i hate the ragdoll idea but it did the same animation when you hit the ground hard enough to kill you so it would be cool if it only did ragdoll when you fall to your death.

I dislike the idea of ragdoll. Some weird stuff can happen with ragdoll physics (hitman for example) I like the old scripted deaths like in Halo

Through war we will teach your heresy.
Through battle we will teach your frailty.
Through death we will teach your fate.

I liked the mix of scripted and real-time physics in Halo, why wouldn't they stick with that?

Rag-doll is not Bungie's style.

I think they've got something entirely different and innovative up their sleeve...

if developers took time to implement bone and ligament restrictions to rag-doll physics i think they could work alot better. with the original halo, the one thing i never liked about death animations was when a grenade would go off, the covies, master chief, whatever, would fly through the air flailing their arms. it looked cool sometimes, but when you get nailed by a frag, your flying through the air because your dead, you dont spin your arms like wind mills. this was one thing that i was really hoping they would change for 2. but as you can see from the demos, they havent. also when you throw a grenade next to a dead body on the ground, when it blows up and the body flys into the air, it comes back to life and flails its arms again, it should be limp. regardless, i think we may see some rag-doll implemented by the time halo 2 is released.

also halo was one of the first games that had dead bodies conforming to the ground that was beneath them.[sometimes to crazy effects] this was really new for the time though, im sure bungie has some crazy stuff cooking.
