Kind of. Any creature with a backbone and nervous system is subject to being infected by the flood (ie: Humans and Elites). The Flood Infection forms tap into the creature's system, and they force a DNA match. Then, they start converting the creature's cells into flood "supercells". This is why flood can loose arms, legs, etc and still be crawling around.

There are some times, however when the flood cannot force a DNA match. A good example is Sergant Johnson. He has a disorder called Boren's Syndrome. As put by the Master Chief in First Strike, "So.... His DNA was so jumbled up even the Flood could not force a match."

Lastly, there are some creatures that the flood can't take over, like the Hunters. They consist of a colony of 'spineless' worms that assemble into the massive Hunter form. The Flood cannot infect them because they have no spine.

I hope this helps somehow.

It is the soldier, not the reporter, who has given us freedom of the press. It is the soldier, not the poet, who has given us freedom of speech. It is the soldier, not the campus organizer, who has given us the freedom to demonstrate. It is the soldier, not the lawyer, who has given us the right to a fair trial. And it is the soldier who salutes the flag, who serves the flag, whose coffin is draped in the flag that allows the protester to burn the flag.Father Dennis Edward O'Brien, USMC

Dude,

ITS IN THE FREAKIN game. The lil floting ball tells you. And in H2 they explain it again. In the Books they give you even more of an explanation. On this site were the pictures are find the one of the flood. It is a human Zombie with a flood in is neck controlling him.

Alot of places. The campaign mode, I really really pay attention to the story. The novels, Fall of Reach, The Flood, and First Strike because they provide a little bit more information then the game, the Art of Halo book, and the Halo Library, http://www.library.psyjnir.net, and a couple of other sources.

Excuse me?
1. I don't think I asked for your opinion.
2. I am no loser.
3. Yes, I could have called him a noob, but I didn't. Calling somebody a noob is not right, and it just makes the person who called them a noob a loser.
4. Just thought you'd want to know that.

Flood are like zombies, kind of. The infectious disease takes over the neural patterns of the living host and converts them into a walking dead kind of thing.
