This is a much disputed topic. Many think that the pistol of Halo was too powerful, I disagree. I think that the power of the AR and the pistol should have been switched, as you should not have a pistol with more firepower than a riffle. I hope they make a more balanced pistol for Halo 2. Please discuss.

They've mentioned that there will be a pistol in H2 but it will be powered down. I see no reason for there to be a pistol when the battle rifle seems to have replaced it.
NOTE: I think it would be cool to see a civilian holding a human pistol in the city. And i'd like to see some Marines with assault rifles. Just to see that there not all gone.

The pistol is my personal favorite as I'm sure it is for many others. True, it is a very powerful weapon but it is not the end all, be all, especially on levels like Chill Out. The shotgun and rocket launcher rain supreme there and the assault rifle is even decent. As much as I'd like it to stay, I think the battle rifle might be a good substitute. I'm a long range fighter so the zoom on the pistol was invaluable. I assume the zoom on the new battle rifle will be just as good. In the end, it really doesn't matter if the pistol is included because we'll still be playing Halo 2.

It is my belief that the pistol in Halo 1 was too good. Pistols are as a rule (due to short barrels and short cartridges) less accurate than rifles. And a pistol can't take as large cartridges. The pistol in Halo 1 was like a .68 cal or something like that. It was 12.something mm. This is thoroughly insane. Only the spartan would be able to hold it. Its accuracy would be trash due to a big kick. Although the kick won't enact as much on a Spartan, for everybody else this weapon is a piece of garbage. The scope would not work with that kind of accuracy. In Halo 2, the battle rifle fulfills the role that the pistol was supposed to do in Halo 1. The BR has more weight, and would thus be able to handle larger cal. cartridges. It should have a scope: Many military rifles are now equiped with scopes - this only makes sense - and you won't ruin your eye from the scope hitting it with the kick, because the rifle is more controlable. The AR is now the spray as you want, as you are, gun. I think that the new set up is more realistic.

I think Halo 2 ought to have some type of human pistol, whether it be the old one or not. Pistols are cool. Although, in Halo1, the scope made it really cheap.

I agree that the pistol was a little too powerful. it's still my favorite H1 weapon but i can understand the issue. the gun has .68 cal exploding bullets. that would create plenty of kick (except for spartans). The scope thing would work though. MC's helmet has a built in 2x zoom function that is compatable with certain guns. one of which is the pistol. either way I think there should be a pistol. The BR pretty much takes it's place, but I'd still like to use some type of pistol: scope or no scope. Maybe they'll have a Desert Eagle. That'd kick ass.

There will be a pistol with more power. It will have no scope and not be accurate at long ranges.

it will be weaker not stronger. The magazine my friend has says bungie figured the pistol was too far-fetched and decided to amp it down a little.

the old pistol was replaced by the BR (in terms of shooting and scope). the AR was replaced by the SMG and there is a new pistol (rumered, and stated in the books to be comming out) that has no scope more power less range.

the pistol was strong enough. I doubt bungie would make it stronger. but, since nothing is confirmed..... we have to wait and see

well,if u guys noticed, the type of bullets the pistol had, back in halo, were tiwce as thick and long as the Assault rifle, and if u take an even closer look, the new Battle Rifle has the same type of ammo as the pistol from halo .

I think they should keep the pistol but it should be downgraded so it's less powerful, I mean, pistols aren't supposed to be more powerful than an assault rifle...

i agree...without the pistol halo wouldnt be the same...but there's something i cant stop thinking about.....if the game follows the books somewhat closely....in first strike you get a glimpse of the new pistol....and from what i read its actually improved.!

the pistol that will probobly be returning in Halo 2 will look somewhat like a revolver, with a slower rate of fire, Halo 2 is about having balance, so the pistol will not be as amazing as it was in Halo, thank god

The M6D and MA5B might as well return. The only thing that should be done is a minor change in power.

Keep the M6D where it is in SP and tone it down a bit in MP. Also keep the MA5B as strong as it is inside SP, but up it a tiny bit in MP.

Other than that I'd say the guns will be just fine. Heck they fit right inside the balance and distribution of firepower for Halo 2's weapons...at least from what I can see.

The AR has been replaced by the SMG and the Pistol replaced by the BR, why would Bungie improve the older two weapons when they have two completely new weapons ready for Halo 2?

Why would they get rid of two good weapons? And there is absolutely no concrete evidence From Bungie that those two weapons replaced anything. So don't assume anything.

The way I see it, the more guns the better.

the AR was not a "good" weapon as you say, and many many people agree with me that those two new weapons have replaced the role of the AR and Pistol. All im saying is since their role is takin over now by the SMGs and BR there is no reason for them to have the AR and pistol back

a different pistol would be ok, even though i liked the Halo 1 pistol, but as i said its role has been replaced by the BR and i would use that 99 times out of a 100 over the old pistol

My friend is in the HMC Clan (Halo Modding Clan). They had an interview with someone from bungie and they asked the question if the pistol would be in the game. His answer was no. I don't have any quotes from it because it was in a chat room and he didn't save it. So if you guys want you can say its fake but I know its not and you can believe me if you want or just wait till November 9th.

I believe that they should incorperate a pistol, if they do or don't that is their thing. The pistol should not be an anti-tank gun like in Halo 1 though! Really! They need to boost it down!

I really didn't like the pistol that much in halo or the AR for that matter, so I'm glad that the AR and Pistol are gone and we have the new Smg and Battle Rifle which are really cool weapons and there are plenty of weapons that Bungie haven't told us about because, they don't want to spoil the game for us.

Pistols are supposed to be VERY inaccurate. I was pissed at how accurate the pistol was compared to the AR. If you fired a single shot from both in real life the AR would be more accurate

The AR is not gone it's the BR now and the M6D pistol is now a magnum pistol. Bungie said their making all the existing guns more nuanced RL=tracking feature needler=more powerful so why is it so hard to believe that the battle rifle is replacing the MA5B and that a new more balanced pistol is in the works it's in the Bungie licensed book first strike isn't it?
