I have noticed that M C's torch light moves as if it were attached to his gun but it is most obviously attached to his head. (and no he doesn't move his head in the same direction as his gun e.g. reloading + hitting)(this post applies to the game)

Observant.

A retort: Does anyone know what the small tube is protruding from the AR handle below where the end of the barrel is? I personally thought it was *gasp* a flashlight, but there is indeed one on his helmet, near the Cortana slot.

Very interesting, 1/2 lemming-man.

I always noticed that... but I never cared too much...

Seeing how the light swinged when I reloaded in the dark made a bunch of my friends jaw-drop back then in early 2002...

To reply, and correct me if I'm wrong here, but the MC does have a light on his helmet, but sometimes the guns have them too. The way I understood it is that he uses his helmet light when there's none on the gun.

With B.B. gone, the passion of Bungie.net has lessened.

Picky, indeed... no offense, of course.

The Chief does use the light on his helmet at all times, but it moves where his gun points, as if its located on the gun. I think that this may be a simple mistake made by Bungie (a mistake that doesn't matter). If its intentional, then the light on his helmet is free to move up, down, and side to side, pointing where the barrel of the gun points.

The small tubes on the bottoms of the AR and the shotgun are flashlights. You can see them in-use in the level, 343 Guilty Spark... towards the end when you find the Marines.

the unsc doesnt make guns just for spartans. other marine dont have flashlights on their heads. the master chief just uses the one on his head more(he should be able to use the one on the gun whan the one on his head burns out)

Mc has a nuclear battery on his back. And this is the year 255 something or other. i dont think bulbs go out easy unless overloaded or the battery itself fails. Which is unlikely otherwise MC wont be able to move and Dr Halsey and the other crew would be very careful and essuring that doesn't happen.Ever.
