna straight line all the time eh?

He probably diddn't read what you said aboot killing the afk guy cause he's very unskilled. Since most of the players on HaloPC are unskilled, text messages seem to be next to invisible to them... I pray that Halo2 isin't the same....

Nowadays? levels like Ice Fields is just pointless to play since people think that the game instantly becomes "capture & hold the bridge with the rl and FRG." I usually like to try n' run a hog through the bottom, cap the enemy flag, defend my base (or as the really dumb enemy players say "camping on my base"... defending with a pistol n' shotty isin't cheap ya freak..) and put out text messages saying "My team won since the enemy's too foolish to even bother to cap flags." and then the match ends, my team wins, enemy says "no we win, look at our kils" and I say "go play slayer if ya think kills matter that much buddy.."

Sometimes I wish they diddn't put normal CTF in HaloPC, and just stuff like Assault cause on that at least there's some teamwork...

wtf mard? idiot.

well i also hate absent minded people who just stand in one place. i just use them to practive cruel and unusual ways to kill them. just a few days ago i was playing a great ctf with 12 or so other peole, laggy but really fun. i swear there were bodies all over. *he he, rockets and indestructible vehicles :þ* but anywase if you pass an afk just smack him in the back of the head, or if youre alone with him just stare st him, its funny when come out of afk, especialy when you have stickies, a shotgun, and/or a flamethrower.

oh mard, people do play ctf properly, just find a popular game that always has people in it, those are the good ones.

Wasn't that hard to guess, huh? ;-) Reminds me of a << insert pejorative term for unskilled gamers, starting with the letter 'N' >> tried to snipe me, and said "stop strafing u cheata". No joke.

But there's something else that pisses me off and already was mentioned: people confusing CTF with slayer.

The worst I had ever happen to me was an 8 vs 8 CTF game on Danger Canyon. I arrive at the enemy base via the tunnels, spotting one of my teammates on top of the tunnel entrance (inside), armed with a FRG. I grabbed the flag and went back into the tunnel, since there was a teammate who could cover my retreat. I entered the tunnel and got TK'd by him. First I thought it was an accident, so I immediately typed "get the flag and run". But his reply was "stop scoring I wanna kill"!!! O_o

My opinion on such idiots is that they are nothing but cannon fodder in (team) slayer games. And unsurprisingly, many of them have proven me right.

Heyyo,

Err boo? I don't see how me posting the truth makes me a 'idiot'.

I do remember when halo first started, that was fun, cause no one even knew the fuelrodgun existed, and people tended to travle in packs in hogs, and everyone still thought the ar was the best gun in the game (even me! hehehe!)... oh those were the days HaloPC was huge...

People diss Painkiller cause it diddn't have CTF, I say good for them. They took out a monotnous gamemode that no one really plays properly in most games. The true days of CTF were with Quake3Arena, that pwned. I do wish Painkiller had coop though, cause it's pretty much serious sam inna different setting...

yes, there are some servers that actually do the game modes properly. Usually you need to jump into a clan server with higher pings... but I guess sometimes you just have to worry aboot latency to have a fun team-based game.

One thing I wished that worked for people afk was the bug where if you naded yourself I'd say they tked you if you make yourself explode. I used to try n' plant stickeys on afk's and then get them to explode me which in theory should say they tked me, but I guess they have to actually attack you with their gun first for this to work...

Sometimes I really don't understand afks. I mean, yeah, I have to go afk to for a minute or so, but not for a whole game. When I'm playing and I know I have to do something else for more than a minute, I simply log out. I've witnessed people who join a game and immediately go afk for half an hour, then they leave all of a sudden. Hello? Did I miss something?

From time to time I really wonder if someone is using his spare machine to log onto the same server to have an "afk dummy" in his opposing team, to make the game easier for him. That sounds paranoid, but sometimes I really can't help myself.

Didn't they sell English Versions? I live in the German part of Switzerland, and I got an English one.

I hate when they translate Games, it just doesn't sound as good anymore. I'd just order the games from the UK over Amazon. You usually can't get them from the US, they don't ship games overseas, which really sucks.

Oh, and I don't look at the Flamethrower as "n00wbish" it's really cool to engulf your enemies with flames :-) You just have to know when to use it. (Like when your in the side seat of a hog, then it really rules.)

Heyyo,

Yeah, the flamethrower's a nice gun... but the damage is really random, it sucks cause of that. Sometimes fully engulfing someone with flames barely hurts them, whille 1 small spurt leaves them with only 3 health points... in the passenger seat? yeah, nothing beats the flamethrower, cause the other guns are next to impossible cause the hog always bounces around.

You ever got toasted by your passenger while driving a hog? Not funny. Seriously, it's not funny.

Today was a funny day since I got called "frg n00b" myself. I just took out the guy who was about to pick the FRG up on BG, as two enemy hogs closed in on me. I grabbed the gun myself and nuked both hogs who had already opened fire - one LAAV, one LRV; and yes, it was a killtacular. >:)

As the smoke settled one of the dudes called me "f**king frg n00b". Well, what should I have done instead? Melee the hogs?

Heyyo,

Meh, you don't whore to the gun, you're ok in my books. :)

just the poeple who rely onnit to score kills are the lam0rz. Attacking a base is no excuse to use one, that makes your attack seem unskilled. I've pwned bases with a shotty. It's not hard, just blast em' in the face, and they die almost instantly. Teh pwnt. ;)

In HaloSE, they're gonna make the fuelrod do only small amounts of damage, before thye were gonna remove it entirely, so we'll have to wait n' see what they plan now. Cause yeah, fuel rod= st00pid.
