Where can I find Marathon or any of the other games for Mac? Stores, online or not. Where ever.

Ok, It's been ordered. Does anyone, who bought the Action Pack, know if the marathon games play in Mac OSX or just classic? Or if you can make it run in OSX.

They all run natively in Classic, but Aleph One (http://source.bungie.org), the Marathon open source project (works only with M2 and Infinity) can run natively in OS X.

So basically, Aleph one is marathon infinity, but with better technology, and graphics?

  • 06.21.2004 12:37 AM PDT

Yes, basically. Aleph One is a project that builds on the Marathon 2 engine (the source code was released sometime in 2000 - I got a copy on the August 2000 MacAddict CD), which is the same engine on which Marathon Infinity runs. Infinity is basically a new set of levels for Marathon 2. Aleph One improves on that engine by adding, among other features, OpenGL support. This is why M2 and M∞ work perfectly with A1.

To play Marathon 1 on Aleph One, you need M1A1, which is the Marathon levels lovingly reproduced for Aleph One. You can get it here. Because it doesn't use the same engine as Marathon 2, the original Marathon's map, sounds, images etc files aren't compatible with Aleph One, which is why M1A1 was created.

For Macintosh, After I DL m1a1 for SDL v1.2 and i put aleph One in that folder, what do i do? DL SDL stuff? I don't know what SDL stuff i'm really suppose to DL since the link they give me only brings me to the front page and I'm an idiot with SDL.

I don't think SDL is for macs. If you go to user support then the A1 manual it talks about installation.
