Perhaps Guilty Spark was referring to the "worlds" as instillations. That would add a spin.

Quite a spin indeed.

Don't be too quick to blame the Brutes. They've been deceived much in the same way as the Elites were. Tartarus and his fleet were the only Brutes that were aware of the truth, and now they're all dead/consumed.

They just have a kind of inferiority complex, much like the ODST's. They think they're vastly superior than all others, and they like to show that. Tartarus was blind, but perhaps there are others in the Jiralhanae ranks that may be more open to discussion.

I'm not so sure about Tartarus knowing the truth. I doubt the Prophets would reveal that to any in the Covenant. But then again, the Prophets themselves are disillusioned or at least appear to be.

Tartarus heard the truth from 343 GS, he just refused to believe it.

What do u expect hes a Brute but a smarter one at that u never know he might of wanted to take over the covenant himself with his brutes when they were divided o well theres my theroy

I shall cut into 343 Industries Headquarters, retrieve the Halo Bible and burn any 343 Industries employee that stands in my way.

I think Tartarus only believes what the Prophets tell him. And that he believes what other Convenant or even the Oracle says isn't true.

The problem with the Jiralhanae/Brutes, is that they don't have a strong leadership. Tartarus was merely a lapdog for the Prophets, simpering and begging at the simplest direction from them.

The Sangheili/Elites were different. They've been separate from the Prophets since the near beginning. The High Council was composed of as many Elites as there were Prophets, and the Elites also had a separate council of their own. They might have been devoted to the Prophets, but there was always an underlying sense of doubt directed at them. This wasn't doubt towards the 'Great Journey' or the Forerunners (listen to the Arbiter's words after 343 Guilty Spark tells him in the end about the true purpose of the Halo's and the Forerunner's fate, those are the words of somebody who feels completely and utterly betrayed), but towards the Prophet's intentions.

Tartarus was the Chieftan of the Brutes, whether that signifies him as the 'leader' of the race, I cannot say, but I imagine that he was simply the leader of the armed forces. Sort of like the Secretary of Defense for the United States. I'd like to believe that there's a separate entity back on the Brute home world that is the main leader of the race. Cause if Tartarus was the complete leader, than the Brute's are amazingly screwed.

I don't follow the latter belief however, and that will eventually come into play in this story I believe.

Well seeing that the Brutes are a strong race perhaps that is how they chose there 'leaders'.
We all know how hard (or easy) Tartauras was at the end of Halo 2, and perhaps that is why they chose him, because he was the strongest. Of course having a gigantic hammer that makes you invincible is another reason, but why is he the only Brute with white fur and all the others have black fur? Was it his choice or was it deemed that he would lead the brutes at birth? Questions Questions....

Nice chapter Mr.Clark, it was cleverly written. There were some answers, and some new questions. I also liked Cortana's reaction to 343 GS when he entered the room.
Good work. Keep it up.

Interesting theory there. I'd imagine Tartarus was born into his role as the Chieftan of the Brutes. There has to be some kind of set council on the Brute home world.

Status Update

Work on Chapter 17 has begun, and while it is indeed going smoothly, I see bumps in the road ahead. The release date is scheduled sometime next week. No specific date as of yet.

For now I'd just like to throw a couple ideas out there for you guys to mull over.

Do the Prophets, or at least, the Prophet of Truth and whatever higher Prophet he answers to, know about the true purpose of the Halo Installations? Several different examples have been presented that lend to that belief, while still others persist that such a feat is not capable.

As a few people commented, 343 Guilty Spark's comments on Honor Without Mercy are quite troubling, and lends to the belief that a separate installation exists on the Sangheili/Elite home world. Is he speaking about the Installation that Forlumee discovered back in Chapter 12, way back in the Second Age of Abandonment? Or perhaps another installation?

From the Prophet of Truth's reaction to the news that the Forerunner ship is headed for the birthplace of the Prophets, obviously something is on that planet, or installation, that he does not want to see. But what could it be? Some have thought maybe it could be the Flood? Maybe some kind of new creature? I'll give you a hint though, to help keep you from beating me with clubs. What's awaiting those of the Forerunner ship is far more sinister than anything you could imagine.

Last thought for today is in regards to the SPARTAN III's that Ackerson sent off to Delta Halo. Evidently something has gone wrong, judging from the conversation Jan eavesdropped on. Some of you have guessed that they ran into Gravemind, but didn't Johnson kill him way back in Chapter 8? If he's dead, than what attacked the Brute fleet? I suppose the question I should be asking is, what was Gravemind initially?

Hmmm, so many questions, and no answers. I'm truly evil.

Finally, away from the evil musings on my part, I'd like to address a topic I've been seeing in many of the PM's that have been thrown my way.

