Well heres my theory on the whole thing.
The forerunner with the prophet of truth is a half breed, they feed on flood to survive, (perhaps they created the flood?) they can feed on others but it works better if they have been turned into flood 1st. Therefore, they have regenerative powers of some kind making them uber-hard to kill.
Oh and John will die at the end. The whole john/cyriacus guy will go round the universe, kickin a$$ and takin names, win the war and then John will die just like fasul said he would.
Maybe?

In regards to what the Half-Breeds actually are, or how they came to be, remember that line of Fasul's when he explains what happened when the Majal first studied the Flood. The discovery of the Flood's regenative abilities is what led to the downfall of the Majal/Forerunner. Hmmm, wonder what he meant by that right?

Konoka_Chan

...But Fasul says in chapter 22 he isn’t Forunner, so your use of "Majal/ Forunner" should be wrong although it probably isn’t cause you know Mr Clark personally so probably know a lot more than us,

I’m sticking with my theory that the half-breeds are -half flood/ half Majal-, because in trying to make themselves live for ever (like the flood) they created there own demise. That demise being the half-breeds which war'd against them chasing them from planet to planet killing the Majal one by one, with the help of the flood which they now controlled so (covered in chapter 22),

With this revelation; I take back my assumption that Gravemind isn’t the half breed and succeed that he very may well be the half-breed of which they talk, as he basically controls the flood. I just don’t think it’s that likely though because he doesn’t look very half breed to me he looks more like a messed-up amalgamation of flood,

And now returning to my previous decision; that the 'Forunner' hanging out with the prophet of Truth is a half-breed who has been awoken from his slumber, or it could be a Majal that some how magically and un-explainably survived, which makes no sense at all to the story and therefore just ain’t cool and would cause the need for a plot filler to explain how he magically survived and again would be un-cool.

;Or... I could be completly and horribly wrong and it turns out gravemind is the half-breed, Fasul is a Majal (undoubtable, already been said) and the thing hanging out with the prophet of truth is actually a Foruner. I hope im not wrong...

Sorry, makaveili, I misspoke. What I meant was, both the Majal and the Forerunner didn't necessarily 'win' whatever war occurred between them, or at least we can assume as much, because both seem to be pretty nonexistent in the universe at the present time in the story. That ones my bad.

As for Gravemind, I'm really curious as to what he might actually be. If we go on the assumption that the Half-Breed is whatever the hell is with the prophet of truth, then Gravemind might not be a Half-Breed because his appearence doesn't particularily match. Or perhaps he's actually a weapon used by the Half-Breeds, as from one of Cyriacus' memories, we can conclude that the Half-Breeds had at least some base control over the Flood. Or maybe he was created by the Majal, as some kind of weapon to use against the Half-Breed. Turning the Flood against them maybe? I'm not sure, but I'm betting he's important.

There was one other thing that bugged me about the last chapter. Anybody remember this line of Fasul's?

“I apologize for the loss of your friend,” Fasul said, his tone conveying a true sense of remorse. “This was necessary however. Cyriacus possessed strength of which I had never seen before. He was the only Reclaimer ever to have killed a Half Breed in ground combat.”

We just saw Cyriacus decimate, a Forerunner ship, and an entire battallion of Covenant ground forces.

From the way Fasul is talking, it sounds like he's saying Cyriacus only ever managed to kill ONE of the Half-Breeds, throughout the war. Exactly how powerful are the Half-Breeds?

Congratulations Mr_Clark. You've created a reasonably good fanfic and managed to get it to shoot itself in the head in a single chapter. *claps*

If this is right and that he did only kill one not... he was the only one able to kill them and he actually killed many of them. Then I would have to come to the conclusion that, either Gravemind is a half-breed -due to his regenerative capabilities- when fighting against Johnson he was un-killable; or,

This half-breed has the same regenerative capabilities as Gravemind along with his lightning fast, Cyriacus-masterchiefesq, killing abilities. This would work as the thought that he has only ever beaten one, it has the same speed as new master chief but bodily regeneration aswell, incredibly hard to kill and would explain there inability to die without some super punishment.

And now for DaViEsW,

‘reasonably good’, I scoff at that untruth… AS for it managed to shoot its self in the head, I fail to breath at that untruth… at least try to explain your inane comments. I failed to notice where this fan-fic in a single chapter managed to possibly ‘shoot itself in the head (kill itself)’. I sense your just one of those people that say the opposite of everyone else just to get a minute piece of attention… well here’s that attention you’ve been so striving for now begone from our sights.

Ah yes, the ignobily vain person who appears, throws out their "superior" opinion, and vanishes without giving but a single reason to what exactly could ever make them come to such a conclusion.

I was wondering when you migh make an appearence.

Now, since you've been so helpful in clearing up as to why this story has committed hari-kiri, we're left with only our own imaginations as to what the real reason could be.

Has this story simply developed too fast for you?

Maybe you have ADHD, and the length of the chapter proved too much for you and you were incapable of reading it in one cohersive run through, making it jumbled in your mind and thus created this seemingly irrelevent despisal.

