OK, just wanted a quick idea of everyones favorite or funniest insanity effects they experienced in this amazing game.

I think the funniest is the "Thank you for playing this Demo" screen.
Scariest, Bathtub.

Or the memory card thing. I broke the GameCube when that one showed up, trying to yank the memory cards out. GameCube fell off the shelf. It now plays even with the disc door open.

I've heard about this game a while ago and wanted to try it out, but I never got around to it. I'll go rent it as soon as I get paid.

Is that game only on GC? Or is it Xbox, also? I've been wanting to play it for a while.

Its a GC only. And I've been wanting to check it out as well. A friend of mine played it and said it was freaky as hell.

It's for GC only, Nintendo produced it. But the GameCube is like $100 with a game now, and you can grab Eternal Darkness for about $25. I recommend the GameCube, simply for some awesome ass games, such as the Resident Evil series, Viewtiful Joe, Pikmin, and yes, I even play Animal Crossing ( It's motherf - uh, blamming, addictive!)

And of course, Super Smash Brothers Melee. I can think of worse things to spend $100 on. And I think you get Metroid Prime with it right now, with a Demo of Prime 2.

I just realized, If you haven't played this, don't read the thread.

Damn me and my non-thought out ideas.

The bathtub -blam!- rocked.

Funniest thing, though, is when your head falls off. If you pick it up, your character recites shakespear.

I considered sending a cleaning bill to Nintendo after that one, there were no less than 3 sodas and a plate of buffalo wings thrown across my living room the first time that happened.
Oddly enough, my daughter laughed at it. She's 3 years old, and apparently inhabited by Satan, to laugh at such a thing.

Okay, so since it's for GC I'm probably not gonna play it, because I don't have the facilities to get one.

That being said, and considering that there are now spoiler tags on the title, what happens with "The bathtub?" I'm very curious now.

Not a chance -- I will not sully that scene by ruining the integrity of it. You must find a way to rent/borrow/buy the game and a GameCube. Besides, telling it in NO way could do it justice.

Dang.

How far into the game is it? I can only play for 2-3 hours a day, max, and I don't even know if I can get a 'Cube to borrow. I can try, though.

Edit: Given a 5-day rental.

The pictures in the mansion were pretty cool and the book it self was awsome. On a side note I once played a whole D&D campaing that revoled very closely to that game.... it was awsome....

This wasn't an insanity effect, rather, it was in a cutscene, but it was hilarious.

Anyone remember this like?

"You lied to me, and, you really don't look that good anymore..."

Oh. Yeah... haha.

We all have to remember that if it doesn't begin with "Time," and end in Splitters," this guy doesn't know it.

I heard that the memory card thing had quite a few people pissed.

yeah the memory card trick was a good one, but I think my fav. was the fly on the screen. It only happened once that I can remember, but I'll damned if I didnt spend a few minutes smacking my TV with a magazine

I like the part in the piano room where the guy was being hung and swaying back and forth. It was creepy as hell. Walking in the room and nearing the noise of the rope, but not being able to see what it is until you walk farther was sweet.

Probably referencing the Nightmare Before Christmas

Jack: And since I am, dead, I can take off my head. To recite Shakespearian quotations.

Eternal Darkness on GameCube was a great game. Man, those sanity effects were creepy! The false ending (Halo 2 premonitions?), blurred vision, and (oh God), message about the game wiping your memory card saves (that was demonic)...man, that game was awesome! I hope they make a sequel.

Yeah, That is probably my favorite horror game ever. I once stayed for up fo 30 hours straight and then I found the bathtub scene. It scared the crap out of me worse then most. I followed with a "HOLY -blam!-!" and my mom came in wondering what happened. I told her (feeling really stupid) and she laughed really hard. Ahh memories. Another thing that would mess with me is when the character would freak out for no reason or start muttering stuff.

They did a good job with it too, they made it so it's a small fly, and it looks like it could be an actual fly on up to a 56" screen, and down to a 19".

It looks almost like a horsefly if it's larger than 42" screen though.

I'll admit that I never finished Eternal Darkness. It got to this point where I had to keep my sanity bar all the way at the bottom just to enjoy myself. And then that retarded vampire just killed my interest in completing the game.

I did enjoy the concept though, that the more encounters you have, the more you lose your sanity. And you don't even realize some of the subtle changes until you recover the sanity meter, stuff like the camera going askew, and the number of monsters you have to fight decreasing.

The walls bleeding were a fairly strong indicator, though. ;)

As for the bathtub scene, it was practically out of place; the rest of the game was about creeping suspense, and it was a rather vicious jolt to the system. I approve.

You should go back and finish it Shishka, the Vampire isn't too bad, unless you miss with the elephant gun, then you're temporarily screwed. And that's the shortest chapter in the game. If you got past the Guardian of whichever essence your playing, the vampire should be NO problem afterward.

And after that, you can't help but discover some of the insanity effects. Especially when you play as Michael. Boy ain't too bright. Since I don't have access to XBox Live, I picked it up again the other day, and I've done red and green, and I'm currently working on blue.

The creeping suspense thing is what hooked me I think, but the bathtub wasn't what got me jumped first, it was the first time I tried to heal myself when I was nutty, and my head exploded.

I heard a rumor that once I get the last alignment completed, I unlock "Eternal" which should let me play with unlimited health and magic, should be good for further exploration, considering I tend to run past some monsters if I don't think I can waste the resources to fight.

Tell me though, when you first shot that Elephant gun, did you laugh your ass off like I did?
