There are 2 things that can fix this. This happened to my friend, before he got a 360, tried setting his regular xbox account on my 360. Parental controls banned the account. If it's possible, go back to your xbox original and check the message. It probably will say you're banned.
This'll almost defenitly be the problem if you have a child's account. AKA, your mom or dad set it up for you.
Go to your Xbox 360's DashBoard
go to the System Tab
Probably under Family Settings. Try to find a setting that says like, access to xbox live. I only did this once, so I'm not exactly sure, but it saved my friend 50 bucks of a new account. If I'm talking complete nonsense, then disregard this message.