Or perhaps you have an actual clear reason of which we can be understanding to your position. This seems less likely, because anyone with a real reason would of course be able to share it with the author, as this is the main reason one leaves feedback for a writer, to tell them they liked their story and why, or to critique them, giving them pointers and the like.

I suppose you decided giving some half-hearted attempt at a dry wit might impress us, and thus had to retreat before giving any real reasons.

Ah, I'm glad we're being somewhat nice still.

Just doing a little housekeeping today, and I escaped to hop online for the first time in awhile. Taking some time off has really been fun and relaxing.

Don't worry about some people not liking the story after this chapter, (though I myself would like to have a wee bit more elaboration than just, "I H8 UR G4Y StRy LOLOMG!!!one!!11"). I knew I'd alienate a lot of people with the changes, as I am quite obviously breaking free of the same old mold of Halo stories, something I've planned. Some people don't like change, so of course there's going to be some disappointed fans.

Though I'd say the response from last chapter is quite overwhelmingly positive, much to my surprise. I guess people were ready for a change after all.

Blasphamy!!!!!!!!

Our master, Mr. Clark, has enlightened us with his latest chapter and has further captured our hearts and minds with his words of wisdom, action, suspense and terror!! With a hint of sadness.

I love this story. I will drop everything to read the new chapters.

Excuse me Mr. Clark our master, but any word or hints on the next chapter?

"I hope nothing, I fear nothing, I am free"
"A person needs a little madness, or else they never dare cut the rope and be free." - Nikos Kazantzakis
"The ink of the scholar is more holy than the blood of martyrs" - Hasan al-Basri
Black Chapter, for all religious and political debate that doesn't fit in the Flood.

I appologise for sounding like a fan boy in advance...

Reasonably good? It is, in my opinion, the best fan fiction on bungie.net, and it probably is in most other peoples minds too. The author threw in a plot twist - master chief gains amazing power, but will die because of it... sure, it's a tad bit cliched, but not all cliches are bad, and a good author can pull off something like that, and, as many will agree, Mr Clark is a good author.

So unless you want to back up your reasoning, i suggest you don't post again on this thread for fear of getting attacking by an angry mob.

Have a nice day :)

Well, I haven't officially started work on it just yet, but its been rolling around in my head for the last couple of days.

I'm not sure what I'm going to do with the chapter. I want it to include probably the most pivital scene of the entire story, but I know that scene itself is going to be huge. And long... Probably almost twenty pages by itself. It could literally be a chapter all by itself.

The chapter will, I'm certain, at least answer some of those questions you've had tickling the back of your mind:

How could John be a descendant of Cyriacus, when it was stated that Chrysanthe and Laelia perished?

Why is Clark introducing such an important character so late in the story? What malevolence does his being preclude? Could he truly be so important?

Is John going to emerge from his stasis? What exactly is his current status?

Why was the Covenant formed? Why did the Prophets betray their creators?

Where does the Prophet of Law fit into everything? Is he truly the power holder in the Covenan?

The Prophet of Truth, and what appears to be a Forerunner are headed for Danrun, what is their goal? More importantly, is the Forerunner truly a Half-Breed? What exactly is a Half-Breed?

What is Kelly and Dr. Halsey's intention? Their mission that they have been trying to complete for so long? What exists on Danrun that is so important?

The Majal and the Forerunner, two separate entities? Or two of the same breed? Where does the Flood fit in, and Gravemind?

Those are just some of the questions that should, and mose likely will get answered come Chapter 23's release.

Ugh, I just looked over that list. *sob* I have way too much writing ahead of me.

i guess i'll hop on the bandwagon here. if Mr. Clark was to completely do a story that stayed tride and true to Halo Novels, or the halo story line, it wouldn't be a fan fic, it'd just be another compilation of ppl that have read the novels to many times and expect this to be the exact same. What Clark has done here is taken the Bungie story line, thrown it into a blender, added his own ideas and thoughts that make a good story, turned the blender on high, added some hershey's syrup (everyone loves hershy's syrup), and made us an phenomenal story that is vast and wonderful. I think it's great that he's actually sought to make the story his own instead of just stay within the lines of the stencil, granted you may not like his ideas, but to actually enjoy this story, you'd have to have an open mind that is subject to change from what is expected remain the same from the Halo novels. Clark's idea of the story is a wonderful one that is quite unique in the fact that it has taken all the characters we've come to love, added a few new faces, used a lot of backlog from old halo stories and created something that only he could come up w/. meh, my 2 cents

Quite fun. Crosswords are usually boring after awhile, but this thing has kept me revited for quite awhile.

Phoenix is dead, long live Phoenix!
Is it?

If you are talking about the Miniclip one on hardest about 7mins but I can do the ones in the New Zealand Herald in about 3-5mins.
I really hate having to switch numbers on the miniclip one.
Keep up the story we are all waiting at the edge of a cliff ready to jump at the first sign of the next chapter, (I really should say that there is a net and a laptop at the bottom of the cliif)
