there is and interesting connection between the events that occur in halo and the battle at thermoplae(sp?). In the battle of thermolae 300 sparans defended the pass through the mountians in order to stop the persian army from reaching the other greek city states, including athens. The persian empire streched from the medeterranian sea to east china, and the persian army mas made up of many races from the empire, all united under the Zorastrian religion. This army was also unrivled at its time. as most of you probably know, the spartans won the battle, but every last one of them was killed. The persian advanced was slowed but not stopped completely. later in the war, the persian army sacked athens. in as brilliant tatical manuever by the athenians, they ordered the city evacuated. the athenians boarderd their ships and hid them in the islands surrounding the athens harbor. When the persian fleet entered the harbor, the smaller more manueverable athenian ships trapped the persians and destroyed the persian fleet. The battle of thermoplae resembles halo in several ways. First , just the name spartan. Second , the covenant are remenescient of the persian army with the religious zeal. Finally the battle was fought to save athens, and the pillar of autumn left reach hoping to lead the covenant away from earth and keep it safe. This all may just be a coincidence, or it may not be. If its not a coincidence, maybe history can give us some theories on halo 2. (the main reason i feel this is not just a coincidence is from the final pages of the marathon manual that tell of the real marathon, and the marathon logo appears throught halo) your thoughts on this....
