Read the weekly update! Bungie says that they do not even have any PLANS to make Halo 2 for the PC!

Bummer, eh? Oh well, go out and buy an Xbox...problem solved.

Yeah. Okay.

*rolls eyes*

This is what he is talking about (from the Bungie weekly update):

I am a big fan of halo and I was wondering when does Halo 2 come out on PC/mac? please reply?

At the present time there are no plans to make PC or Mac versions of Halo 2. Should that ever change, we'll let you know.

Take that for what it's worth. But for crap sake, if you should feel that you need to buy an Xbox, get XBL, and buy Halo 2 just so you can play it because you aren't sure that it's going to come out on PC, check with me first and I'll try to talk you into spending your money on something better like a punch upside the head.

Adam, give me one good reason as to why they wouldn't port it to PC (they actually said the same thing before PC came out).

1. It will have better opportunities for awesome graphics, as PC's are way more powerful than an XBox.
2. They did it with the last game...
3. PC is a huge market
4. They are saying that because M$ told them to. Think about it. If M$ can scare idiots like you into believing that you have to buy XBox to get Halo 2, they will. Then they'll release it for PC. It's good marketing.

I can't see any good reason as to why they wouldn't port it. You're an idiot. Congrats.

Thats total and complete BS man. Sure they may not have plans now, but I mean, it's Microsoft. They make a console game, especially such a big one as Halo, they make it for PC as well. The only thing I wish they'd do is get their crap together and put them out on the market at the same time, like LucasArts does with their games. Just wait peeps, it'll come.

if they were to port halo 2 to the pc and make it look and play as good as the xbox, no home pc would run it, halo 1 barely used much of the xbox's power, and yet on pc for its best graphics you need a almost top of the range comp. now halo 2 takes the xbox to its utmost max, which is many times more complex, and has many more things happening at the same time.

so basically, for halo 2 to run on the pc whith graphics worthy of being compared to the xbox version, it would need double the the gamin power any top notch pc has to offer. and its wuite clear that bungie and ms are thinking the same way, cause they havent even made plans to begin a pc version.

alternative: get an xbox, its cheaper, runs smoother, has the best online experience any game can offer, and like the first halo plays and feels better on the xbox.

Sure, not everyone will be able to run it on their PC at max settings but I believe it will still be able to run on most of the PCs on this forum, except the guys that have crappy comps.

This is just so wrong, I just don't know where to start. Yes, Halo 2 does push the Xbox to its limits, but it should also be apparent to even a retarded monkey that the Xbox isn't up to the task. Don't get me wrong - I love the game, but I found many of the surface textures muddy, weak and low rez- lots of 'jaggies' and character models are 2-3 years BEHIND what they're routinely accomplishing on the PC. Same is true for vehicles - take a peak at UT2K4 and the vehicles in that game stomp Halo 2's into the ground for shear quality and detail. And they screwed themselves on frame rates and image quality overall by bump mapping damn near everything, when many PC games are moving beyond bump mapping to better shader models, meshes. Plus, the Xbox doesn't have the advantage of Shader 2.0 and 2.X or DX9c.

so basically, for halo 2 to run on the pc whith graphics worthy of being compared to the xbox version, it would need double the the gamin power any top notch pc has to offer. and its wuite clear that bungie and ms are thinking the same way, cause they havent even made plans to begin a pc version.

Again, wrong. The reason why Halo didn't run so great on some PCs (it runs, btw, great on all 4 of my machines, including my 1.4 Ghz Vaio laptop), is it's pretty clear that Gearbox did a piss poor port job on it. One would hope that Bungie/M$ won' make that mistke agan. Second, the Xbox is a PC-based gaming machine, unlike a PC which does everything an Xbox can't and also plays games. So there has to be a compromise in there somewhere.

alternative: get an xbox, its cheaper, runs smoother, has the best online experience any game can offer, and like the first halo plays and feels better on the xbox.

Yu're quoting your opnion as if it wer fact, which it isn't. There are plenty of PC games that have staggeringly good on line multi-play and rock solid servers- anything by Blizzard springs to mind, along with Sony's own dedicated servers for Galaxies and EverCrack, plus City of Heroes, Anarchy Online, etc. etc.

