I'm not necessarily taking a break everyone, just letting myself ease off from the insane writing I've been doing. This is a little known fact, so little known that, I'm actually the only one that knows about it. Ever since I posted my prologue way back on that fateful December morn, each chapter afterwards will typically have two or three different versions.

Take the last chapter for example, the one that covered the Age of Doubt. I had a second, five page chapter that I had been working on at first. Due to popular demand I originally had the Grunt Rebellion in there. I soon discovered though, that if I were to keep all the working elements of having such a huge event, as well as having every last little plot detail I needed to set up future foreshadowing and other such events, the chapter would have been somewhere around 23 pages total. Sure, sounds like a nice big, hot read, but writing it? A chapter of that size, with soooo many scenes, plot twists, characters.....ugh....I would've gone insane.

So far each chapter starting from Chapter 1 all the way to Chapter 15 have second versions, that are a few pages long. In Chapter 9's case its almost 7 pages.

Its a very refreshing way to write, having all those different ideas floating around and everything, but it is crazily time-consuming. After I did the ranting a couple posts ago, about the many other things I've been neglecting (and some of those things have been quite vocal lately about my lack of attention dedicated to them) it should be a little obvious that doing all that writing, while creatively stimulating, has oftentimes propelled me into becoming a hermit.

Soooo, despite this, don't think for a second I'm putting the fic on hiatus. I'm up to about 4 pages for Chapter 15 and I'm still going strong. This chapter will be big though, as I've said before, so it will take me a little longer than usual to get it written up.

hehehe, does anyone else find it somewhat ironic that one of Mr Cs escapes from not having a life is gaming?

for the slow i find this ironic because gaming is what most other people say indicates not having a life, although he did say 'a life *outside writing*' so maybe its not the same thing

incidentally this is not a criticism, merely a witticism, before anyone decides im a heretic who needs to be burned/crcuified/both

As of yet no, but it shall surely be out before the end of next week. That's a pretty crappy estimate, but the best I can do for now.

I have been far too busy, and I'm sure several people can attest to that, as my presence online, either in the forums or on Xbox Live, has been stagnant. Doom 3 and First to Fight are sitting there, waiting to be played, and yet I haven't even touched them. That's practically a crime against humanity right there.

You never really learn to appreciate your free time until it is suddenly ripped away from you, leaving nothing but a cold harsh darkness, and a sense that you'll never be the same again.

I do have a few relevant remarks though, aside from my usual pointless rantings.

Does anyone perhaps have some ideas on how the Forerunner originally activated the Halo Installations? Were they set off individually, one by one? Or did the Forerunner perhaps retreat back to the Ark and set them off?

The evidence appears to point to the former, but I'd still like to hear what people have to say.

Another little question here. So in today's Covenant, not the Covenant in the history chapters, would the Prophet of Truth be the leader of the Prophets? Or is there other Prophets that carry a higher title than he does? You'll recall that awhile back I asked the question about the life expectancy of the Prophets. What importance does that hold? I cannot say, but I'm sure some of you will figure it out.

That's it for now, I am in desperate need of sleep, and hopefully tomorrow....or today I guess, depending where you are right now...I will be able to put my nose to the grindstone and get some heavy writing done. I don't want to keep you guys waiting.

Don't worry about me taking me time. You know the moral of the story from the little fairy tale of the Tortoise and the Hare? Well I was on the slugs side. You never saw the slug cause the moral of it's story was, "While slow and steady might win you the race, agonizingly crawling movements will ensure you a good pace and the eventual finish of the race."

That made no sense whatsoever, so I better get out of here before I start singing bawdy sailor shanty's.

Maybe I'm confusing myself by what you said, but I thought that activating one of the Halos would cause all the others to follow suit. Or maybe that's what you did mean by individually.?
If so, then I would agree with the former statement as well. My evidence being what 343 GS said in the Halo 1. Something to the effect of, "You asked me that the last time and having considerable time to ponder you query the answer is still yes." (I know that's not an exact quote) So unless the oracle's have a collective conscience then I would say that the halos were activated from instillation 04. Of course, these are just my thoughts.

