Halo CE because the small flood types (I dunno what theyre called) all blew up if you shot just one of them.

In my opinion, Halo 3's flood were the best. Here's why:

Halo: CE's flood were good, but weren't the best. Halo 3 took the goodness of the Halo: CE flood and expanded on it. For example, it's shown that the flood have a spongy flesh material. It makes sense now that a melee attack kills them in one hit.

Halo 2's flood were terrible. I never liked the way they looked, although the sound effects were pretty cool. They were far too accurate with their weapons, and there were just so MANY of them! I never liked Quarentine Zone or that one where you first see the giant Forerunner sentinals.
Agreed. Halo 3's Flood are the best of the series. i'm glad you can melee them now and shoot them in the head now, but it's like the freaking homing feature of the rockets in Halo 2 and the Needlers. First, Needlers can be dual-wielded in the second game, but they suck. In Halo 3, they're powerful but they can't be dual-wielded. Gameplay wise, their changes made sense. Story wise, it makes none. The RL in Halo 2 allowed you to auto-lock onto targets. Halo 3? Nah. Bungie removed some things and added new features that were inexplicable to explain in the lore of the Halo universe so they could tweak their gameplay and hope nobody would notice these things.

Also, the Ranged forms can go to Hell. They're simply stationary turrets that shoot Carbine-like projectiles at you, and Bungie just covered that up with a Flood model. They're meaty damage sponges, and take forever to kill without a Sword or a Hammer, and most of the time they're too far away from you to do that or you're surrounded by other Flood that really need your time. So, you'll need really good aim if you try to stick the bastards, but you only have so many grenades.

That made me hate Cortana so much. That level was worse than The Library or High Charity combined.

Wouldn't "spongy" flesh be less resistant to rifle butt and take less damage, though?

Fight good. Fight hard. Fight to the death.

Thanks for all the feedback!!!

I also think the Pure Forms (Ranged Forms) ruined Halo 3's flood.

I'm stubborn as long as I'm not wrong. Prove me wrong and you'll get an apology.

Those ranged forms are easier to take down then everyone seems to make them, also in Halo 2 you could also just shoot them in the "head" and kill them, but I must say that Halo's flood were much more entertaining "The Library" is one of my favorite levels...now if my tv wasn't screwed up to where I have to turn the lighting up on all my games I could play the first and second games <,<

Halo one. Especially when I learned how powerful the shotgun was...wow was I an idiot back then. Tried going through the library on heroic with my assault rifle and pistol...bad times.
Flood are the only enemies that Assault Rifles do any considerable damage to, even on Legendary. The Library is the only practical time to use them.

  • 05.13.2008 6:35 PM PDT

That's what the pistol and grenades are for. Put 3 shots in a Flood form, 1 more when it gets back up, then pray & spray the popcorn.

  • 05.14.2008 5:07 AM PDT

1, definitely. There were more of them, they rushed you more, and they were very different from other enemies in attributes and in tactics. They suited their role much better I feel.

^^ Uhh, the flood ARE alien.

Anyway, reading as I was Master Kims post up there, I thought in the interest of fairness I'd say what WAS good about the halo 3 flood. Fighting them in halo 3 had a lot more variety, and the removal of their high resistance to melee and some other attacks made them less frustrating as well (excepting of course the damn Ranged Forms). They acted more like normal enemies and fought with a little more tactical nous (not much obviously, about as much as space zombies can muster) which helps to make the encounters more varied and deep. They were also less nakedly aggressive, which allows you more options as you can choose how to engage them rather than being on the back foot the entire time - also their own melee attacks were less powerful meaning you could go toe to toe with them more often.

Thing is, for me, I really appreciated the drastic change of pace that the old flood brought. The fact that melee and certain other types of attack were useless on them, the fact they "flooded" you in large numbers, the fact that you were always on the defensive and had to fight with desperation, the fact that they could whip you across the level and kill you in one melee... all combined to make a really refreshing change to the style of action. I didn't get that so much in halo 2 and 3. In halo 3, to be honest, I found them much easier to deal with. To this day, I don't think I have died on the Floodgate level.

They used to be an enemy to fear for me, and they also brought a cool dynamic in by changing the combat completely, so I really prefer the old ones.

I prefer the Halo 2 flood, they were accurate, hard to kill, and melee was useless. That was how i became good at Halo.

Fight good. Fight hard. Fight to the death.

I ended up playing on Easy because of them.

I GOT PEOPLE ON MY SIDE

Halo CE, just shoot off their arms, and you got yourself a pet that follows you around everywhere.

Also, you're not empathizing with animals. You're being judgmental and snooty. you're just using this as an excuse to prove to the world how great and noble you are. This is an ego trip, that only you and those who are on the same type of ego trip could justify and applaud. You take narcissism and turn it into an art form.

Halo 2's flood seemed to be more challenging.

  • 05.23.2008 1:56 PM PDT

Halo 2's Flood were just a pain in the ass. Took a lot of shots to kill, and didn't flinch, had good accuracy, and had no weaknesses.

  • 05.23.2008 5:57 PM PDT

For me, one of the few things that Combat Evolved did better than the other two games was in finding the right difficulty in defeating the Flood. Halo 2's were pretty frustrating in that I found them to be a bit too difficult (with reasons already mentioned in this topic). In Halo 3, despite the addition of the Pure Forms, the Flood seemed far too easy. For a majority of the time, one melee (using any weapon) would take 'em out; Halo: CE seemed to have a happy medium. Also, I found the Flood to be a heck of a lot scarier in the first game. ;)

True enough. Balance was good. However; they were much more scary because you didn't know what was going to happen. It was completely unexpected.

  • 05.24.2008 7:50 PM PDT

Fight good. Fight hard. Fight to the death.

I think Halo 1's flood were scarier because they were intended for a 17+ year old audience. Not all of the little kids that started playing Halo. That is why Bungie changed them.

Fight good. Fight hard. Fight to the death.

Also the music they used in Halo:CE was a lot scarier than that from Halo 2/3

  • 05.25.2008 6:19 PM PDT

‮‮Awesax

Halo: CE was the most exciting in terms of fighting however Halo 2 had the best Flood overall.
Halo 3 was just annoying.

Same, but I don't think that Halo 2 had the best overall, I think they were the worst
