can you give me the answer and working out of this promblem please???

4x + 4yx =???

Are there any givens? It is impossible to solve this equation without knowing what it equals. The best you can do is simplify:

To solve for x:
4x + 4yx = ??; factor out 4x:
4x*(y+1) = ??; then you can divide both sides by 4*(y+1) to get:
x = ??/(4*(y+1)).

To solve for y:
4x*(y+1)=??; divide both sides by 4x:
y+1=??/(4x); subtract 1 from both sides:
y=(??/(4x)) - 1

That is all I can do without knowing ?? or x or y.

EDIT: Actually, there should be two equations, and both should equal something other than ?? (an actual number would help). Then you simultaneously solve for both equations to get x and y.

I'd agree. Seriously, without knowing anything but that, you can only simplify.

What a helpful place this is.

The Flood and the Underground are the two most helpful forums. We're not usually flamers or spammers. I haven't been to the Septagon in a while...

Some nice guys in The Septagon taught me how to lazy link in about 30 seconds.

And to the original poster: I just got done editing all these math tests for a private school, so I feel your math pain. Keep it up though. You won't believe how helpful this math stuff is - it teaches you how to think and keeps your brain sharp.

4x + 4yx = 0

move 4yx to the other side by subtracting it from each side

4x = -4yx

devide each side by x

4 = -4y

devide each side by -4

-1 = y

You assumed it equaled 0 the original equation never stated that.

Yup i assumed some things, In most classes this basic I thought it was assumed when solving for x or y that the equation = 0

also I was doing it to the best of my abilities, just trying to help.
