others have probably done this: someone suggested using grenades to give you that little extra boost you need to get the long distance across the hole in hull at the beginning of Keyes. another person said it was impossible to get across. first person right on, second person dead wrong.

i did this on legendary b/c that's what i play. first i tried getting over to the ledge that has the health on it. it seems closer, but this in fact does seem to be impossible. you can get the health pack, but there seems to be an invisible wall which keeps you from landing on that ledge. i even tried it from the other side, which is considerably closer, once i got across. somehow grenades can rest on that ledge, but i couldn't get the MC there. i was nailing a plasma grenade to a little triangle of hull at the left edge of the threshold. with the right timing, this can give you enough boost to slam you agaist that side wall, but then you just slide back down into the coolant below.

but if you just nail the plasma grenade, wait a split second (timing is tricky) and leap across aiming for the alien crates in the far right corner, the grenade blast will take your shields all the way down and launch you toward the otherside. crouch at the top of the jump for extra lift. on the 17th try, you might even make it. if you don't make it, pause and revert to saved before the cut scene begins and you check point downstairs.

once i made it over, there were 2 elites to mop up, then i check pointed! the flood on the upper levels of the docking area weren't doing much damage. i shot at them a bit, then ignored them for the most part and walked around.

no real easter eggs as far as i could tell. the docks were pretty barren. going over to the external bay doors you can look down. step off and you can get a birds' eye view of Keyes geography on the way down. you die, of course, and then you fall through the 2D map of the ground below. it's not a fully rendered 3D world until after the cut scene - which you can still get if you jump down through the hole in the hull.

that's my report. i'm sure this isn't news to many, but was to me.
