The Mythic Threads (Halo 3) (ODST) (Reach)

Yeah. But the sad thing is that the Marines will not join you in the Warthog when you're on the other side. So I tried to just drive through, it went well, but the Wraith had a gunner which I didn't realize since there is no gunner on the lower difficulties. So I died.

I figured I could just take the Warthog to the left as you said and take out the Choppers, take a Chopper and just boost the hell out of there.

Question, what will I do if all the Choppers are destroyed? (The first Shield area.)

You can still use the Warthog to rush the next few areas. I've done it before. It's just more fullproof with the Chopper.

Tyrant: A thing for you to put in your guide.

One thing I've learned about The Hive is this. All the bodies you leave laying around at the end of Hive I, will be Flood at Hive II. Now, one thing I've learned, is after Hive I, if you move around the remaining bodies, making sure they're clear of weapons within reasonable radius, they will be weaponless when they spawn. This should get rid of some of the Mauler Flood, and a Sword Flood when you take your second trip through the Hive, I've learned.

They work like this: When they regenerate as Flood, they automatically are wielding the weapon closest to them. If you separate them from weapons, they, theoretically (and in my own practice) will not have a weapon. Somewhat like how if you separate Johnson or the Arbiter from their weapons, they will regenerate without them. (In their case, with their default weapons, but you get it.)

EDIT: My patience and persistence has rewarded me. I successfully rescued Cortana from the dreaded hive, and made it out alive.

Ha! See? I told you! :-)

As for your observation, while it doesn't include anything specific regarding Hell's Hallway (as it's called in the guide rather than Hive I), the walkthrough leads the player into not having any Flood remaining in the entire area. Check out my video. Part of the strategy when running back to the Projector Room for equipment is killing all the now confused Flood forms. And yes that does result in less competition in the actual Hive (what you are referring to as Hive II). Good observation.

Major C.B.

Well I'm a bit confused as to what we are referring to these rooms as now. By my reckoning, The Hive I was the room with the Tilt skull in it, the first time you visit it. Hell's Hallway is the hallway after that where there's many pure forms and at the end, a bunch of combat forms jump out. The generator room is where you must destroy the core reactors, destroying High Charity. Then The Hive II is where you re-visit the Tilt skull room. Just gotta make sure we're on the same page, as your last post confused me a bit.

On that note, go into my file share and watch that video of me completing the level. The end was crazy! I accidentally used my invisibility up, so I got all nervous, but I made it to the Pelican. You just gotta watch to see what I mean.

Also, I've found on Tsavo Highway, for the most part, the transport hog is the most efficient vehicle, reason being, you can equip the guys in the back with 3 snipers, and the passenger with the Fuel Rod cannon. Three Snipers firing constantly, I think is a bit more firepower than one turret, although it does do less to weaken the Brutes' bravado when you face them. I'm going to be doing tests on which is really more efficient after school today. I'll get back to you, but those are my initially observations. Also, the snipers can shoot from long to medium range, whereas the turret only shoots from medium range, being more of a hazard. Plus sniper shots typically stun Brutes and kill Grunts in one shot, these Marines are sharpshooters.

No, no. His observation does deal with the return through, though. I understand what he's saying.

See, when you originally go through there, there are some Brute and Elite corpses lying around, even after Infection Forms have revived a good deal of them, they usually leave at least three Brutes: one has a Brute Shot next to him and another has a Mauler. I'm not sure about the third, but what he is saying is that when you are going through, those corpses will have been reanimated by Infection forms (thus picking up the weapons nearby). So you can just move the corpses away from where their weapons are...they don't get any weapons and the return is a hell of a lot easier. It also means you don't need to try and rush through there with enemies taking pop shots at you.

Good observation!

a cookie?

lets make a few observations about you, shall we?

1) you can't even get your 45.
2) you can't even beat halo 3 on legendary without help. seriously now.
3) you say this man doesn't have a life when you are spending your free time surfing and posting in a forum revolving around a video game.

conclusion? you have absolutely zero sound judgement. it's bad enough you yourself have no life, but you suck at the game too.

Oh I see. Here, let me create a little list of the different areas in Cortana and the names I've given the rooms in the guide. It'll just take a second.

Pelican Hill: room with a steep incline where the Pelican is parked at the top.

Projector Room: room with the Cortana projector at the bottom level. Same room where you gather the cloaking devices and camp at the bottom.

