I wish they would have decided to bring the wraps off Xenon at the GDC in March. Oh well, more months to think of dumb names like "Xbox 360"

I'm hoping for a convergence Xbox, with the built in ability to use FTP, and store files on your computer. Media Center-esque.

It's also important to point out that Xenon is launching in the Fall, while PS3 is - after it launches in Japan first, of course - coming stateside sometime not-so-close in 2006

So to whoever of you (Banshee Barron) who are thinking that it'll be a decision of either, I doubt you'll be able to hold your wallet down for 6+ months, while watching all of the crazy stuff that Xenon is doing. And I'm glad to see that this thread hasn't become a Sony hate thread yet; that's good

Technology is due for another big jump, just as they did when HDTV recently became more mainstream, Madden switched to completely 3D, and Campbell Chunky Soup converted to pop-off-yourself lids, the last of which easily being the innovation of the changing millenium

Either way, it's best at this time to just appreciate everything that is coming out, and repress the fanboyism that had reached record heights within 2002-2004

Also, if you have a chance to go to E3 this year, do it. I am hearing that this will be the biggest one ever

Oh and Texas Ben, quit being a -blam!- and stay...gosh... ;)

Maka has a point, and remember that just because it may have greater processing power dosen't garuntee that it will have supereior games developed for it. I would be curious to find out what video cards they plan on using in these consoles, simple processor speed is not everything.

I just found an irony mine! We're going to be filthy ritch with irony, m'lads!

Microsoft is probably just keeping a low profile, I'd wager they have something up their sleaves to make PS3 look like... PS2

Y'know, all these specs for the processor are awesome, and you can probably record a TV show with the PS3's (hopefully there) TiVO unit while playing games, but what it all boils down to is the quality of the games the systems are putting out. The system can have the best hardware capabilites ever designed, but if there aren't any good games to take advantage of such abilities, then the system won't be much good.

I'm still gonna get both, though. Just for the heck of it.

Personally I would like to see Nintendo get more of a head in this next console war. They do have some innovative games. I mean, the only other franchise I like better than The Legend of Zelda series, is Halo.

Is anybody else worried about the future? I mean, there's places I'd like to visit before I die (which according to msn thingy is 69!). I'd like to see New England again, I'd love to see the Grand Canyon and damn it, I'd love to see Canada! But the way these console manufacturers are upgrading their products every 4 years or so, is truly frightening......

(To be honest, seeing specs like that make me wet).

Meh.

PC games will always be superior.

HAH

PC games are no longer superior to their console brethren. You want an example? Run Halo 2 on a Pentium 3 766MHz PC with 32 megs of video memory and 32 megs of system memory. Guess what, you won't make it past the title screen.

Consoles are built specifically around their software, and will always have a vastly superior edge over a similarly powered PC.

Right now, a game that can run, and look amazing, on an XBox or PS2, would take a very good PC to run with even half as decent graphics or speed.

Sorry, but PC's may be the future of the RTS and RPG*, but with almost every other genre, the consoles definitely win overall.

The PS3 has a processor that could make your ordinary desktop PC churn butter while doing the dishes and vacuuming the livingroom, while getting free DirectTV through it's built in toaster, and they're going to adapt it specifically for videogames... It's going to rock.

*Open to interpretation on the RPG aspect, I would love to have a Star Wars Galaxies, or EverCrack type game on XBL...

I think you might be forgetting squeezable jelly bottle with the easy-spread cap. Now I don't have to use two different knives, or risk getting peanut butter in my jelly jar.

I have a feeling that this will translate into more expensive games.

After all, with all this power, developers will have to spend more time to utilise this. I'm not saying that producing the copies is more expensive, but developers will have to either employ more people or spend more time making the games. This means that, to cover the higher costs, the games will cost more.

Think about what video games looked like 20 years ago compared to what they are now. Now try to think about 20 years into the future. I can't wait...
