there weren't any grunt/jackal flood forms in Halo because the Flood infection forms couldn't make them into combat forms for some unknown reason, so they made them into carriers

The flood, unlike a Half life creature, do not take over a host organisim and adapt it to its own.

The flood are a race, as you can see in Halo 1 they never, pardon my french, screw a dead covie to turn into something of a melange. The Flood are a species, they feed on living biomatter, more appropriately, anything that's got blood. They spawn and reproduce in an asymbiotic way. Therefore, I highly doubt you will see any cross breeds between covenant and flood.

There are Covenant Flood forms in Halo CE.

Chances are there wont be any flood in Halo 2. I'd bet there is something bigger and better and scarier at three in the morning on a stormy night wth no sleep for three days.

Since in halo 1 the flood infected all of the characters (besides the jackals, unless the carrier form are from both the jackals and the grunts) than it would make a lot of sense to see infection forms based from the brute and hunter. Even better, if there's a prophet, it makes sense to see a prophet infection. I'm pretty confident we'll see new forms of the flood. Come to think of it, I always wondered why you never saw an infected brute in H1

It looks like the Flood have an adaptive organic technology where they create a lifeform based off of existing bio-matter to suit a specific need.

In that case I'd love to see dozens of crazy forms with different combat abilities. I think the reason why we didn't enjoy to flood so much in the first game was because they didn't have enough variety to their forms.

ok n00bs, i will give you the facts about flood straight:
- There are flood grunts, they are the carrier forms.
- there are 2 forms of combat form, one is an elite and the other one is a human.

You guys need to research halo more often

Ok J117, you should also know that "What is the Flood?" is still an unanswered question in the Halo universe. No one really knows. That's one of the things that will be answered in Halo2.

Though... I do have my suspicions.

the flood is a parasitic species that re-write your DNA when they infect you via your nervous system.

Where did it originate from? Did it evolve naturally? Was it engineered? Why was it on the Halo?

You're only answering part of the question on what the flood is, the obvious part. Truth be told, the Flood is more like a virus then it is a parasite since the Virus and flood share the same means of procreation.

It was created by the forerunners as a weapon, to combat the elites on threshold or basis, i got this from an official timeline source from 2002. All things evolve, so I'm guessing that it did. The forerunners put it on halo, for containment, study and observation.

Link Please. I find it hard to believe this were official since HBO and Bungie.net doesn't have a copy of it.

The problem is, you're going based one what other people here in the forums say, taking it for gospel truth.

Most people also believe that the Halos were created to "starve" the Flood though there is no evidence to support such conjecture and while there is evidence (though sketchy) to the contrary.

In Halo Cortana clearly states that we are FLood Food. The Flood are a species that eat other living beings and use that energy to reproduce. They have many different forms, but only because the forunners engineered them that way.

Cortana who is clearly emotional. Here is a breakdown:

"You have no idea how this ring works do you? Why the Forerunners built it?"
--No information here. She's just calling the MC an idiot.

"Halo doesn't kill Flood it kills their food humans, Covenant, whatever! We're all equally edible."
--Halo destroys all sentient life in the Galaxy, by default it accomplishes the task of starving the Flood. That doesn't mean that it was designed to starve the flood. It just does the job.

"The only way to stop the Flood is to starve them to death and that's exactly what Halo is designed to do wipe the galaxy clean of all sentient life. You don't believe me? Ask him!"
-- Cortana turns things over to 343 who's clearly reliving the last time a human had him activate the ring... He just goes on to repeat what was just said... but he doesn't say that the Halos were designed to destroy the Flood either.

While you're at it... ask yourself the following two questions. "What is the Library?" and "What is the Index?"

the Library to the best of my knowledge is simply a facility made to contain or quarantine the flood. The index on the other hand seems to be more or less an ignition key for the halo.

The index allows the monitor to access Halo's defense mechanisms which we disable by throwing those three core's off line, rememba?

no-one has thought of this possibility on halo 2. that the flood infect other spartans and there are spartan combat forms! dum dum dum
(probably the hardest enemy to face)

  • 06.21.2004 2:17 AM PDT

Me: "OMFG, Dude... wtf!"
AbolitionofMan: "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to betray you."
Me: "That's the 4th time in this game alone!"
Chris: "Third, besides he had the flag I was trying to stop him, how was I supposed to know you were there."
Me: "I said, 'I got the Flag, don't shoot.'"
Chris: "Well those Wraith shots take a while to reach you."
Me: "You were right next to me, I had killed him and a minute passed before you decided to shoot."
Chris: "Hahahahaha, yeah... that was great."

We learn more about the Flood in H2. I beleive Bungie has already stated that the Flood will make a return, mainly due to the fact that we will be visiting another Halo and ruins of other Halos. So, perhaps in the ruins of the others we will find our answers. Only time can tell.

The Spartans are enhanced in several different ways inorder to allow them to use their suit. If a normal person tried to use it, their body would be unable to cope with the strain. Also each Spartan armour is custom fit for each Spartans body.

As for Halo 2, I honestly think that the covenant pose a greater threat to humanity. Especially after reading the Fall Of Reach. We obviousely had to do a lot of bad mojo to unlock the flood, if we come upon other ring worlds we could probably exterminate them and then use the Halo as a colony. Did Somebody Call For An Exterminator?

First of all i'm thinking your perception of the flood is terribly wrong. heres how it is. the flood are the little infection forms, the initial virus. they stab the victim and tap into the spinal chord rewriting their dna. when the body is soft enough the infection form climbs into the chest of the victim and assumes control of the body. The covenant, human whatever turns INTO a flood. either as a combat form if they are suitable or if not a carrier form. damaged combat forms also become carrier forms. the flood reproduce because they use the biomass of the victim they turned INTO a flood to make more infection forms that then burst out of the carrier form. are you getting this.

It is highly possible for a spartan or any other covenant for that matter to become a flood as soon as the injection into the spinal chord happens they start to change and their minds are absorbed by the infection leaving the body for its use. in the second book, the flood, john (who is a spartan) almost succumbs to the flood when he is injected but is saved by cortana making an electric shock in his suit to fry the infection.

to improve your knowledge on the book i suggest you read the 2nd book or listen to the game more carefully.

from the crazy guy, "your not turning me into one of those freaks!" or something like that.

Therefore there is a good chance of seeing brute, hunter, prophet and even mightly spartan flood forms

There's no way they'd call it the Library then. They'd call it the Laboratory or the containment facility or something like that. The Library's definition is on the Library forum header if you want to check it out.

Further, we don't know the Index is a firing key. It was only a requirment that the Index be retrieved before firing the Halos. It could have been procedure to retrieve the Index first. After all, Cortana and the Cheif have to go and disable the the Phase Pulse Generators because Corana knows that 343 can trigger Halo. Thus, the index is not necessary to fire it.

So, now, if the Index is not needed to fire the Halo, if an Index is defined as either a system or key to information and while a "library" stores information then what is that information that must be preserved before the Halo is fired?
