In my opinion, Halo 3's flood were the best. Here's why:
Halo: CE's flood were good, but weren't the best. Halo 3 took the goodness of the Halo: CE flood and expanded on it. For example, it's shown that the flood have a spongy flesh material. It makes sense now that a melee attack kills them in one hit.
Halo 2's flood were terrible. I never liked the way they looked, although the sound effects were pretty cool. They were far too accurate with their weapons, and there were just so MANY of them! I never liked Quarentine Zone or that one where you first see the giant Forerunner sentinals.Agreed. Halo 3's Flood are the best of the series. i'm glad you can melee them now and shoot them in the head now, but it's like the freaking homing feature of the rockets in Halo 2 and the Needlers. First, Needlers can be dual-wielded in the second game, but they suck. In Halo 3, they're powerful but they can't be dual-wielded. Gameplay wise, their changes made sense. Story wise, it makes none. The RL in Halo 2 allowed you to auto-lock onto targets. Halo 3? Nah. Bungie removed some things and added new features that were inexplicable to explain in the lore of the Halo universe so they could tweak their gameplay and hope nobody would notice these things.
Also, the Ranged forms can go to Hell. They're simply stationary turrets that shoot Carbine-like projectiles at you, and Bungie just covered that up with a Flood model. They're meaty damage sponges, and take forever to kill without a Sword or a Hammer, and most of the time they're too far away from you to do that or you're surrounded by other Flood that really need your time. So, you'll need really good aim if you try to stick the bastards, but you only have so many grenades.
That made me hate Cortana so much. That level was worse than The Library or High Charity combined.
Wouldn't "spongy" flesh be less resistant to rifle butt and take less damage, though?