FPS's are advancing and soon games will be so much better than Halo 2 so I don't even understand will microsoft wouldn't put it out this year!

*Sounds alarm*

Crap, we've got another first class idiot!

Halo feels better on PC. Why? It was made originally to be for PC. The controls are easier on a keyboard mouse (mouse will always be easier to use than a joystick). The graphics are actually better on a PC. Don't believe me?

XBox:
Processor: 700MHz
Graphics card: 64MB with 200MHz core
128MB RAM

My comp:
Processor: AMD 2.4GHz
Graphics card: 256MB with 540MHz core
1GB RAM

True, my computer is pretty good, but even a computer with a 128MB card and 512MB memory can beat an xbox. The xbox runs at a resolution less than 640x460. If you have a computer with a Radeon 9200, a P4 2.6, and 512MB RAM, and run it at 640x460, it will kick xbox's butt.

In adition, the xbox can barely handle Halo 2. I get lag on that game like no one's business on levels wth lots of lighting. The cutscenes are terribly obvious with the texture jumping. Think on even a regular PC, with a Radeon 9200, P4 2.6, and 512 RAM, compared to the wimpy xbox...what the PC can do is amazing.

Think about Doom 3. It's a PC game. As id has said, there will be a tone down of the graphics for xbox, and it will run at low/medium setting. Basically, they lowered the resolution and also put the graphics set on low, while eliminating certain lighting and bump mapping. If xbox was superior to PC, why would they do that?

In fact this is the kind of person we want to stay in the xbox playpen, he'd only taint the superior world of PC gaming. The best thing to do when this level of idiocy is displayed is containment, to prevent furhter spread. No one should comment on this thread, we should let it slip down the forums and off onto older pages so we don't have to look at it anymore.

Wow you guys really do believe that it will be betteron the PC eh? Well, Halo1 sucked balls on the PC, it was so much better on Xbox, and I'm sure that Halo2 will be the same. The graphics for Halo1 on the PC were HIDEOUS, and I'm sure you smart computer boys can agree with me. My cousin had it, and I had it for Xbox - we compared, and PC version was way worse than the Xbox version.

And I see you guys showing how good your PC graphics cards/RAM/video cards and all that crap is, but they won't make the game (if they do even make it) to perform on the HIGHEST possible system requirements.

I hope they don't put it on PC. I have been an Xbox gamer since Nov.2001 when it cam e out, an I have had Xbox LIve since it came out in Nov.2002, and I have been playing Halo 2 online since Nov.904 when it came out....and it would be a shame to see such a great game, that says 'ONLY ON XBOX' accross the top of it, to be put onto such a lousy machine - PC. PCs aren't for gaming, they're for other crap. Get yourselves a real concole.

There are so many flaming posts out there. I personally like the feel of a controller better than mouse and keyboard (I'm weird), but I respect other people's opinions. It is a known fact that high-end PCs crush the Xbox in terms of capabilities, but nobody should be flamed for expressing his/her opinion. Remember, MOST, but not all people prefer the PC. I am also a PC gamer and enjoy PC games tremendously, but I just happen to prefer the Xbox. People just have their own opinions, and flamers should just deal with that.

i really hope that halo 2 is coming out for PC

i know that they did a really bad job on the port for PC for the first one
but they didnt really have to do a good job anways! i played halo first at my friends house and loved it so as soon as it came out for PC i bought it

No matter what console comes out, PC will always compete with it. im really happy with KOTOR which came out for Xbox and PC so i could enjoy all the jedi goodness withouth buying an Xbox

i think bunjie should release both games for PC and Xbox at the same time

Do you have a disability, look at your Xbox specs and then at a PC's specs and tell me the PC isn't better.

If you look at Chronicles of Riddick, it also has "Only on Xbox" htt p://www.mobygames.com/images/covers/large/1088617704-01.jpg And look where it is now. Yep, It has the "yellow" lettering that you so proudly claim exlcusive just for you and now look at what happened, the game is selling really well on the PC. So in conclusion, I think you should drop your crusade on "being stupid" for now until Bungie says something like this:"We will not make Halo PC ever" and here it clearly states "Bungie says that they do not even have any PLANS to make Halo 2 for the PC!" That means they don't have anything about the PC version as of today until they make an official announcement. And based on your comments here:

Dragon X, just reading your first sentence you don't even know what you are talking about. You make baseless claims on "Halo PC doesn't work on your computer" which to say, your computer simply Sucks. Why is it that people even with Radeon 9200 can get the game to work, but you can't, you don't know how to find the problem there. Also, your knowledge in computer is only basing a "bad port" of a game to a well made game. Either learn how to compare stuff, or best yet, you should stay in the Xbox forum and STFU here since making a long essay on ranting on the game probably won't cut it for you.