Hell's Hallway: narrow passage right after the Projector Room. Filled with mostle Pure forms the first time through, then a cluster of Combat Flood at the end.

The Hive: large, bright orange and yellow room that spirals upward. Right after Hell's Hallway.

Reactor Room: room where the three reactors are stationed. You blow them up on the return trip to destroy High Charity.

Yep, that's exactly what I mean! Thanks VK :-)

I've found it, for the most part, works! On my way back through there last night, there was one Brute in the left hallway, one that should have been re-animated with his Mauler, but wasn't because I moved him. He didn't even notice me run through, and there were only enemies in the opposing doorway, for the most part, caught between my two shields that I successfully laid as a trap.

EDIT: It seems I can't type at 6 in the morning xD This is the fifth spelling error of mine I've corrected.

Well I've got to go to school now, so I'll take a look when I get back. Shortened 5-hour school day today, so I should be back rather shortly compared to usually. I'll check this thread then, peace!

Why hello there

I nearly completed Tsavo, I got right up to the bit where you highjack the wraith and some random chopper killed me :'(

Then to make things worse my 360 died from the E 74!!!! *smashes head through window*

  • 10.15.2008 4:54 AM PDT

Lol. No problem. The reason I understood is because you used the term "Hell's Highway", which is Tyrant's definition for it.
It seems we all have definitions for specific areas, though. Some are the same, some aren't.

And finally...another believer in the Transport Hog! I freaking love that thing.

Ouch. That's what killed my last Xbox.

To dude: I posted a referrence in my above post which maps out the titles I give to each major area in the Cortana mission. And yes, that is a very good observation.

  • 10.15.2008 4:57 AM PDT

I may give Cortana another run through after reading that. I usually end up wasting my Cloaking as a resort to make them stop shooting me and slip past the Carrier Forms. Now I can just kill off the Combat Forms and deal with the Carriers at my leisure.

What threw me off with your definitions was that some of them are the exact same as in the Halo 3 Guidebook. The maps in it are handy (which turns out to have been the only use I had for it). Problem is that not all rooms got a specific name, but I'm guessing when they used "The Hive" it was meant to cover two rooms.

Possibly. The reason I gave it that name, though, is because it physically looks like a Hive. I mean look at all the bright colors in addition to the spiraling upside-down cone shape. It fits perfectly with the description. The room just before it, however, looks like a narrow Flood-filled corridor.

I agree with you there. I don't know why they referred to that hallway as the Hive in the first place. Probably because of all the Gestation Pods.

XD

So, another funny thing I noticed while looking for screenshots...sometimes when the Master Chief is about to activate a Plasma Sword, he holds the hilt up to his neck. "Come on, Chief. The level is frustrating but it isn't that bad."

  • 10.15.2008 5:37 AM PDT

I beat the whole Legendary campaign without shooting just for fun. So if you're going to go on the forums and talk s**t about how hard Cortana was don't expect any sympathy from me. You know what? You suck at campaign. There I said it. ODST 4th Battalion & BTW -Ha! I win!

Where is the never button?

Now let's see someone do Mythic without shooting anything!

Actually, StaroceanZero did what he calls a "Pacifist Run" on Floodgate where he didn't even kill anything.

And to Vince, that's pretty funny. Check out one of my screenshots where the Spartan is imapling himself with the Sword XD

This is a good run so far on Halo. The way to the Control Room is open, I have the Infinite Laser and I found a Regenerator. I'm going to juggle that to the back so I can have it after I lose my stuff.

Awesome. How long has it taken you?

  • 10.15.2008 6:58 AM PDT

Not very long, but it didn't really matter. I got hit by a Sentinel Beam while I was slightly airborne, which caused me to tilt slightly off center and flip the Warthog as it touched down. And of course, when I got out I fell straight off the level. But at least the Regenerator did its job. I had no shields coming out by the Warthog.

I think I know which one of the Flood drops that Regenerator, though. I found it next to a FRG and I know where that Flood spawns, so I'll keep an eye on where I kill him next time.

With the Infinite Laser, you can rack up a lot of kills during that fight at the top. It's hilarious because you can stay far enough away that the Ranged Forms can't hit you.

Let's see how they like it when they're the ones being shot at by someone they can't fight back against!

i think in tyrant's guide, he kills the snipers without using the jeep.
