When Halo2 releases, the number of Xbox Live users is expected to tripple. That being said, should it have a Ranking System? Take games like Counter-Strike, and R63. The guys who are at the top of the scoreboards play the game so much, it's almost to the point where they have no lives. And when you meet these types of people in-game, it's pretty intimidating cause you know you're gonna get your ass kicked.

It think it should have a ranking system, but no leaderboards. Have it like Crimson Skies where you start at a certain level and progress to the highest point. (Begin at 1, and progress to a level 5 for example.) Because if there are leader boards, people will always know the guy in first place's name, and no one will want to play with him. This way, it takes away from the stat-gaining, and makes the game more about fun. Just a thought. What do YOU think?

I say just go with a Kill : Death ratio.

I think their should be a ranking system. In CounterStrike, I always set goals to pass, say... rank 8000 (which I am rank 8500 of about 58,500, which isn't that bad) If no one want's to be on the ranking system, you should be able to join games that don't post statistics or do post statistics. Simple as that.

i think there should be leader boards just because u can see how good u are against other people but the should split it between like the top 50 of each game type like ctf, oddball, slayer and things like that

That makes me want to play against him even more!

Have it like Crimson Skies where you start at a certain level and progress to the highest point.
They could have both!

I'd rather play WITH the guys that are better than me instead of avoid them. I'd want to avoid the people ranked really low, not the ones ranked really high

I don't care about an online ranking system cause I dont play online, but I tend to think that classing people will seperate them, a good player will not want to play with crappy opponents, but then how are the noobs suppose to learn?

I reckon there should be some sort of stats you can look at after MP games. Alot more than there is now anyway eg. favourite weapon

Or at least a kill counter on the HUD in single player (like WH40k Kharn the Betrayer has)

The system will still be abused and horribly.

People will get good and newer people won't want to play with them or the system will be exploited and ruined. One such way is to get two of your own Xboxes and two accounts and just beat the -blam!- out of one profile you don't care for constantly and get your rank up. The other is you'll get high in rank, delete your profile and start all over as a level 1. New people will play you, get beat, and then go on a bit distraught from being owned terribly.

There are other ways, but it would not be a good idea to have the system. I can jsut see too much exploitation like I have many games before.

Ranking system are great, but they usually inspire cheating.... caugh, caugh, Splinter, caugh, Cell PT......

I trust that Bungie will have the foresight to prevent the kind of crap that goes on in most online games. If not, atleast the campaign mode will be good enough to play through more than once, or a thousand times.

I play with n00bs to help them get on their feet to face bigger players, that's it. I prefer a challenge against what you'd call a l337 player.

And don't call us n00bs again. Or the ninjas will be sent to kill you. (Read the rules, you'll see)

Here, I think, like mechassault, they should have stats and leaderboards, but reset them every month or so so its not like the person who plays the most and gets the most total kills is always at the top, they have to prove themselves time and time again. And as wellt hey should have it like in a points system, when you kill a noob(no offense to anyone everyones g2 start somewhere) then you will get less points based on their point rank. But when yu kill a Grizzled Vereran(lol) then you get lots and lots of points so otherwise ppl will stop picking on new people and sometimes try to slay the beast!

And? ...

Who gives a -blam!-? Lamers will always try and take advantage of the system. I honestly don't care. My ranking will be "legit", and that's all that matters.

I say keep the ranking system. but ignore it. It will be abused by someone, somehow. On the other hand people who actually are that good get the fame. When ever you see someones score just cross your fingers and hope they were cheating the system.... a lot....

I think there should just be statistics, no ranking, but games are marked for certain levels, beginner, intermediate, expert, or something of that sort.

If anything, they should scrap the current carnage report. In a two team game, there should only be "two" rankings.. Winners.. And losers.
