Mr C, I have been reading and enjoying your Fanfiction for some time now. I appreciate the attention to detail and depth in your story. I realize you perhaps do not get the credit that is due on a public, non-literature based site such as this, so props!

A few things that I don't consider expanding on the forerunner mystery, simply identifying key statements:

1. "It would seem the Reclaimers have indeed been chosen and harvested," the Forerunner said as it gazed at Kelly, incased within the MJOLNIR armor. " Interesting. This suggests that the creation of the Spartans was inevitable.

2. "We spared you humans so that you would carry on the task we left within your ancestors. The sacrifices we made so that you would live were great, and it would pain me greatly to learn that humanity had betrayed us." - Several questions stem from this alone!

I loved this line : "Sitting stiffly in one of the elaborately designed chairs inside the Forerunner vessel, the Prophet of Truth felt bile rise in the back of his throat..."

3. Here's a biggy: "Shortly after he was certain you Forerunner no longer hunted for him" + "The Forerunner created Law in an experiment with the Flood, and as such we age at an incredibly slow state and without the need to feed on other species like the Flood."
- Let me re-iterate a portion of this last sentence. "without the need to feed on other species like the Flood." What in the... (left blank until the next chapter)

"The sustenance from your slaves has given me more than enough time to last the journey, but I assure you, since they were not harvested, I will begin to crave again before we arrive."

Sounds like the Prophets are a walking-talking snack. I wonder if they taste like chicken?

I really enjoyed the chapter, but there is a small question I have. You wrote that the forerunner said there was a reclaimer and a human, suggesting that the reclaimer has to be a spartan, but in the book The Flood, a normal human was a reclaimer before MC; he was a soldier, but a regular human. So are you suggesting that the spartans are the reclaimers, or the human soldiers are? Also, Bungie forums got the shaft because I saw this chapter on FanFic.net yesterday, but I don't mind, I got the chapter a day early.

I don't think he meant that only Spartans could be reclaimers, but rather that people in Mark V/Mark VI suits were designed to be them.

Anyways, great chapter as always Mr. C. You seriously freaking rule. =)

Hey Mr Clark, didn't you say that there would be a section in Chapter 20 about the Lewis Puller leaving Earth? What happened to it, anyway?

P.S. Great chapter. I already got a theory on the Flood/Forerunner thing, but I won't say it here. Per your wishes.

I pushed it into Chapter 21, mainly because it would have ended up smack dab in the middle of the chapter and seemed out of place, because its a one-time scene and it'd break the flow. With the Halsey/Kelly scenes there was continuity, and I ended with the Truth/Forerunner scene to give it a cliffhanger-esque feel.

Plus after some thought it does make a little more sense for it to be in Chapter 21, because its the big 'setting up' chapter. If I had kept it in Chapter 20 we would have never seen the likes of Keyes/Johnson/Jan for all of Chapter 21, which would have made the specific scene I have planned in Chapter 22 not as impactful as I would have liked.

Unfortunately my powers as they are seem to be insufficient in granting your request. I cannot black list you, and I really can't understand why you might inquire upon me to do so.

I've started writing the actual chapter now, overview and such is complete.

Hope you guys like futuristic history lessons.....

Also, someone asked me what my favorite part of Chapter 20 was.

I would have to say it was the line Elder Forsun said after the Arbiter (Aonlum) did his big recant on what happened at Delta Halo and Earth. His:

"You are the Arbiter of the Covenant...not the Sangheili!"

That's the one. I was snarling that line at random people the moment I thought of it, trying to get the right phrasing to put it in. I got a lot of strange looks from people those days....

Thanks a lot clark. Beautiful chapter once again

Certainly an interesting chapter. I won't say anything about my theories, but I think there is more of a connection between the Flood and the Forerunner, than what might be thought. Anyways, I assume we will see Chapter 21 next weekend (the 10-11 of September)? Take your time and craft your art.

I think it refered to only refered to the spartan as a reclaimer because reclaimers have to be battle ready, the marine obviously had a gun and was a soilder capable of deffending himself and the same goes double for the master cheif and miranda keyes all had combat training and could fight there way to the index and reclaim it. unlike dr. halsey who in fact cannot even really fire a gun.

Chapter 21 Information Below

Just thought I'd give you all a little update.

Surprisingly I actually followed through with my promise about starting Chapter 21 as soon as possible. Its almost halfway done I think, and I'm starting to believe I just might be able to finish it up come next weekend. That'll be a record I think. Well, for me at least...

For those interested, the title of Chapter 21 has been decided to be:

Abandoning Home

People will obviously draw the conclusion that it refers to the crew aboard the Lewis Puller, but you never know right?

This'll be a big chapter. I have officially dubbed it the 'setting up' chapter. Chapter 22 is going to be the kind of chapter all you action junkies have been waiting for. Space battles, ground combat, foul language...its all in there. Or at least will be when I write it.

I was surprised that no one seemed to wonder about the war that Halsey mentioned when speaking with the Forerunner A.I. I figured it would peak your guy's interest, but I suppose I snuck it in there with enough subtlety to make you overlook it.

Anyways, my projected outlook for right now says that there is a 50-50 chance of Chapter 21 being released come next weekend.

He watches every Hodgetwin video they put up...on ALL their channels. He calls them the Hodge Triplets, and considers himself the 3rd triplet. He's started talking and acting like them now. Every other line out of his mouth "Thaaas some BULLLLLL**** maaayne" or "Gotta make dem gainzzzz". He calls his biceps "gains". When he eats post-workout, he talks to his biceps, "Don't worry gains, I'm feeding you. Daddys gonna feed you, gainz *kisses biceps*".

Holy cow! AWESOME!!!!!!!

I caught the part about the war... but I always assumed that there was a war since that comment around chapter 18 or 19 about Truth remembering the Prophet's homeworld with corpses strewn all over it.

I know Mr. Clark asked us not to go too crazy when theorizing about the Forerunner, so I'll keep my theory under my hat for now. It probably wouldn't be fair either since I am privy to a fair bit more information than the usual forum-goer.

Anyways, all I'll say is, take a look at Halsey's and the Prophet of Truth's reactions to each Forerunner's appearence. Notice anything?

Hmmm, Konoka Chan. I've done a bit of digging for all of y'all and here's what I got:

Halsey's encounter with Forerunner is one of fear and shock.

"This installation was developed to study the dormant habits of the Flood, and to see if a biological agent could be developed that would negate said ability."

A chill passed through Dr. Halsey when she realized that the voice did not belong to Kelly or the monitor, and she spun around sharply, surprise etched across her face as she stared blatantly at the figure situated in the center of the room.

Truth is downright scared -blam!-less.

“As you command,” the Captain said, bowing low. He turned to inform the other Covenant members of the order when he stopped. Something stood upon the far sand dune on the horizon. He turned to point it out to the Prophet of Truth, but Truth had already seen it, and his body had frozen.

It cannot be, how did they find us so fast?

Shrouded in robes that were thick and flowing, a lone creature stood on the far horizon, staring at the assembled Covenant members with curiosity.

The Jiralhanae Captain looked back at the creature in confusion, and then turned to the Prophet of Truth.

“Your eminence, what is that creature?” he asked.

“That,” Truth said, his voice dry and cracked. He cleared his throat, his eyes never leaving the figure that stood, watching them.

“That is a Forerunner.”

I'm not sure what to make of it...

That's a good point. So they're scared by it, but not overly suprised.
