My friend, you would not tell with ſuch high zeſt

The old Lie: Dulce et decorum eſt
Pro patria mori.

Yeah, you're right that killing Hitler wouldn't have done much; the socio-economic strains that eventually led to the second of Europe's 20th century civil wars were in place pretty much straight after the Treaty of Versailles was signed.

I think I'd kill Lenin. Lenin's leadership allowed the Bolsheviks to assume power in the Russian, and to destroy the opposing monarchists and social-democrats. That led to Russia's early withdrawal from the Great War. Had Russia been a bastion of liberal constitutionalism, the threat of German remilitarisation would have been curbed significantly.

Also, we get the static benefits of Stalin never coming to power.

I'd kill the guy who assasinated Archduke Franz Ferdinand before the assasination took place. Then, WW1 never would've happened, the Treaty of Versailles never would've occured, and Hitler would've never had a reason to come to power.

Also, Russia might not have had any reason to revolt, either.

But, tagging Micheal Moore is also very tempting and probably just as good for the world...

Nah, the guy who killed Franz Ferdinand would be a better choice. Moore is gonna die of a heart attack in a few years anyways.

Bungie.net is the only website that has been able to hold my interest for such a long period of time, and I can only imagine there are still many years to come.

But then, even your scenario could be paradoxical. If you went back to kill Hitler, then the -blam!-s wouldn't have come to power, and then you would never feel the need to kill Hitler, and so you wouldn't go back in time to kill Hitler, and then the -blam!-s would come to power....

Since backwards time travel in the conventional sense (ie, to change one's own history) is theoretically impossible, anyway, I think worrying about paradoxes in time travel hypotheticals is pointless in any case.

- Reiginko

Also that means no WWII and that means that there would only be WWI..... OMG

...Which, technically, means that there wouldn't have even been a WW1. It woulda been called "The Great War."

The guy that suggested killing Gavrilo Pricep (guy that shot Franz Ferdinand, I think), clearly doesnt know about the other pressures that were present at the time, such as militarism, imperialism, and an arms race. The First World War was almost inevitable by 1914. It was just sparked off by the whole assaination, though preventing that would have changed when, and possibly how, and therefore the results, of the Great/First World War, though there was almost certainly going to be a war between all the European Great Powers Basically we were pissing each other off so much.

You would hav to assainate someone that could be blamed for causing all the pressures that led to the war, but I am fairly sure that would be almost impossible.

You are all missing one important point. If WW1 and more importantly WW2 had not happened then computer's would not have been developed when then were and we would not be as technologically advanced as we are now.

No WWII=No comps, no jets, no nukes, no H-bombs, no breaking of the sound barrier, no space program, no Isreal. Alot of good things came from the horror or WWII. War truly is hell, but it brings technological leaps.

100,000,000 lives saved or the computer?

Cant choose.

Only joking. If there had been no world wars we dont know what the world would be like now. We might have absolutionist Monarchies, America may still be a powerful but second rate power, and we may not have yet discovered penicillin. Or we may have somehow actually advanced more quickly, and already have eliminated world hunger, disease etc. We simply dont know.

You mean the Spanish who murdered and wiped out civilisation through use of superior technology and germ warfare (however unintentional) and then forced conversion to catholicism upon the survivors... then yes.

Why do people in ship mutinies always ask for "better treatment"? I'd ask for a pinball machine, because with all that rocking back and forth, you'd get a lot of free games.

Maybe in order to understand mankind, we have to look at the word itself: "Mankind". Basically, it's made up of two separate words - "mank" and "ind". What do these words mean? It's a mystery, and that's why so is mankind.

We’ve watched while the stars burned
Out, and creation played in reverse.
The Universe freezing in half-light.
Once I thought to escape.
To end a master, step out of the
Path of collapse. Escape would make us God.
Yet I cannot help but remember one enigma,
A hybrid, elusive destroyer.
This is the one mystery I have not solved.
The only element unaccounted for.

It's a shame that political discussions aren't allowed.

I would probably kill some sort of rapist or paedophile. Not that anyone deserves to die (the right to life?), but if I had to...

Click the Black Chapter link in my sig if you want to discuss politics.

Ah, but the Spaniards at least made an attempt to allow indians to live with them. Other invading nations simply enslaved them or kicked them out.

Now this is most definitely against the rules. You likely just got the thread locked after Reginko allowed it to stay open, or got yourselves banned.
