On gamespot there is a new video interview with Phil Spencer from microsoft game studios under Halo 2 where he says bungie is currently working on a continuation of the halo story, and what exactly will be released soon. Do you guys think this means they are only working on Halo 3? Do you think there forgetting about Halo 2 PC? Just wanna hear what you think.

Of course they're working on Halo 3, they'll make more money from that and the consequent Live subscriptions than from Halo 2 on PC with free multiplayer. Only after they've fully exploited the console suckers will they come back to PC.

Well, Bungie won't work on Halo 2 PC, just like they didn't work on Halo PC. See, when a game is ported to PC from say, the xbox, the actual game developer does not do the encoding and shader modifications and such. A company like Gearbox does it. They take the xbox game and its files and recode, add new shaders, etc., just make it compatible with a PC envirronment.

so to answer your question, yes, Bungie is only working on Halo 3, but they've probably already chosen a company to port it to the PC. So, don't worry, Halo 2 PC will probably be upon us within a year...

Starbreeze should do the porting of the game. Just look at what they did to Chronicles of Riddick in just a couple of month. Now that was an excellent port unlike the political problems between Gearbox and Microsoft with this "oh, we have to get Microsoft's approval before putting the patches out" BS. Does Activison do that to IDSoftware? Nope. Does THQ do that to the developers of Stalker? Nope. Tells you alot of Microsoft's experience on PCgaming and supporting the PC community.

Hang on, you're being a bit harsh on Gearbox. If Halo was made with the sole intention of it being an xbox game, Bungie would have made no attempt to make it compatable with a PC's architecture, to do so would have cost them more time, money and resources. If and when it ever came to porting Halo, Bungie could simply say "We made it difficult to port? Your problem Gearbox, not ours". Chronicles of Riddick was doubtless made with the full intention of being port-able, it was made for more than a single console for starters so it Had to be designed from the ground up to be compatable with multiple systems. It was probably a breeze for the porting company to make it PC compatable, thanks to the expense and lengths that the original desginers went to make sure it'd be easy to convert. Now, Halo 2 was made exclusively with the xbox in mind. This probably means that yet again, Bungie will have made no attempt what so ever to make it compatable with PC architecture, and once again it'll be up to some other company to perform the miracle of a succesful port of a game's code which it wasn't designed for. It's not fair to parallel the porting of Riddick and Halo, but if you must insist on doing so, make sure you blame the right people; the people who made the code to begin with.

Tell me how the storyline sucked. If anything, it was more interesting than the first Halo. I mean, first you don't know why earth is attacked by such a small force, civil wars, all sorts of weird things, then there's the whole time-bending issue with the orb that makes Chief's time on Halo less than a minute long...(I was being vague to not give anything away)

It's hard to understand unless you play it a few times, but I thought it was way more in-depth than Halo. Halo was pretty much like the normal Sci-fi 'discover the amazing planet (in this case ring), land, find it's secret, get the hell out of dodge.' I can't find anything to compare Halo 2 with.

Doesn't matter how many times you play the 3/4 of a game Halo 2 is, the story sucks because there's no ending. Or rather there is, and it's going to cost you the retail price of Halo 3 (plus the full price of Halo 2 which you've already paid) to find out what it is. I thought a sequel meant an optional non-essential extension of a storyline. Bungie seem to think it means a replacement of the most significant part of the storyline which was suspiciously missing from the first game (actually the second game in this case, Halo 1 was faultless).

Are they really that starved for ideas for Halo 3 that they had to take away from Halo 2? Is that fair on the consumer who expects to be satisfied with the end of a story?

Heyyo,

the ending of Halo2 must be bought through $box live... money whores... I mean, if someone pays over $60 for a game, one would HOPE they got the full game, not one where you must get the final parts by subscribing to a crappy system that charges you money for something you should get free! :(

If they do the same for Halo2PC? I'mma burn a copy of halo2pc, and throw it in the fire...

Code not being compatible? err... I bet it was at least somewhat compatible. The game was originally made for mac & pc, so I'm sure the basics were still there unless they remade the game from scratch after M$ bought out bungie...

compatible or not, gearbox could've done a better job, bottom line. They made the whole new engine, they diddn't optimize it with fastshaders n' diddn't optimize the overal graphics, they made the cheap weapons for multiplayer and then diddn't bother to tone them down, and the new patches suck serious ass. So blame who on these? I say blame gearbox AND bungie AND m$. They're all responsible for the not so glamarous state of HaloPC, all in their own ways: gearbox for the porting, bungie & m$ for the horrible support (more like lack of support...).

Well, hopefully Halo2PC is done right to justify for the wrongdoings that are on Halo1PC.

Wait a sec, I'm not experienced in these matters, but how can a company like gearbox make money off a copyrighted franchise? Do bungie get royalties?

Heyyo,

exactly. Bungie made the original, licenced gearbox to make the PC and mac ports (which turned out pretty bad) and bungie gets a huge chunk of the profits, so does m$...

And while the blame of a bad port falls on Gearbox just like how a giant publisher puts the blame on the game developer while THEY were the ones rushing the game out to the stores.. Just sad how Microsoft and Bungie can be narrowed minded like that. I still remember that Randy interview when he said "We have to get Microsoft's approval before putting out the patches." Its like What the f'uck is that policy? Does Activison treat IDsoftware like that, don't think so.
And Skippy, nice essay, unfortunately since I didn't mention gearbox flopping the port, it was totally irrelevant at what you were saying anyway. I doubt Gearbox will port anything with Microsoft given when happened there. Notice why Brothers in Arms isn't published by Microsoft but by Ubisoft so its probably safe to say Gearbox is through with Microcrap and the Bungie people.

It was okay, but the textures, shaders, and such were terribly laggy for the graphics you got. In addition, every interim game in a trilogy ends in a gigantic cliffhanger. That's just the way it goes. Heck, look at LOTR. Halo 2 is an awesome game, I don't see what people are upset about.

Not to mention that the DLC is free. They did finish the story for the game. All they are doing now is adding more MP maps.
