You should see my other concepts. If they were to be all implemented halo 2 would be out in..........Fall 2552, not Fall 2004. But I can wait.

Look at it this way, we'd be able to laugh at Bungie or we'd be like NOOOOO!!!! BUNGIE GOT HIT BY THE COVENANT! NOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and then we'd all die.

I put this on the other thread but its on page 13 already so I'm re-posting here.

You know, I think if Bungie put some work into this (which might delay game so make it downloadable from Xbox Live or something) they might be able to balance things out. Firstly, lets be real, who wants to be a Grunt from more than just laughs... *crickets* yeah I thought so. A way to balance this out might be to allow only so many of one thing. Like since theres only 1 MC in Halo theres only one MC in this. And then for ODST's there would be 1 for every 2 people who are HP's (human players) but one of those has to be a Marine. I know what your thinking: DUDE, Marines are just fodder dude. Well if they got to start out with a specific human weapon of choice then it might balance. They might carry the rocket launcher or Sniper rifle into battle while ODST's and the MC doing more of the charging in stuff.

Since few, if any, are going to want to be a grunt. Maybe make them bots, you know just to fill up the fodder rank, or just say "good day" to them. Brutes could be the main stream for covies, since they dont got a shield. This makes them somewhat even with basic Marines. Then have 1 Elite for every two CP's (covie players); one of them having to be a Brute, 1 Jackel for every 3 CP's; 2 having to be Brute/Elite, and 1 Hunter for every 5 CP's; 4 of them having to be Brute/Elite/Jackle. Jackels would only be able to use the PR, P. Pistol, and Needeler, one handers. Since, Jackels didn't have a melee attack, or at least I never saw it I just got pointed at... you couldn't see it on the outside but it hurt :(, they might be able to move their shield around in some way instead. Brutes would have to carry their gun at all times, only allowing for one variable weapon. Elites would have to be put on par with ODST's. Now of course just like in the game, Covies would have to work together to really be successful. Doing this covers the short comings of their friends.

Another idea: Make it so that Humans can only use human weapons and Covies can only use covie weapons. I know that in Halo sometimes, Specificly on Truth and Rec, Marines used covies weapons but for the sake of atmosphere lets say only MC knows how to use them. This basicly makes MC one of the better guys to be, but you could always have a Golden Elite who is on par with MC, who can even use human weapons, what a hereitic.

I covered all the balance problems I could think of, post criticisms (plz don't just rant/flame me I'm fargile) and I'll try to work them out. And then, maybe, jjjuuust maybe Bungie might do it if I send them an E-Mail or something. This might just turn out to be a fun game type that we see in the future... but i doubt that highly.

Maybe but I like my concept a lot better. I know for sure at least 20 people that would love to play as a Grunt and a Jackal. Not so many though as a Brute or Hunter.

All we need is spartans and elites, maybe one other species like a brute as well.

Twelve Large ²

An army of sheep led by a lion would defeat an army of lions led by a sheep.

I want to play as a Marine, Grunt, Jackal, etc.. It would just add so much more to the experience, and I'm not just talking wicked looking visuals. The key would be to balance out each units respective characters. Just as you would in single player.

I wouldn't be looking to balance out an Elite with a Marine, or a Grunt with a SPARTAN. I would be balancing Marines and Grunts.. Jackals and ODST's. You would have to limit certain things.. Like the amount of SPARTANS/ELITES vs.. the "cannon fodder". Plus, with the addition of TSUNAMI, it shouldn't be too terribly difficult to come up with an online mode that allows for units to pick a leader (SPARTAN), followed by three Marines/ODST's or whatever other human characters bungie has in store for us. The same would ring true on the Covenant side. A team of friends on Live could easily pick their own unit of Covenant, lead by an Elite.. Just as in single player.. And when you take out the units Elite in multiplayer.. Guess what happens? The cannon fodder run like mad, just like in single player. It would be awesome.

I've also thought about even giving "canon fodder" types a third person view that would give them the ability to see and peeks around corners. It might be a little cheap, though.

But playing as "cannon fodder" is definately doable. Balance is key. A Human Unit versus a Covenant Unit could easily be balanced during certain game modes/tourneys.
