Mr. Clark, you are THE bomb. Not just any bomb, THE bomb. You are THE master. You are THE ownage. Your writing rocks man, keep it up.

My question is this: if Jan and the "iluvbees" crew got into your fanfiction, where are Kelly and Dr. Halsey? We'd better see them sooner or later!!!!!!!!

did you notice that this is fanfiction, not a rip off of the OFFICIAL halo books? This is his story, and mainly it follows the game. none of the other spartans are mentioned in the game and(what i know of) neither is doctor halsey. he'd be kind of just making his own follow up of the books wouldnt he? he is good enough not to be reduced to copying off of other peoples glory. the story's fine without them......maybe even best.

That is a very scary comment, and as such I will refer to it as the 'Ambiguous Post of Horrors'.

Chapter 18 could be ready within a weeks time. It really depends I suppose, like if I were to say, magically fall into a time portal that would bend time itself to support my every whim.

I'll say a week's time it should appear, as if it has descended from the heaven's themselves, upon a platter filled with fruit and other glorious items. After digesting it, people will ring the church bells, proclaiming that indeed the good days have returned, and all is right with the world once more.

A side-note here, but has anyone around here read 'The Da Vinci Code'? I finally jumped on the bandwagon and picked it up earlier today (the version with pictures of all the places that are talked about in the book) and I have just finished it, despite the fact that I have now been up for 24 hours, and that I have worked twice in that amount of time, which is really quite a disturbing thought.

Anyways, its a totally hot book. Lots of weird conspiracy things going on in it, but oh well, its put together splendidly so no matter your religious affiliation you should still find the book an enjoyable read.

Edit: Shoulda known this would come up once more.

If you are perchance one of the many people who have PM'd me to alert me that this thread is dying, as if someone has injected a viral form within it, slowly tearing down the foundations and ensuring that it would fall into oblivion, than rest assured that I am aware of this fact.

You might find it strange that I find myself sort of pleased by this. Allow me a moment to explain, before you run off believing I do not appreciate your efforts.

When I first made the decision to transfer this story from fanfiction.net onto the Bungie forums, I did so with the expectation that I would attract a few people who were looking for a different piece of writing than the ones they were being provided with. I never really thought a cult following would somehow develop, to the point where I was hounded and threatened to be beaten if I did not write fast enough.

Such an event did occur however, and as such I stepped up the plate. Monthly updates to my writing became weekly/biweekly updates. This began to take its toll on me after awhile, and I slowed myself down, seeing as how too much forethought needed to go into my work in order for me to keep up a consistant level of quality.

With these large gaps inbetween chapters, I realized this thread will be pushed further into the depths of the forum, and while I wasn't troubled very much by this, some of you were, and for the regulars around here I felt that perhaps I needed to give you all something to talk about around here. That decision gave birth to the 'teasers' I would release, which were mainly just myself asking a series of rhetorical questions that would let everyone ponder on.

This was popular, and sparked many a debate in its time, and I enjoyed doing them.

The problem nowadays however is that we are in the far reaches of the story, where the end is beginning to grow in size. Giving away any more hints could potentially ruin the story. As such I have stopped doing so, and without these hints the conversations have understandably died down to a minium.

We are about to hit the Chapter 18 mark, and after this chapter I see perhaps only five more chapters at the most. This is decidedly less than I originally thought, but it is what I have come to realize. This means that by the beginning of summer, there persists a very good chance that 'The End of a War' will be completed.

A sad day indeed, as it will also mark an end to my contributions to the fanfic world, and a full divergence towards actual novel work. I won't dissapaer forever though, when this story is done. When the day comes that I have become a real published author, I shall do my best to drop you all a line, and give you the information.

.................?

Mr_Clark, you should either, get some rest. Or get l**d (I have no idea why I censored that and don't ask me) because your posts are getting... well....... filled with nonsense.....
You could just have said that chapter 18's going to kick a** right?
Well, I'm not the one to complain... as long as good chapters will continue to show up.

P.S Thanks for yet another defensive appearance in my thread. I appreciate it.