Apparently many people are troubled over the 'slowing down' of this thread, and have pointed out that while this thread has just reached the 1500 post mark, the other fanfic threads are growing much stronger than this one.

Well, I'd just have to say that I think its a good thing this thread is not still exploding in size. The majority of people that look at these forums and are interested in fanfiction have come and are presently reading this fanfic I've sculpted, and to be honest I don't mind it when they neglect to post in this thread after reading a new chapter, or commenting on something that I said that caught their eye in a PM to me.

I put such musings like the three separate scenario's way up at the top of this post to give those that check up regularily for updates a chance to keep themselves involved. Certainly I don't necessarily have to, as I have a PM system in place, that almost always keeps everybody informed of a new chapter. I do it because I want the people that do hang around to have something to think about or comment on.

I've said it before, I really don't care if this thread drops down to page 234 while I'm creating a new chapter, especially if there's nothing to talk about. I dislike bump posts, and as such I try to put as much information into one post as possible, like this one, which has grown far too large as it is.

So, in short, I won't mind if at the end of this fanfic craze, this thread is way at the low end of the spectrum. Post counts and such are of little consequence to me. You've all seen me get quite excited when on fanfiction.net this story has gotten a high review count, simply because the reviews on that site are typically critiques and comments about the story, and show that in little more than 6 months between stories, I've grown immensely as a writer.

What really matters to me is that there's some people out there that find my writing, and the worlds I mold to be interesting, and fun to read. If at the end of a story, I can say that at least one person read it all the way through, and found it to be enjoyable, than overall the whole project was a success, and the huge community of fans I've developed here on the forums and over on ff.net is truly mind-boggling sometimes. I try to put it in words just how much I appreciate the support shown to me by the readers, but since I'm best at writing, I do so in my work. The quality of chapters I produce, and the care that goes into making sure no loose ends are created, is because of all of you. So thank you all very much.

The size of this thread at the end of the day is of no real consequence to me. If everybody else has threads reaching into the 10,000 post areas, that won't hurt me. I won't sit in my room and sob to myself wondering why I've been cursed. Instead I'll pat myself on the back, tell myself I did a good job, and just keep writing, cause in the end, it all comes down to the writing, and if you don't have that, than however many posts you've got is inconsequential.

a fine thought indeed. anyway, i was picturing the fact that Gravemind "5" is dead, but there remain five more(minus one from 04). though the MC never ran into Gravemind on 04, but there couldnt have been one, or if there was, why on just one ring? hmm... Interesting
I'm thinking too hard again.(brain implodes), .....DOODIE DOOODIE DOOOOOOO.

Mr Clark you don't need to worry about this thread not having as many posts as others, as long as those that care about the fanfic continue to read and enjoy this fantastic piece of literature then that is all that matters. As to what you said, I think that Truth has 'overstepped' his mark attacking earth and getting rid of three species of the covenant. It's the same as a General saying he does not want air support, only ground and sea. The higher Prophets are wanting a reason for his actions, they may not even know about the other rings and perhaps that Truth has his own agenda for activating them. As for Gravemind who is to say that there is not more like him (or her?) or perhaps Johnson only destroyed the physical body of Gravemind and his mind transferred somewhere else? Seeing as 'it' can control all the flood with it's mind? No matter wherever you go with the story Mr Clark I am sure it will be the right choice.

I belive Tartarus could have been the Cheiftain of a single Tribe of Brutes that may have been the most dominate over there Home World. But there is one question that may not have been answered. What happened to that Brute Ship that the Flood attacked...who was the creature that was on it and what does it intend to do.

Team Training
Neutral Bomb On Beaver Creek

I run to the bomb as fast as I can and grab it. I then proceed to run to the back room of my base and crouch down in the other teams bomb arming point. I yell to my team " Hey guys I can't arm the bomb, Halo 2 must be broken." The 3 members of my team come to my aid and greet me with a fairly rude explanation that this is not the right base and also point out that I am a -blam!--blam!-. I argue with them and explain that I don't have the option to arm the bomb. It went somthing like this: "Hey guys the circley thing isn't here so ill just crouch on until it will work." They respond with some fairly vile language as well as insults aimed at my intelligence. After about another minute of teabagging the arming point and arguing about the validty of my efforts I decide to really aggrivate my teamates. I stand up and exclaim " Oh! It must be defend the bomb mode, that's why it wont arm." "Ok team what we have to do is not let the other team get the bomb, help defend me." At this point my team blows a gasket and starts to use the F word regarding me and other -blam!--blam!- males. Then, just as they start to the betray me, the other team waltzes in, kills us all and scores. Oh the Tomfoolery!
