Havoc208 provided a link to a site that has some basic information on the Covenant's history. Its what I used for the general basis of Chapter 12. Most of that chapter however, was my own convoluted take on the formation of the Covenant.

Like a couple people have already said before, Bungie will really have to step up to the plate if they can somehow manage to make Halo 3 as well-done as Mr. C has continued the story.

Status Update

I'm having creative differences....with myself, over a few of the finer details concerning Chapter 13. Shouldn't pose too much of a problem, but I can already tell I'll be losing sleep over it tonight.

While I take this little break to fill you guys in, I might as well take the time to congratulate all the new stories everybodies been writing. Reading some of your own views on the Halo universe is awesome, and it really is a motivator.

Here's a few musings on my part, as I'm so often to give while working on a chapter of certain importance. Judging from my last few musings, you'll know they often pertain to the chapter I'm writing at the time, so if you want a sneak peak, check the next few things out and do a little thinking on them.

What do you suppose the life expectancy is of a Prophet? I've always kinda thought they were pretty much ageless, cause I recall the transmission in the Conversations of the Universe booklet, that Truth and Mercy refer to Regret as being young. If you ask me, he didn't look too young, unless that's what Prophets look like when their kids, and that'd just be really weird.

When did the Covenant discover the Halo's? When you look at the names of the Ages in the Covenant history, they lend credence to the thought that they knew of their existence long before mankind found them.

But wait, didn't the opening scene of Halo 2, regarding the trial of the Arbiter, kind of make you assume that the humans stumbling onto Installation 04 in Halo 1, was at the same moment the first glimpse the Covenant got of them.

Who let the Flood out on Installation 05 though? If the Covenant just stumbled upon it, then who released the Flood? It must have happened a long time ago, seeing as how the Flood had been capable of creating Gravemind.

Hmm, there's some kind of dastardly deception going on in the Covenant. I wonder just what it could be.

....blah, that's enough random mumbling on my part. Let me know what you guys think.

Lol hmm well im stumped at those questions but im eagerly awaiting the next chapter. I posted my story in the new group as well although there is no room in my sig to make a link. But isnt this new group just the_ark all over again?

Well, Mr_C, I guess you're right about the part of the Flood on Installaton 05, even if the Covenant did release the Flood, then how could the Flood come up with some sort of leader? (Gravemind)
As for the Prophet's ages; I don't think they are ageless, but I think a few hundred years should be a possibility.

Hey, Scorptank, just wanted to say your Fanfic is quite good.
I would have said it on your thread but I checked this one out first and it's quicker this way.

You raise a lot of interesting questions there Mr. C, and I think I speak for everyone when I say that I think the only one around here that could possibly come up with any kind of reasonable answer would be you.

That is quite mind-numbing though, thinking about the discovery of the Halo's. When did it happen? Obviously someone released the Flood, where they had enough time to consume and spread to form Gravemind. I'd imagine that if the Master Chief and Cortana hadn't blown up Installation 04, the Keyes/Elite blob would have eventually been added to until something like Gravemind was formed.

I almost wish you weren't so smart, just so you wouldn't make my head hurt with all these questions and theories.

Maybe the Flood released itself, but then again, how could they have done that?

To Elite 44:
thanks, I appreciate it,
but maybe it's better if you say something like this at my thread; this is Mr_Clark's thread
after all.

you don't even have to ask for a PM nowadays. mr_c will just send one to you even if you just say something positive in your post.

as it is, with the PM's split between the two of us, we each have about 55 people to PM each chapter.

i think flood were already present on 05 and some how freed themselves i mean there supposed too be super intelligent according to 343 i mean they probably would have found a way out on 04 eventually

also notice one of the chapters within quarintine zone is called the thousand year war i think they freed themselves ages ago and have been fighting the sentinals etc since then non stop but they suddenly when the covies came had a huge boost in troops helping them to progress quicker

and regarding the question about them (covies) knowing about the halos i think that they did mabey they dscoverd some artifact or another that told them about them i mean they must have found someting the reason the covanant was formed was to find artifcts of the fore runners but i think they haddn't actually found one otherwise they would have activated it already to start their great journey i mean they knew about the index and how to work halo they must have found something telling them how

heres a thought mabey they found a few oracles (monitors) in other fore runner instillations and the oracles told them about the halos i mean regret mention oracles (yes plural ) as being worthless mabey they found more but were just not asking he right questons you know the hard time it was giving keyes and johnson while they were trying to question it

If only I could go into cryo-genic freeze untill the next chapter was out.

Arggg I dislike waiting, but for this, it is most certainly worth it.

Don't forget, only a reclaimer could activate the Halo's, and as we've seen, the Covenant are certainly not reclaimers.

Also, when you think about it, doesn't the name of the Age before the Age of Reclamation sound interesting?

The Age of Doubt.

I think if anything were to shake up the foundations of the Covenant it would be the discovery that none of the members of the Covenant, not even the high and mighty Prophets could activate the Halo's. That could have planted the seeds of discontent that lead to the civil war.
