How did Johnson get off Halo?
Here's my theory:
First it starts off with the Lightbulb, Tinkerbell, or Guilty Spark (depending on what you want to call it). He get's blasted out of the Piller of Autonm at nearly light speed. He doesn't. Why? Have you ever blasted away at it with a random assortment of weapons? He won't explode.
Tinkerbell lands where Johnson is the last survivor of a huge battle with the Covies. He picks up a Grunts Helium system, replaces it with air (sinse they were in a Covie stronghold), grabs onto the Lightbulb, and says, "Let's ride" as he slides the Air-pack over his face.
Guilty Spark tells the Gravemind on the Halo he needs to bug-out, and the weeping Gravemind agrees.
They're transported to a docile region of space. "I've found a compotant structure," said Tinkerbell.
"Don't make me hurt you," replies Johnson.
Tinkerbell heads to the structure.
The structure is the Heretics base (as seen in H2). When they land, Johnson trades Guilty Spark for a One-Way-Ticket to earth.

This explains how Johnson and Tinkerbell made it to where they were in H2.

While they explain how Johnson survived the destruction of Halo in the 3rd book First Strike, I like Gothguy's theory. Well, except for the "blasted out of the Pillar of Autumn at nearly the speed of light", since it isn't really physically possible to accelerate something as massive as 343 up to a reasonable fraction of the speed of light just by an explosion like that.

Sorry, no. Read Halo: First Strike. Everything will make sense then.

CAUTION WHAT'S SAID BELOW WILL SPOIL THE BOOK FOR YOU

Sareant Johnson escapes Halo with a handful of other marines in a Pelican. They hook up with the Master Chief in space around Halo 04. They fly around, complete the story of that book, and then Master Chief and Sargeant Johnson along with some other people, not saying who, head back to Earth for Halo 2.

Do not read the red text unless you want the book spoiled for you. I put that there for those of you who are truly curious.

It is the soldier, not the reporter, who has given us freedom of the press. It is the soldier, not the poet, who has given us freedom of speech. It is the soldier, not the campus organizer, who has given us the freedom to demonstrate. It is the soldier, not the lawyer, who has given us the right to a fair trial. And it is the soldier who salutes the flag, who serves the flag, whose coffin is draped in the flag that allows the protester to burn the flag.Father Dennis Edward O'Brien, USMC

READ FIRST STRIKE. HE FLEW OFF HALO IN A PELICAN

But that's sooo anti-clemactic (and i can't steal the books from my...Dad)! I'm still sticking to my theory, but it may be better if the lightbulb was sent off without the speed of light thing.
