Though I'm still saving The Ark for last. Not my favorite SLASO level. lol.

You don't kick a man when they're down, so don't teabag me when I'm dead!

Got a few questions:

When your shields are gone, do you hear the bleeping noise that warns you?

And if you melee a dead enemy or The Arbiter, do your shields recharge?

Did you 'tack your TV screen so that you can shoot accurately?

If you use an Energy Sword or Grav hammer, does that count as a melee?

If The Arbiter dies, do you go to the last checkpoint, or does he respawn?

How do you deal with Drones?

1) Nope, but if you pick up a support weapon or jump into a vehicle, you'll see your shields crackling from 3rd person.

2) Meleeing dead enemies and allies does not recharge your shields.

3) No, but I did lean my remote against the screen to help with the leveling. I have a plasma, so tacking something onto the screen would be a no-no :-)

4) Yes, using the Energy Sword and/or Gravity hammer will recharge your shields. So does jacking vehicles and also hitting an unshielded Scarab core. Regens also do the trick.

5) The Arbiter will eventually get back up. Death of an ally does not send you back... unless you are doing co-op and that ally is another player.

6) Brute shots and BRs work best. When available, the Chopper seems to be the ultimate Drone killing machine. Only two rounds to kill one.

All excellent questions :-)

I can now get through the first area with all marines alive. Which makes the next area easier, the Marines distract the Brutes. But the area where the Prowlers come is always annoying. I clear all the Brutes of then kill the Brutes on the Prowlers, but while I'm shooting the parked vehicles the Marines always push me of the ledge or splatter me or something! And I always die because of that. Anyone got any methods of avoiding this?

Kill your Marines. Kill 'em all! lol. Normally my Marines don't survive to splatter me. Never thought I'd be so happy to have my allies annihilated. lol. How far are you able to get without the Marines?

I'm able to keep them all alive in the Prowler area. But when I destroy the Parked Vehicles, I jack the Chopper and eventually a Ghost comes along, but I can deal with that. The furthest I reached was just before Frigate landed.

If you can manage to safely get into that first chopper, the area between there and the Scarab will be a cakewalk. Chopper pwns all. Heck, you saw what havoc I wreaked with it on Tsavo Highway :-)

The Ghosts can still rip you apart even in a Chopper. I died several times after getting that far.

Solo Legendary All Skulls On.

Question #1 in the FAQ ;-)

BTW, Team CLASO, we will be meeting today as usual, but I may be a few minutes late. Don't let this stop you from practicing :-)

Ark video is in my file share now. Yay. Despite the length, here are the things it contains.

1 - I suppose I could say I've become a monster with the Sniper Rifle on SLASO. I started using it as a BR ammo conservation measure.

2 - Hunter punter technique. Both Hunters in the second area die by falling off a cliff.

3 - Onslaught of the Warthog! I decided to use the Warthog + FRG passenger to deal with Ghosts. Worked like a charm.

(nothing special during the tank drive to Cartographer entrance)

4 - Stealth ftw. Every enemy in the first two rooms was assassinated.

5 - Sticking/burnination of every Brute Stalker.

6 - The highlight of the video. Seeing is believing, as I change the order of events on the level. This trick is a highly useful one, but comes with a risk; if you mess up, you die.

7. Hammer + Invincibility + Hatred of Carbine Jackals = Jackal going sky-high. Not really anything special, but I thought it was a fun way to finish the level.

Nice work, Vince. Just out of curiousity, if you didn't use the Chopper, what was your technique for the AA Wraith area?

  • 09.02.2008 10:13 AM PDT

The way I worded that does make it seem like I used the Warthog to get there, however, the Warthog was only to deal with the Ghosts prior to that area. Once it was clear, I took the available Chopper and the Marines went off ahead. The driver died, but the gunner did a good job of killing off enemies despite how vulnerable he was. He even survived to see the Dawn land...but I think when that Prowler came it found him.

Or just blew him into the next valley :-) Your idea is awesome, and if it's okay with you, I'd like to use it in the walkthrough :-)

1 - There is no audible indicator to tell you that your shields are down.

2 - Nope. Melees on a living enemy, boarding, hitting the exposed Scarab core, Regenerator, and Invincibility are the only thing that recover shields.

3 - I personally did not put anything on my TV. The reticule is in my head, and if anything, the fact I can now successfully use the Sniper Rifle with Blind on shows how good your aim can become.

4 - Yes. They count as melee weapons. The same is true for a skull, if you really wanted to use it.

5 - No, because you're not playing co-op.

6 - Depends on what level we're talking about.

Edit: It's fine to use, Tyrant. I'd also consider adding the highlight trick...you'll know it when you see it. For anyone who is curious, I'll put it this way: I assassinated the last Chieftan...before his allies were around.

I watched your vid for The Ark, Vincent. Nice work! I never even thought of using the Warthog + FRG to take out the Ghosts, plus I still can't figure out how that fall didn't kill you when you fought the Chieftain at the end, plus you were incredibly close to dying at the end as you had no shields and nearly let the Carbine Jackals kill you, lol.

I used to do a lot of Campaign tricking in Halo 2. Learning how to beat the fall timer was something I learned to do at one point, as it turns out you can make it down from the Scarab Gun bridge without a Banshee.

I never managed to make it all the way down, but I know the gist of how the fall timer works. In that area, if you drop down without jumping, you die the moment you touch the floor. I landed on a ledge just a bit lower. As long as you reduce the speed at which you are falling or touch a surface you can land on, the fall timer resets.

But yeah, the fact is I knew if I screwed that up I would die and have to restart. I just made sure I touched that ledge and stayed on it.

Didn't notice my shields were down when I went after the Carbine Jackals. Did they go down after the last shot was fired at me?

Excellent news!!!

BUNGIE.ORG and I are currently collaborating on their website hosting the SLASO walkthrough in its entirety! As of the present, they have Legendary walkthroughs of both previous games, but not of Halo 3.

Of course I think we can all agree that not only is Halo 3's campaign far simpler, but the addition of 4-player online co-op pretty much just ensures it's a cakewalk. Mythic on the other hand? I think we can all agree that it is at least on par with Halo 2 Legendary :-)

EDIT: If it's okay with you guys, I'd like to include your names since some of these strategies (like Vince's anti-Hunter technique) came from you :-)

Sounds fine to me. When we get to the Ark, I'll be happy give a live demonstration of the sequence defying assassination of the Chieftan.
