To Bungie,

If you are reading this, which I hope you are, I am asking in all sincerity that you simply add Live support to Halo CE. That's it. No other changes, no other additions, nothing else.

I found this petition today, 4/23/2008, after a night spent with some friends. You know what we did? I will tell you. We played Halo CE, system link, for roughly 8 hours straight. I haven't had that much fun in ages, even when trying to system link Halo 3. It is just not the same.

Now, I know you may just blow this post off as just one person's opinion, but that is not true, and I know that you know it. There are thousands of people, just like me, my friends, my acquaintances, that would PAY to have an online capable version of Halo CE. All I ask is that you take it into consideration, and who knows, you may just have yourself another hefty profit just for adding and editing some game code.

All in all, I can't really describe how much this would mean to me and every other dreamer, but I can tell you that something like this would make a ton of people very happy. I'm sure you will do the right thing. And please, watch the petition carefully, as it may just be enough.

Regards,

John

Edit:

Here are some additional thoughts I would like to jot down. For starters, the addition of Live support would only have to be extremely simple. Exactly like system link with voice. That is it. Stats are irrelevant, medals are irrelevant. What made Halo CE so stimulating and powerful is an indescribable essence. It is nearly impossible to find words adequate enough to describe it. I wish I could, but I just can't. Bungie, please do not ignore this as some crazy idea. You know just as well as I do that this is a sincere request.

Oh, I'm certain a few thousand people would shell out money for a Live enabled Halo CE, but that's the problem, isn't it. Thousands of people buying a game is disastrous, totally disastrous. We're not talking, "oops, we went into the red on this", we're talking "we've lost so much money making this that a lot of people will probably lose their jobs". The cold, hard fact is that you don't realize just how much the companies involved would have to suffer for the sake of your nostalgia.

The implementation of barebones Live multiplayer isn't a simple thing, we're talking about bringing in professional programmers, playtesters, and a collection of other people to organize and oversee the project. Every last person needs to be payed. On top of that, you have to start digging into the game's code and then force in features that the engine was never designed to support in the first place. That results in a truly mountainous amount of work and testing just to add what you call "extremely simple".

Sorry to be so blunt, but the people who keep asking this desperately need to pull their head out of the clouds. The game has had its time in the sun and people have moved on.

They did make Halo CE with Live, it's called Halo PC. And yeah, we all think it would be cool to see Halo on Live, but maybe one of the reasons it was so special is that it wasn't on Live. And Bungie doesn't want to ruin the game just to see what could have been. The game was great, and it should be left at that.

And unfortunately, petitions aren't allowed on Bungie.net, so...
