Also the AR is actually good in CQB now and no longer a glorified baseball bat.

Did you buy a brand new copy of H2V from a reputable store?

Did you enter the key in the activation window or on windows live?

I'm having the same problem. I bought Halo 2 from Amazon (directly, not from one of their affiliates.) It was shrink wrapped with the authentic label. Installed it last night, activation fine, but when I tried to sign in with my Live account, it popped back and said the key was invalid. And no, before anyone says so, I'm not typing it in incorrectly. I've looked closely at each character, even tried putting in a B for the 8 (in the font, the numbers are slightly larger than the letters, so it's not difficult to distinguish.)

I'm guessing I'll have to figure out who to call at Microsoft. Hope they don't give me crap saying it's a key I got off the internet or something.

Makes me think there's something wrong on their end. Either that or bad keys got sent out.

Yes, I am a hypocrite, and I'm sorry. I really do mean well, but I'm not running on all cylinders.

Everytime someone buys a copy of Halo 2 Vista, a puppy dies.

There is a lot wrong on their end. Their CD-key generation software does not work in the event that you have installed too many times and need a new CD key either.

I think so. When this happened to me I had to request a replacement disc. Hopefully MS can do that for you, too. 1-800-MICROSOFT.

Damn it. Take it to Microsoft! They need to know about these things, or more and more people are going to get screwed over by the same problem.

Probably. But selling a product that fails out of the box requires some user feedback. :P

I just bought halo 2 from amazon and had the same problem. I called the microsoft product support 18008925234 in us. After 30 minutes of trying other things they finally issued me a new key. Solved the problem.

Wow, a CD key from support that works. That's good news.

FYI to anyone in the future, I called (800) 537-8324 (the above number is TTY) and got a new key in 30 minutes. Not much troubleshooting, just waiting on hold a lot. All I had to do was give them my product key and the part # off the cd.

Good to know. This thread has me curious enough to reinstall the game and see if I get bounced or my key is still valid. :) I wonder if they just slap new key stickers on the returns or what...pretty silly if this is as common as it seems. I bet this causes them more grief than it was worth. ;)

Strange how everybody runs into problems. I got my Halo 2 Vista at Ciruit City and I've reinstalled it more than seven times and nothing has happened. I did not reinstall it because the game is having wierd issues, but mainly because of Vista.

Thus he came alone to Angband's gates, and he sounded his horn, and smote once more upon the brazen doors, and challenged Morgoth to come forth in single combat. And Morgoth came.