Truth you speak, but I indeed knew this, and it was but one more facet of a cleverly conducted orchestra of deceit and lies. My hatred for the small creatures stems from a horrific encounter with them when I was younger, which scarred me for life.

When I said I wouldn't dissapear forever, I meant it. I'll still hang around, as the other writers finish off their stories, if indeed they haven't by the time I have finished mine.

Mr. Clark Bar,
Be sure to post your Novel title / ISBN#. I'll be more than happy to order a few copies. I've really enjoyed your freebie writing and am really looking forward to your original work. Screw bungie making you a writing job offer. I'm sure once you finally publish your story your cult following (hoping of course the kool-aid party hasn't happened yet) will follow you over.
Can't wait for the rest of your fan fic.

Mr._Clarky I dont't care one bit about what the -blam!- you call yourself. I just know that you are a great writer on my standards and it doesn't mean you go and start comparing with the real Eric, Eric. So it's ok to feel retarded. I do it all the time, such as acting like a, well read the red words on the picture and click watch. Won't say no more here.

Well all good things come to an end. And so must this. Admittedly not for a few months but alas it will eventually. What will we all do? Where will we go? The thought is far to terrifying to dwell on so lets leave that for another time. I hate ends. Oh and why is everyone saying this is on the bottom. It's right after all the sticky's on the first page. That's all for now.

Status Update! (that's right, it warrants an exclamation mark)

I've done a fair amount more work than I figured I would this weekend. Right now the chapter is sitting around the 7-8 page mark, and I haven't even finished the first scene...

I figured that I would need to cut the scene length down, transporting it around, as if it were excess baggage. It was then I realized that one doesn't simply cut text from a story. It's inconceivable to believe that with the strokes of a mouse and a few clicks, I would erase what I had written, and simply store it so I could use it later on in the chapter. I began to ponder what might happen if the cut text was offended by its removal, and decided to flee?

After several minutes of thinking about this, and I believe I was thinking about it for about several minutes too long (I had just convinced myself that if the cut text did flee, it would spurn a world-wide manhunt, and the text would send me postcards of itself, sentences deformed, taunting me) I decided I should leave it as is for now. So expect a large initial debut scene at the start of the chapter, unless I feel daring and wish to risk certain death.

To answer a few questions, yes I am indeed a sufferer of insomnia. It can hit me quite hard at times. The worst was last year, during exam season. I had the worst bout ever, which left me sitting before my math exam, staring at the numbers on the page without having had any rest for three days, in which I had attempted to study since I knew I wouldn't be able to sleep.

I don't consider such an affliction a curse mind you, as it certainly has its perks. With all that studying time I got one of the highest marks in the entire school on my diploma final, and I hate math.

Back to relavant stuff, I believe that I shall stand beside my earlier premonition that Chapter 18 would hit around the Saturday mark. It shall be sometime next weekend, and I swear that unless I do actually finally fall off the deep end, or I get stabbed by a wayward soul that wanders the streets at three a.m whilst I drag my thoroughly annoyed and tired girlfriend around the city. When I get hit by a bout of insomnia, its the people around me that suffer the most I'd say.

Oh, and expect the return of a certain couple of characters by the Chapter 19 or 20 mark. I won't divulge any information on who those characters will be, but I'm certain a clever few of you shall make the discovery, and leap to your feet shouting out your joy.

He watches every Hodgetwin video they put up...on ALL their channels. He calls them the Hodge Triplets, and considers himself the 3rd triplet. He's started talking and acting like them now. Every other line out of his mouth "Thaaas some BULLLLLL**** maaayne" or "Gotta make dem gainzzzz". He calls his biceps "gains". When he eats post-workout, he talks to his biceps, "Don't worry gains, I'm feeding you. Daddys gonna feed you, gainz *kisses biceps*".

"did you notice that this is fanfiction, not a rip off of the OFFICIAL halo books? This is his story, and mainly it follows the game. none of the other spartans are mentioned in the game and(what i know of) neither is doctor halsey. he'd be kind of just making his own follow up of the books wouldnt he? he is good enough not to be reduced to copying off of other peoples glory. the story's fine without them......maybe even best. "

Mr. Clark DOES mention the other Spartans in his fanfiction, though, and I think they'll have a part to play before the end... To include one more detail that the books had isn't "ripping off" anyone.

