I wouldn't call them cheating at all.

Do (did) I use them? No. And I played just fine without them. Although I did occasionally do BYB, which is one nobody really uses.

Using them is fair, but not exactly in good sportsmanship. Back when lots of people played and it was about ranks, I can understand people using them. But now hardly anyone plays.

It's like using fool's mate on a new player at chess, it's fair game but not good sportsmanship.

To whoever said that it is cheating because it is an unfair advantage over people that don't know how to use it,
Does that mean that if I'm playing someone that has never played before I cannot shoot, punch, jump, or do anything else they don't know how to do? Brilliant logic.
That's an absurd argument. For the last time, the developers didn't want these bugs in the game to be exploited in the first place because it changes the gameplay from what they intended. Consequently, players that did not learn how to use these glitches are not obligated to do so, and if a player chooses not to use them then that decision is to be respected and if he cares or does not give consent for others to use them, then that is not fair.

It's part of the game, get over it. I'm done arguing with these morons. Goodbye.

Congratulations. To reiterate, exploiting these bugs are against the rules because they change the gameplay from what Bungie intended, and therefore players have every right to feel violated or cheated if it's used against them when they don't exploit them. That is not "part of the game" like Bungie intended. Having no decent argument with supporting details, instead of gracefully admitting defeat you chose to cower away under the disguise of an insult. That is pathetic. I just find it so ironic that you would call me a moron because I'm not the one being so close-minded and arrogantly stubborn.

In other words, you just got proven wrong and you're backing out. Nice.

Master Kim hits the nail on the head about what players are obliged to know about the game. Glitches and bugs are outside the design of the game - they would have been fixed if it had been possible - and that is why they are defined authoratitively by the developer, and the publisher, and the people who run the online service as cheating. You are not authoratitive - you're just butt-hurt.

Do I think it's ok to do it in your own games? Sure, MLG customs and whatnot - fine. In matchmaking, you're cheating though. End of story. The rules are there and they're clear.

1.Arkham Asylum, 2.Mass Effect, 3.Halo CE, 4.Mass Effect 2, 5.Halo 2, 6.Splinter Cell Double Agent, 7.Gears of War 2, 8.Medievil, 9.Oblivion, 10.Crash Team Racing

By that logic playing Tomb Raider and accidentally executing the "skip level" button combo is not cheating.

All that needs to be said, so many cheats just require pressing combo of buttons, all are not cheat menus in main menu.

Or hacking/manipulating game content with mods and such.

When halo 2 first came out it was about Bungie. Bungie made the game, the players made the game what it is today. Button combos are widely accepted and used. Sure you can moan and complain about how you got BxRed. But it's not going to change anything. The only complaints I have seen about those button combos are in this thread and in the halo 3 forum. Go play team hardcore on halo 2, use a BxR and see if people complain. I mean some people don't know to use the crouch jump, am I using an unfair advantage in that game? Bungie may have created halo, but it wouldn't be what it is today if it wasn't for the players, the same players that use button combos and spend hours with friends superjumping and getting out of maps.

You have some good points, but I still don't agree with you on the rhetorical is-it-unfair-if-players-don't-know-how-to-play-the-game analogy. You're right, crouch-jumping isn't unfair to those who don't know how to do it, but I wouldn't compare that to using button glitches which seriously alter the gameplay. If you use a BXR in Team Hardcore, nobody is going to complain because most of them know how to do it or if they choose not to use them then they won't mind. I've been trying to say if you're playing against players who do mind, then you're in violation. Again, if you're playing with others who use them and consent is given, then that's totally legitimate and fair. It's only if you're playing against others who don't know how or refuse to use glitches that do mind that I would call unsportsmanlike and advantageous.

Don't get me wrong, I use the BXR quite frequently, I've spent hours trying to get out of maps and superjumping; it's not like I'm on the receiving end on glitchers all the time and I'm just whining because I suck at them or something like that.
