Oh - my - God. That was priceless.

I killed the Scarab on the Storm by shooting the core with a shot from the Sniper Rifle.

Edit: Got a picture of it. This was just too good for me to pass up. Sucks that I died because a Hunter managed to catch me by surprise, because my time up to that point had been pretty good.

The Storm

I wanted to keep the contrail visible, but it should be apparent by the blue explosion on the Scarab that the shot did hit.

I just got through the wall. Jumped down to the lower level and was walking towards the tanks. Suddenly a GHOST splatters me from behind.
Since when do Ghosts drop down from fighting the Gauss Hog?

Keep at it, my friend. You're almost there! If you can get through the first half just fine, then the rest will be a cakewalk.

That's messed up. I've never heard of them going down the cliff to go after someone.

Well, I guess the randomness helps had a little extra spice to the game.

I've actually done them all not to long ago. The worst level of them all for me was Cortana, I know you can run through the level, but I did and fought my way through to Cortana and back to the ship. What a week and a half that was.

I'm at the second last Chieftan on The Ark. I have no BR ammo. And he isn't enraging when I go near him. What shall I do?

Do you have a Plasma Pistol and are his shields down yet?

Steam

Yes and Yes.

  • 09.21.2008 9:41 AM PDT

He has no shields...that means that if you use an overcharged shot it won't stun him (due to his shields going down)...

Otherwise I would have suggested getting up to him as close as you can, overcharge shot him, and start quickly going around him to the left...usually that results in him trying to hit you and missing, and you get an easy assassination.

Oh boy, this is going to be a bit of a pain...you may have to kill him in a melee fight. It's just going to be a lot harder since you can't stun him as you approach. Or, you could try to grenade him to death. I remember on the Storm, I got lucky on the Armor Chieftan and stuck his Plasma Turret when he tried to dive...

Edit: Do you have an auto-turret, maybe?

Steam

There's an Auto Turret in the room, I think. I'll go look for it.

  • 09.21.2008 9:48 AM PDT

That may actually come in useful, at least as a distraction. If you could plant it in the right spot, it might buy enough time for you to get close enough to either assassinate him or start a melee fight, hopefully the former. I'm not sure how long those things can last against a Plasma Turret, though.

I'm trying to think of some other options.

Steam

I know he does Beserk, but I don't know how to trigger it. I did it before.

  • 09.21.2008 9:56 AM PDT

I've only managed to berserk an Armor Chieftan once, and I have no idea what triggered it either.

The best place I can think of to throw the auto-turret would be to right or left of the central divider...probably the right, because he never seems to go very far to the left, at least not in my experience...

Edit: Another possible opening is when he throws a piece of equipment. If I remember right, the Chieftan forced me out of the spot I was in by throwing a Power Drainer near me.

If he has a Power Drainer, it won't be a problem to get up to him. I don't know if I've ever seen that Chieftan use a different piece of equipment.

Haha! He killed himself!
I moved in close and he threw a Spike Grenade. Next thing I heard was his dead body hit the floor. But, I have no shields at all. I'm feared If i go downstairs I will die.

  • 09.21.2008 10:24 AM PDT

Nah. The Brute Stalkers aren't so tough. Stock up on all the grenades you can, preferably Spike. When you go down to the room, stick the one on the right and then head back to the door and wait, keeping eye on the door closest to the one that you killed.

If it opens at any point that Guilty Spark isn't near it, get ready. Watch through the glass and throw a grenade so that he walks in to it right as you would come in to full view.

I'd eliminate them one at a time this way, but if you feel the need to, you could always take an offensive route and hunt them down, sticking them each.

As long as you stay alive when getting to the Chieftan, you can recover your shields. Even the two Jackals that come in can be used for recovery too.

I'm going to watch the video to see what went wrong again...

  • 09.21.2008 10:36 AM PDT

*head-desk*

Yeah, forget the jump. It's still possible to kill him without going down there, you just won't be able to grab his equipment.

Though I only killed him with grenades one time on accident. I thought I was holding a Flame Grenade, threw a Spike Grenade. Then another. His shields went down and he was getting ready to run, but I dropped a Firebomb on him and so he went up in flames and died while he was running.

Honestly, I can't even begin to fathom how or why there is a death barrier there when you're playing Campaign and it isn't there when I do. Obviously you wouldn't have gone down in the same spot as last time.

Mind doing a quick test for me? Play from Bravo to the drop and see how many times it happens. Make sure to use the spot I did in my video. Also, just a quick question, but have you gotten down there successfully at any point?

Tyrant, have you tried this and has it worked for you? This is highly confusing...
