I think that it would be fun if one mission was about infiltrating a Covenant ship, and you would be able to use a camo generator from a dead Elite. You would go to the Engineering level and place remote-operated claymores, and then detonate them after you hop aboard a Pelican. Anyone else think that that would be intereting, or is it just an idiotic idea?

Fair-enough idea for a shorter mission. One has to keep in mind that there are a lot of things that can go wrong when you try to make a FPS play like a stealth game, of course, but over-all, a few more tactical, non-force based situations that require you to proceed with care would be a nice addition.

True, I wasn't suggesting Splinter Cell, though. I was just thinking of something where you are running through the ship and then Cortana announces,"Alert: I'm picking up heat signatures through the next door. Advise that you turn on your camouflage generator and try to sneak by."

yEAH if they had a mission like that i'd just go in shooting anyway. wait, maybe i could do stealth, but only very action-packed stealth with a plasma sword.

You seriously need to read the books. They try to captue a Covenant ship, not blow them up.

hey i've read all three books. and let's think- it would be difficult to capture a ship leaving the crew alive. though they did leave a number of the crew of ascendant justice alive in first strike

it should be like halo 1 where you can use stealth if you want but it isn't neccessary

noting how if you had an elites camo you'd have to forfit your shields for the mission. That wouldn't be very fun in legendary....

I've read all three books and am well aware of the fact that the Spartans first mission was to capture a Covenant ship. I was suggesting a scenario where it would be logical to destroy the ship, rather than capture it.

Maybe it could be a mission where your shield generator is spazzing out because of proximity to a weird Forerunner artifact and you keep shifting from active camo to overshield to regular shields

Not a bad idea, but I really hope that Bungie has omitted "power-ups" from Halo 2. They were kind of annoying. Of course if they are in Halo 2, I can just choose not to use them.

Halo 2 will have levels where stealth is an option. They of course, won't mind if you storm in with guns a blazin, but stealth will be an option. They said that the MC will be able to shoot out lights and move slowly to avoid detection by sensors. I definetly do not wan't stealth on the level of Splinter Cell, but a little never hurt nobody.

Couldn't have said it better myself. Well, maybe...

And I hope that the A.I. "stealthwise" has been improved. I can recall several times when I would be playing and I would melee attack a Covie from behind and kill him silently. Then I would run and hide behind some object, and wait for the his buddy to finish patrolling the area. He then steps over the bloody corpse, and thinks nothing of it. Now, I know that that has made it a lot easier to get through the level, but I would still like to see something like this.
You melee attack a guard and run off into the shadows. His amigo calls out to him, but he doesn't answer. So the other Covie decides to check things out. He walks over to his recently deceased companions postition, only to find him quite dead. He stares at the body for a second and then calls over his shoulder for the others(who are playing cards, getting laid, or just poking around) to get over there. They all start to chatter and gesticulate, trying to come up with some reason for the friend's departure. Suddenly,(assuming that they are Jackals) they unholster their plasma pistols and activate their energy sheilds. They overcharge their pistols, to light their way, and to kill the bastard who did their friend in. They carefully, and methodically search the room for the intruder, which is you. And through all of this you must survive. Good idea? Or rotten?

Should the covies recognize the death of their buddies? Of course. But Also it's not unlikely for covenant to kill other covenant, so an elite pacing past a dead jackel or grunt may mean very little to them. It could easily be dismissed as they got in the way of a lumbering hunter or brute. However a grunt finding a dead elite may spark some confusion or unrest.

true, but even that doesn't always go so well. the spartans are best on the ground. the ship isn't their homefield. they could blow the -blam!- out of any covenant forces on solid ground. but in space... they were trying to capture the covie cruiser in FoR when Sam died. I think stealth would be a nice addition to the already phenominal plot of Halo despite some of the set backs (no blastin those bastards to hell with a rocket launcher while wearing an active camo) :*(

very good point. finding grunt smashed to the floor with a hunter's footprint in his face doen't seem suspicious. but an elite with amor piercing rounds from a human weapon wouldn't go unnoticed. the AI should be much smarter.

Also, active camo doesn't make you invisible. you just blend in better. the covies should (on higher difficulties) notice the slight shimmer of the area behind you.

True. That is why you would have to keep your distance from them and move swiftly.

speaking of improved A.I, i hope marines can sometimes notice elites using active camouflage because in halo 1, invisible elites simply massacared them.
so it could work both ways

Damn good idea, thumbs up!. But i have read that they will use flashlights to search dark areas to find you.

again, that would be awesome.

That would be great! It would definately level the playing field.
