i personally beleive that there are 300 MAC guns but they aren't all in one place. Although some are orbital cannons so they can fire anywhere, some are on earth (well connected to earth like cairo) and thus can not fire at targets if they are on the otherside of the globe. when the covenant attacked i would say that only about 75 could fire, seeing as the covenant would concentrate on bit rather than trying to take the entire planet at once. and i doubt all 300 could fire at once due to lack of power. well theres my opinion
I was just about to post almost the exact same idea, when I saw that you had done it. I had a really good point, but not having read the books in a while, I cannot remember if it is the truth or not. In fact the more I look it over, I have come to think that I was mistakin in this thought. However, I always thought that part of one of the Chiefs missions (Sigma Octanus, I believe) was to protect the generator of a planetary MAC gun. If I am correct in this, and please dont flame me if I am wrong, then you would have to assume that both types are present in the defense of earth, the most important planet for the humans. You can see other weapons platforms during the fight on Cairo Station. You can also se that there are not that many to be seen. This would lead to the thought that some of them must be on the ground. Also, I agree that they could not all be fored at the same time because of energy concerns. Unless, that is, the ones on earth were powered by geothermal energy while the ones in space are powered by sunlight. Anyway, that opens a bunch of new problems that take up time I could use for doing something else. I'm sorry I got a little carried away with that, but I wanted to let everyone know what I thought about it.