I know a PCs specs are better then an Xbox's, if you have all of those high system requirements. They will not make Halo2 to run on the absolute best PC specs., because then not everyone will be able to play it.

Ok, so I was a dick earlier, and I apologize, but after I posted my first post I was flamed at so it got me going, my bad. I do play some games on the PC, like Doom3, W.O.W., Final Fantasy, etc., but I do prefer an Xbox - larger screen, more comfortable controller, etc.

And one more thing - if the PCs specs are so much better then those of an Xbox, which yes I know they are, why was the first Halo so poorly made on the PC and better on Xbox? They could make Halo2 for the highest system specs. for a PC, but then no one would be able to run it except a few people. Don't tell me I have a disability when in fact Halo1 was better on the Xbox.

First of all they will make Halo 2 to whatever specs it needs. And the fact that there are some glitches on Halo PC is not due to the PC, it was gearbox's fault.

First you have to understand what the word porting means adamh10. Porting means the game on the Xbox is transfered to the PC or PS2 is transfered to the PC. And since console games have a different code and directx system then the PC, it is up to the game developer to correct the code, match where the texture goes, and work the engines out on the game. Here in this case, Gearbox could only port it in a time frame since Microsoft was rushing them to get the game out before Half Life 2, and that is why Halo PC didn't come out the way it should. Porting is probably the worstest thing to do. Probably best to develop the game from scratch and that is probably why Bungie doesn't want to waste their time porting the game.

Also the PC isn't considered a console gaming system so Bungie has the option of putting the game on the PC just like how Starbreeze did with Enclave and Chronicles of Riddick. Regardless the "Only on Xbox" doesn't exclude the PC, it only exclude the Playstation 2 and Gamecube.

And third, the reason why you got flame was because of this comment you made:
Posted by: adamh10
Bummer, eh? Oh well, go out and buy an Xbox...problem solved.

Its probably best to keep such comments like this to yourself unless you're flame baiting yourself.

Naw, I don't have any anger or anything directed at adam. He actually regretted being a bit rash. It's true that in order to play games well on PC, you need to make the investment, about $1000, into getting a very nice one. Otherwise, consoles are a very cost-effective alternative, not to mention that they are much nicer because of the simplified interface.

However, it's inevitable that Halo 2 will hit PC. The whole "Only on XBox" was the same for Halo. Ekul is right, it only effects the consoles.

Pretty much the only person that deserves a good flaming right now is dragoon :D

Exhibit 1: Halo for Xbox DVD case. Notice the bold yellow lettering saying Only on Xbox. I suppose this means Halo PC doesn't exsist then, right? Or maybe you're stupid enough to believe that Only on Xbox means it will only Ever be on Xbox. It means Only on Xbox - At The Moment.
Exhibit 2: As someone else said, Riddick is another example of an Only on xbox game which magically appeared on PC.

And whoever said graphics are better on Xbox?

Xbox resolution: less than 640x480
PC Resolution: up to 1600x1200 (Halo), up to 2048x1536 supported by most high-end cards
Xbox fps: limited to 30

Xbox specular/pixel shader: No, and 1.4
PC specular/pixel shader: Yes, and 2.0
Xbox gfx card: 64MB
PC gfx card: 128MB standard, 256MB high-end
Xbox DirectX version: 8.1
PC DirectX version: 9.0c currently
Xbox RAM: 128MB
PC RAM: 256MB standard, 1024-2048MB high-end
Xbox graphics upgrade potential: 0%, enforced by Microsoft's anti-hardware modding initiative.
PC graphics upgrading potential: Limited only by rate of technological development.

Didn't think of that, but very good point. PC's are always expanding and upgrading, while consoles sit and gain dust for 4 until the next gen :D
