godamit i hate all these new music players that support downloaded music. Not only is downloaded music horrible quality, it's ripping of the performers, and if they dont make money, they dont make music.

I'm sticking with my good ol' reliable CD Player.

I have an I-Pod...the sound quality is fine. You're right about everything unless of course you buy the music off I-Tunes...which I do.

Yeah, Apple doesn't support the piracy of music to my knowledge, and even with iTunes you have to pay per song.

I have an archos mp3/mp4 player. For the lower than the price of an iPod Mini I got a 40GB hard drive and color LCD screen, all in a very small package (the size or a regular iPod). I can watch DVD's on the go and listen to all the music I want. I use RealOne's Rhapsody, it's basically the exact same thing as iTunes.

If you download music, then of course you'll get low quality. That's what happens when people compress audio into MP3, or worse, WMA format.

Luckily, you don't have to be an idiot. If you must compress music, then you can use AAC format, which is superior to MP3 for similar file sizes. Or, if you use iTunes (who doesn't?), then you can compress to Apple Lossless, which I have a feeling is just really high quality AAC - it's CD quality for half the size of AIFF. Or you could just load your music onto your iPod in AIFF or WAV (ie uncompressed CD quality audio). Sure, it takes up a lot of space, but if you have a 40 GB iPod, that's still a lot of music.

There are plenty of other reasons why digital players like the iPod are superior to portable CD players, but they are so bleedingly obvious that I'm not going to waste anyone's time.

I think if your music really is worth listening to people will buy your music anyway. Personally, I download songs to see if I like the band then I go down to the store and buy the CD. I think I do my part in supporting the bands I like from buying all those damn shirts.

Actually, licensing fees for bands is taken out of the 99c you pay when you buy a song on iTunes. Apple just barely manages to break even from iTunes Music Store downloads. The iPod is expensive because it's so goshdarn awesome.

Maby the music is good quality, but your ears are tuned wrong.
There is always the other, true possibility though.