I would think that with the death of the Prophet of Mercy, Truth would be the leader of the prophets. Unless you are insinuating that it's possible for the Prophet of Law to still be alive. Either way it would seem that Truth is acting on his own ambitions.

well we currently know of two ways of activating a halo (index and the ark) so who is to say that there arent more. i mean if the ark is an installation whats to say there isnt another failsafe if the ark gets destroyed or whatever. also as Limited Edition said about the oracles. we never see any of them together but if they are a collective conscience then surely gravemind whould of known about the ark long before delta halo was activated.as for the prophets truth is definetly the last one 'alive'. i mean we saw with gravemind that he had regret poking out of him. as for what happened to law and the others i do not know.

and on a totally unrelated note still have not got broadband. am getting very impatient now as they have messed it up 3 times whereas my neighbour got his straight away. oh yeah and mr clark take a break. we wouldnt want you burning out before we found out what else happens.

the exact quote is

"last time you asked me if it were my choice wouldi do it. having had considrible tome to ponder your query my answer has now changed there is no choice i must activate the ring"

that makes you think that last time he didn't want to activate the rings

That does sound a lot more like what he said, minus the spelling errors, except for the last part. But I'm fairly sure he said that his answer had not changed.

A few little additions for you guy. Courtesy of HBO:

343 GUILTY SPARK:

(pauses) More or less. Technically, this installation's pulse has a maximum effective radius of twenty-five thousand light years. But, once the others follow suit, this galaxy will be quite devoid of life, or at least any life with sufficient biomass to sustain the flood. (pause) But you already knew that. I mean, how couldn't you?

Soooo, looking at that, you can read it two different ways. When he says that once the others follow suit, it either makes you think that activating one installation will ensure that all the others are automatically activated, or that each station needs to be activated one at a time.

Just to clear up that one entry you guys were talking about, here's another quote.

343 GUILTY SPARK:

Last time, you asked me, if it was my choice, would I do it? Having considerable time to ponder your query, my answer has not changed.

343 GUILTY SPARK:

There is no choice. We must activate the ring.

That's it for now.

since halo's only wipe out all sentient life, if they were activated from the ark, everyone would have died and the halo's and the ark would still be there. But since the ark is believed to protect those inside it from the blast (noah's ark) wouldn't the forerunners who activated the ark still be alive? Or is the ark only supposed to protect everyone from the flood by killing everyone and starving the flood to death?

mabey since the rings only kill things with enough biomass to feed the flood or what ever they just they left some genetic templates in there or something and we were born from that? just a thought

Maybe they cant make a system to do this. Maybe the floods composition does not allow a weapon like that to be used on them so the only possible option is to starve them.

Srry Prowlaz for the semi-off topic remark, but this one does pertain to MC's fanfic and mine, today i was coming up with how my story would play out and since ive been reading yours so much it seems to belong in a spot in my mind called truth, once i get to the part where the MC (the real one) returns your story always seems to be playing back in my mind, and with you adding of the spartans into your story, it seems to me the could be quite compatible together, to sum it up i was just wondering if i could tie my story into yours from linda's POV because it has hit me that your story MUST be right, doesnt everyone agree with me!?

well i think it would be cool have one chapter from linda's point of view cause in all the books except the flood, the other spartans, and not just master chief have a view. i would consider this but then again not my story =)

thank you, that wasnt exactly what i had in mind, i was just hoping that MC would let me use his plot line for the Master Chief, but that would definatly be a kewl idea . . . its up to him though, but im all go, we could do something like where i write a draft and then MC beefs it up on literary steroids! :P

I've got no compunctions about you tying your story into my stuff.

As for a colaborated writing project, it would have to be a side-story type thing, since I'm bad enough as it is with coming out with new chapters on my own.

It is an interesting idea though, and I'll certainly take it into consideration.

Side-Note: I have some time off over the next two days, so I will hopefully be able to get some major writing done, and as well as catch up on everybodies stories.