"Oh, and expect the return of a certain couple of characters by the Chapter 19 or 20 mark. I won't divulge any information on who those characters will be, but I'm certain a clever few of you shall make the discovery, and leap to your feet shouting out your joy. "

Heh... Thanks Mr. C.

Never read Da Vinci, but i have recently read the Brief history of universe by Hawking(per your interests, i look at it myself.)
as for the beating of you, probably won't happen, but then again nothing is ever certain. such as now, i have no idea what i am talking about....yeah.
plus you do stress yourself out a bit too much for our sake. though im not exactly sure to tell you to slow, because that might spark a challenge, and if i don't more stuff could occur, and, yeah, so just do as you feel, and it will all be alright.

Long time no post. I can see you went crazy a little while ago Mr. C, and I'm pleased to see that you've managed to come out of whatever debilitating disease you had.

I agree with you when you say its good that this thread does pretty much die after a chapter has been released for a couple of days. My problem is that from looking at a lot of other threads, people seem to think that their goal should be to meet the amount of posts that you have.

I think that's absolutely ridiculous, because as Mr. Clark said, the number of posts has pretty much no real influence on the quality of story at all. That said, lets take a look around. Sir_Brilliant obviously has the most amount of posts in his thread, but his has been around since December, and there are a large number of people that simply post in that thread for bumping purposes (something Mr. C cracks down on hard around here).

I can't even read Sir_Brilliants story because I've never been able to figure out what chapters fit where. When Mr. Clark came to the forums with his already amazingly developed story, brilliant realized that his story paled in comparison so he tried to do rewrites, and that simply made the story illegible.

I'd say the two writers on the forums that are the closest to Mr. Clark's level of writing would have to be Scorptank and soulguard. Looking at those two threads for their stories you can see large descrepencies. soulguard's story deserves far more attention than it gets, but the small number of posts in no way mirrors the quality of his story. All it means is that people are stubborn and don't bother branching out.

So for those that feel as if reaching and surpassing Mr. Clark's thread will make you the reigning champ on the bungie forums, I ask that you please open your eyes. It's not a numbers match. This is about writing, and the quality thereof.

If you look through the past couple of pages you'll see some things Mr. Clark has secretly installed in this story that I'm certain no one else has thought of.

Symbolism and imagery that reflects character development and future foreshadowing. There's so much depth in certain scenes that it can take days to decypher them.

Ah, you appear in peridocial moments Konoka-chan (I just started reading Negima! today, so I finally get where you got that name from) but when you arrive, your words of wisdom elicit such momentary leaps in progressionist thought that I find myself near tears when I finish reading. Metaphorically speaking that is.

You are correct in that statement, even if the rest of what you said was somewhat mean to certain writers on the forums, but I can forgive you for that since you're so darn cute.

Just for everyone's well-being I will inform you that Konoka-chan is indeed the only person on this thread that guessed the first form of symbolism in this story between the Master Chief and Jan. She also caught one with the Arbiter and Johnson, and one with just Johnson. Quite a clever one she is, and I suppose if you want to know what those are, then you would be inclined to PM her (please don't ask on this thread) and request she enlighten you.

If you want to wait, I will be doing a full-scale review of this story after the Epilogue is posted. When I say full-scale, I mean its probably going to be about 5-6 pages long.

I guess I should thank you for your kind words, Konoka_chan.
And I agree that Soulguard does not get enough posts, but I think that it is because his second fanfic is relatively new and there's been an explosion of fanfiction ever since Mr_Clark started posting his.
I think people just presume that because a fanfic is new (or anything other than what Mr_C or sir_brilliant writes) is bad and written by a 10-year old wannabe, who wants a taste of being.... a writer.

I guess (some) people can be really shallow ,of course I am not accusing anyone.

So for those that feel as if reaching and surpassing Mr. Clark's (or even sir_brilliant's) thread will make you the reigning champ on the bungie forums, I ask that you please open your eyes. It's not a numbers match. This is about writing, and the quality thereof.

Wise words beyond compare.
