about the arm i dont think its goin to come back (the mechanical one is a good idea) but i dont think it will be able to be puttin back on w/ his healing powers. The wound near his shoulder would heal and close up and so would the cut on the arm making it impossible for the two to merge when they are already healed (get it?).

Nah, that would just be creepy. But to the guy above, you would think 500 years in the future they would be able to sew an arm back on. I still like the robotic arm, though. It would make him almost Spartan-like!

Gravemind better be dead, after going through everything Johnson had to, to kill the thing, having it survive would be just plain mean.

Chapter 9 Status Update:

I'm plugging along quite well, as you can tell from the time of this post, sleep is of no concern to me, as I will write until I exhaust my muse and collapse, drained of life.

And what's all this Gravemind talk about? Didn't he just die last chapter?

....oh wait, heh heh, I see. Everyone just wants a rematch right?

Johnson vs. Gravemind! Round 2!

If Gravemind is dead then why would Cortana still be seeing interference from him as noted below from chapter 8?

“Scanning,” Cortana said. “I’ve detected one signal, though there is still interference from the Flood leader, and I cannot determine if the subject is still alive.”

I've never been very good with foreshadowing. Let me just make one little note.

Gravemind still had 2401 Pentium Tangent, which means he's still capable of moving freely about the Halo grid. Despite it being destroyed, there was probably enough power remaining for him to make one last transport jump before he was crushed by the collapsing room.

That being said, if Gravemind did jump, where would he have gone? Also, would I be so cruel as to have him survive after Johnson nearly died fighting it.

Hmmm, questions and questions, with no answers, maybe I am a little cruel

HAHAHA.. nice.
Ahhh, setting up the future with small in story hints that drive the reader insane. Yummy, good stuff.
I have to agree, though. Johnson gave it his all, but for gravemind to die now... hmmm... there's a lot of story left (according to Mr_Clark) and from what I've read.. there is still a lot for gravemind to do. He's gonna be a real pain in the arse for sure.

Mr_Clark,

Questions in deed, I only posted as a matter of course due to the implication made by you that he died in chapter 8. However, I did note that you stated that in the form of a question so as to not directly give anything away. I would say that it would seem quite early in the story for such a main character to finished off. I was thinking of maybe something quite more disturbing, although highly unlikely. What really makes up the Graveminds consciousness? It wouldn't have to necessarily be the giant mass that we have all come to know and hate. What if it was something much smaller? What if it possessed Johnson unknowingly by everyone else? That would be a big twist for the plot and now that I think about it a lot of perturbed fans. Never mind. I digress and leave the story in your capable hands.

Thanks, LE

No worries, I prefer it when people are left wondering just exactly what's going to happen next. It makes me feel like I'm actually doing a good job with this story.

Rampant speculation like this is what makes a story good. An author should never lay all the cards in front of the reader so soon. I gotta keep you guys on your toes.

A "PM" is a private message sent to another forum member. Just click on the MSG User option on the person's post to send one.

As for the speculation over the true origins of the Forerunner, there's several theories that I've seen. One of the more interesting ones I've heard is that the Forerunners were not in fact humans, but they used the humans as reclaimers, who, if there was ever a Flood outbreak, would activate the rings. This does make sense if the Ark was in fact on Earth, as it would be the easiest place for the humans to activate the rings, seeing as the Forerunners placed the structure on the human homeworld.

Another one I like is that the Ark isn't actually on Earth, and perhaps was on some other planet. This lends credence to the fact that when Regret came to Earth, all he found was the coordinates that led him to Installation 05. Also, what Truth was doing with the Forerunner ship was simply using it to perhaps find the coordinates to the Ark, that would be transmitted by activating something on Earth.

Either way, there's a lot of different thoughts out there on the origins of the Forerunners and the connection mankind has to them.

I know you're probably getting sick of me Mr_Clark. But I love this stuff... I live on this forum... if they did a count of how many posted I've made.. it would be in the thousands by now. Anyway,.. that is an awesome theory. One that I must have missed with all of the theory posts that have been thrown into this forum.
It does make since that if Regret had found the Ark on Earth, a missing piece of Forerunner technology, then he would have done all he could to fully understand it's purpose. He left Earth so suddenly, leaving everything (including the rest of his attack group) on or near Earth. What did he find that made him suddenly jump to Installation 5? He told the others in his transmission that he didn't expect humans to be on Earth, well, at least not in such a large number.
... It was almost as if they didn't think Earth was our homeworld. *???*
If the Ark isn't on Earth, then it would explain why Regret left. But there are a lot of reason's why he could have left Earth, but if he was running from the human's overwhelming numbers, then why Slipspace to Halo 05 and abandoned what he found? Why not regroup with the rest of his attack group and wait for Truth and Mercy to bring the rest of the Fleet.

What did he find? What made him step beyond Truth (who seems to be the most influential of the Prophets), and act so suddenly?

More questions. All of which can be viewed anyway, but you really stirred up a nest of bees with that. I'm really interested to see what theory you use for your story. I really can't wait to see how Truth plays into all of this, if he's alive.

Right Marines?
"OOHRAHH, that was confusing, sir!"
Read a book and get learneded, Marine. LOL

Very interesting. Hmmmm....Could it be possible that Regret did find the ark along with the coordinates to instillation 05. Without the Halos being set for remote activation the ark was useless. The ark, according to Guilty Spark, could only activate the halos once the Halos had been set for remote activation. This could only be done by inserting and removing the index. Maybe that's why Truth left for Earth after the index was removed.

Also, I'm trying to remember where Regret said that he did not expect to find humans. I can't recall that off the top of my head. I do remember Cortana saying something to the effect that it appeared he did not expect to find them there.

Thanks, LE
