what i meant when i asked if her parents were 1.0's wouldn't she get some genetic abilities passed on? in my theory she should be half spartan.

Yes, Jan was described as a 1.1, I even called her as such way back in the early chapters when she was first introduced.

She received some of the augmentations her father, Jim Lee (James James) and her mother (Gilly) were given during the experimental phase of the SPARTAN project. As such she is unnaturally fast, strong, and smart (and coincidentally, quite attractive).

There's been a bunch of stuff throughout the story that lends to the fact that Jan isn't a normal girl. Back in Chapter 6 I believe it was, Jan manhandled an ODST that got a tad too cheeky when talking to the Master Chief.

When aboard the Covenant cruiser when Chief was priming some nukes to take out the Covie fleet, Jan held off a platoon of Brutes with a Battle Rifle.

There's several more throughout the story.

So yes, Jan has inherited some of the augmentations. Getting slammed into the ground by a Ranger combat form-possessed Spartan probably would have killed any other unarmored human.

As for deleted scenes? That's an interesting idea, might be something I can do inbetween chapters or something.

what my point was how would the chief get mad at her she is a fellow spartan (sorta) it was her duty.

edit:also they would hand 2 hand fight for hours before chief got an advantage. If jan won the unsc would kill her for killing mc.

It has been a long while since i was last online, so sorry for the late response.
That chapter was amazing and i liked the cliffhanger at the end. I knew someone was going to die(as i posted earlier), the spartans dieing made me furious but that just furhter proves that it is a good writing technique. I believe that at least putting the part where the spartans were taken over by the flood could have been writin in Fred's point of view and then have their death in Jan's point of view, but it is your choice and that is why you are the author and i am not.

The chief has no idea she is a 1.1. I don't think anyone in the story does. As far as he knows, she's just a regular human. I mean, he most probably noticed that she has an uncanny ability with guns and is quick and smart, but there's no way he can know that she's a 1.1 just from that.

Okay, I don't know why no one has thought of this, but how did the Prophet of Truth know the being in robes that appeared was a Forerunner?

Better yet, how did the Prophet of Truth recognize the Prophet's home planet?

It was said they fled the planet thousands of years ago. Hmmm, troubling...

Seventh Column Contests

A Flippin amazing chapter Mr_Clark, u keep impressing me with these awsomely writen chapters!!! I knew the spartans were gona die right when the leutenant anounced that the flood was comming to the hospitol. They had it coming, still is very sad to see them die like that. For the Forerunner I am pretty sure the prophets have seen them in the past but have never told any 1 about it.

EDIT: Maybe the prophets just stumbled on the planet or they always knew the presence of the home planet but never wanted to go there because they know some forerunners were there and they will get angry with them and kill them or sumtin. I dont really know its just a guess.

Ummmm doesnt the E in ETA stand for estimated? :P
I dont think putting the last part from freds point of view would have been a good idea as he was unconcious and would probably either died or stayed unconcious when he became infected. Although it has never really been explained much besides the Jenkins thing in 'The Flood.'

Superb chapter. You should seriously think of doing this for a career, this stuff is as good as anything else I've read. Powerful writing which grips the reader and builds all the threads into one awesome story.

Also it's great to see you treat the characters with respect but not be afraid to damage or kill them off as necessary.

The only downside is that Bungie will have to write their own story as given the time limitations for development, there's no way they'll be able to use yours as the plot for Halo 3. I just hope it's as good,

May you please copy/paste where you read this? I don't remember her telling the MC that her parents were 1.0's at all. You might be right, I'm not going to flame, but I'm just saying I don't recall, so naturally I want some proof. :D

EDIT:

@Gorgon90:

He IS going to do this for a career. He stated that he already has an actual novel in the makings and after he's done with The End of a War he'll go on and finish it. After it's done let's just hope a publisher picks it up so we can actually read a hard copy of one of this man's books. Mr_C you are truly a great author, like seriously.

He watches every Hodgetwin video they put up...on ALL their channels. He calls them the Hodge Triplets, and considers himself the 3rd triplet. He's started talking and acting like them now. Every other line out of his mouth "Thaaas some BULLLLLL**** maaayne" or "Gotta make dem gainzzzz". He calls his biceps "gains". When he eats post-workout, he talks to his biceps, "Don't worry gains, I'm feeding you. Daddys gonna feed you, gainz *kisses biceps*".

"Better yet, how did the Prophet of Truth recognize the Prophet's home planet?

I think it's pretty clear Prophets can be old creatures, by our standards.

I'm still wondering how Truth's crew of homies is gonna react to the whole Forerunner deal. If Truth and the Forerunner get into some hositilites, whose side are they going to take? I think it would be like Mr. Clark to have them join the Forerunner and shoot Truth... But I still think either Dr. Halsey and Kelly or John and the Arbiter are going to crash the party at the Forerunner's homeworld; and whichever of those crews doesn't crash the party will go to Earth.

And yes... what is our ETA for chapter 19?

hope this helps.

“You’re just a kid, you shouldn’t have to fight and die in this war.”

Jan felt her cheeks flush with anger, and she bit back the urge to lash out at the Spartan.

“I’m seventeen years old, and I bet I know more about life that you,” she retorted. “I was born to be a soldier. This is what I was created to do.”

The Master Chief’s grip tightened on the steering wheel as he brought them out onto the main road.

“Nobody is born to be a soldier,” the Spartan commented, before he realized the absurdity of such a statement. Jan watched him incredulously for a moment before shaking her head.

“My father was part of the Spartan I project, and so was my mother,” she said softly. If not for the augmentations to his body, the Spartan would have missed her words. Even so, it took a moment before her statement fully clicked inside his mind. His foot came down on the brakes so fast he nearly slammed through the inner casing of the Warthog.

“What?” the Master Chief asked, his voice tight.

“My father,” Jan said slowly. “Jim Lee, I think is the name he entered the program under. I don’t know about my mom. They were both a part of the program. I’m not sure exactly what kind of training they went through, but I know they received some kind of augmentations to their bodies, and I inherited some of them.”

The Master Chief stared at Jan for a few moments. What she said seemed incredulous, but it made at least some sense to the Spartan. Dr. Halsey had never mentioned anything about a Spartan I project, but if he and the others had all been Spartan II’s than there would have had to been a first stage for the project. An experimental phase.

This is from ch15

I haven't actually said that the Master Chief will be angry at Jan for what she did, seeing as how there really was no choice, and the fact that if she hadn't done it, some other soldiers would have.

That more than likely doesn't matter to Jan. As far as she can see, its her fault the Spartans were infected in the first place, and then she ended up killing them. The Master Chief told her that they were the only Spartan 2.0's remaining (he never told her about Kelly, and even then her role in this story hasn't been announced) so to her she's pretty much got the mindset that in one fell swoop she failed to protect the last remnants of his family, but also killed them.

Jan's only seventeen years old, and putting aside the many different horrible things that have happened to her before the start of this story, she has to deal with the normal things that come with being her age. Most teenage girls I know like to put up that big strong front, but are in truth amazingly insecure. That's true of most teenagers, male or female, so ladies please don't kill me over that remark.

Jan's mental state aside though, we're going to have to wait and see what John's reaction to this whole thing winds up being. Of course he might not even find out....oooooooh, I wonder what that statement could mean?

New questions to ponder.

If Gravemind's control the flood, I am assuming they do, and if the new gravemind was just killed, who's controlling the flood now? Is it probable to assume that there is more than one on Earth? If so, what do you think will happen next? And one last question. Do the graveminds have a central leader or are all of them working collectively?

But surely the flood know she is there now. With only a pistol to defend her and the marines on the roof, her doom is certain. Is it possible that her part in the story is almost complete? Do you think that Mr. Clark will take her from the MC as well? Maybe that's what he meant by, "He might not even find out". But, then again, I'm usually wrong so.....

Here's Uberdawg's predictions for Chapter 19:

1. The Arbiter and Master Chief, perhaps after a brief skirmish or two with the Brutes, will realize that there's something up with the Elite's homeworld. Not sure what.

2. Dr. Halsey and Kelly will show up at Earth with something(s) big and bad to save the day.

3. The Prophet of Truth will die.

4. Sgt. Johnson won't take a shower.

5. Col. Ackerson will take off and go somewhere and Captain Keyes will go after him.

Those be my 2 cents. Any one of y'all care to give some predictions for Chapter 19?

I stumbled on this thread yesterday and got so absorbed into it that I read through, not only the story, but also many of the other meaningful posts. Mr_Clark, this is an amazing piece of work that you have put together, I can hardly wait for the next chapter. Thank you, for such a great piece of writing!
