Vince - I am having problems with the Hammer Jumps on Halo (the level). I watched your video, but apparently I am doing something wrong. Can you give me some details about your method? From what I can tell, you put your back towards the place you want to jump towards, then jump backwards and hit the hammer when you are about half way up on your jump?

Yes? No?

It's these kind of things that are really hard to put in to context, but yeah. Due to the way the Gravity Hammer works, if you jump forward and swing you kind of counteract your own inertia. If you jump backwards and do it, you get pushed further.

As for the timing...it's a lot of trial and error, like finding the correct facing, which is made all the more difficult by the fact there isn't much to use on the ground to know where to stop.

I kind of approached that edge so that I was in a straight line with one of the lines on the slope, and looked over the edge. Then I move the sight up so I'm not looking straight down, but at an angle. Run straight backwards about four steps, jump, and swing. If I find I'm not immediately being held up, I start angling the analog stick to the left to make sure I land on the ground and not just barely slipping off the edge. If I don't make it, I can base my next jump and timing off of my footprints.

Thanks, I know its hard to put into words. Ill try that, I think the 4 steps and the angle will help.

You guys seem to know all about the the stuff that blind skull takes away, like what grenade you have, what happen you have out and when it is done reloading/needs to reload, I can't hear that because of my intercooler. Is that a detriment? (I need all the help I can get)

Mhm. Being able to hear is very, very important.

I can tell what weapon I'm holding just by pressing Y twice and listening to the noise it makes. Switching grenade types also makes a noise specific to the weapon you're holding. I admit, I can't hear much of a noise for the Carbine, so I zoom in when I think I have it out. The scope noise is unique.

And Snarls, check out my edit. There is an alternative to Hammer Jumping...but it's damaging.

But in retrospect, a grenade jump might actually take out more of your shields.

I can't play without sound on Mythic at all.

Switching grenades:

Frag: Clicking noise
Plasma: Hissing (?) noise
Spike: No noise (?)

As for weapons, you've got to feel it.

Hey Tyrant, just wanted to say thanks. I've been struggeling with this for a bit but your vids and walkthroughs helped no end!!! I've only gotten four done so far but because of your help I've got the basics in place so finnishing the whole thing is just a matter of time. :) Thanks again

bdw, I've got the vids in my file share, I did a few things differently so if your having trouble they might help (especialy with that damn hammer jump, I've figured out how to be able to do it a few times).

What is your strategy for the hammer jump? Can you give me a walk-through? I have seen it in videos, but I cant replicate it. I am either hitting the hammer too soon or late, or jumping backwards to far. I am not sure, but I am not even close....

Backwards?! What? You go forwards. I know it doesnt make you go as far but its easier. What I did was practice for about a half hour on Zanzibar (or whatever it's called now, the map with the windmill), you put your sheilds to 300% so you dont need to worry about it then pull up a gravity hammer with forge and try jump from the ground beside the pylons up to the top of the stairs of Camp Froman using the plasma+hammer jump. When you've gotten the hang of it put your sheilds back to normal and do it a few times to make sure your doing the way that does the least amount of dammage to your sheilds.
A good refrence for how long the little ridge you stand on in the halo level is one and a half pallet lengths (thats a little shorter then it is but its better to get ust to less space). also dont worry if you run outa plasma grenades on Halo, just kill a floody elite. Not only will they probibly give you fresh nades but if you kill em by bashin em you'll get your sheilds back.
The best way of killin em is by strafing to the right around em, wait till they swipe then smack em in the back, do this a few times and their toast. I do it a few times in my vid if you dont know what I mean.

Oh and something to watch out for is some times you have the nades but the music blots out the noise when your changing em so you think you only have frags. >:(

As for weapons, you've got to feel it.

Eh? Just look at your shadow silly.

Oh right, about grenade sounds - turn on a soundtrack on the Xbox360 Guide and pause it. The Marines and the Enemies will shut up and the in-game music will be gone because they think that you're listening to music. Not good when you're searching for hiding Grunts but when you need to know what grenades you have, it helps you out a lot.

Vince - Thanks for the idea on the Fuel Rod gun. It seems like a better alternative for me as you can get to the top with two good shots/jumps, as opposed to with the grenades where you have to manually regenerate your shields in between each jump.

Squirrel - Ill give forwards a try, maybe that will be easier for me with the hammer. I have gotten pretty good at smashing the flood, their attacks can be pretty predictable. The only reason I am trying to avoid them is I haven't found a way to keep myself alive when you get attacked really hard once you reach the top and are trying to clear the path for Spark.

As far as telling which weapons I have, I usually look for my shadow, it will show your equipped weapons. I need to tune my ears to the grenade sounds....

You're welcome :-) I realized it when I was listening to Marty's music (trying to get my inspiration up so I could complete The Storm) and when I paused, no music, no dialogues. When I pressed stop, it all came back though :-)

hmm, I'm not sure if this is the right place for this but I read the joining requirements and it says I need to show the score records. If it shouldn't be here lemme know and I'll delete this. :)

Vince - I just watched your video on killing Hunters with a spiker. You are shooting them in the flesh part and then use a melee and repeat, correct? Will only certain weapons stun them on a melee attack?

Good question! To be honest, other than the Plasma Rifle and Spiker, I have no clue. I think it has a lot to do with the time in between when you can melee and then shoot. It's very specific, but if I recall correctly, I did try it with a Shotgun and that worked...but not as well.

The reasoning behind using a Spiker was the fact that the Spiker and Brute Shot do more melee damage than other weapons. I had meleed a Hunter to death with a Brute Shot, so I figured why not test this?

As for the process, yes. It is shoot followed by a melee. To maximize damage, use a quick burst and then melee. If you fire for too long the stun will wear off.

In all honesty, though, I recommend you practice it a lot if you're even thinking of using it. I'll admit that I haven't done this during a successful run. As is always, this was trial and error...the technique is meant for 1 vs. 1. However...the other Hunter would usually back him up. You also need to be cautious of the Marines. Their grenades slide across the ground.

I'll see if I can't get a new video up for it. You can also check out my 1 vs. 1 video in my file share. I assassinated a Brute Chieftan (with a Hammer) without Cloaking or anything to assist me.

Jump down to the level below and just let the Arbiter kill everything.

Though on Mythic I find it safer to just shoot them with the plasma combo.

Hello, Community!

Hopefully if you're reading this, it's because you're interesting in kicking your campaign experience up a notch by cranking up the Legendary with all skulls activated :-) Need advice? A guide? Maybe even a friendly community to cheer you on and help guide you through the process? Then give our Mythic thread a read, and Godspeed on your Mythic journey!

Yes the hammer/grenade jump on Halo is rather tricky, but I've practiced enough times on easy to where it's now almost second nature.

I'll have to check out your version. I still prefer to jump without having to use an explosive to increase my height, though.

I think later on I'll continue my shenanigans in the Motor Pool. If I can find a way to beat that fight with no Plasma Pistol, I can beat Crow's Nest without the Plasma Pistol.

But I probably won't even attempt it anyways. I really just want to do some Quad-Mythic.

I'll be home this weekend, and Jew Man finally has a mic! :-D So if Starocean is up for it, we should be good to go. If not, Gazas is coming along nicely with his progress.

Hopefuly I'll have my cable back by then. The man is supposed to fix it tomorrow. Hopefully he can. I miss XBL. lol.

  • 10.21.2008 5:22 AM PDT

I'd miss my XBL Live too.

I've actually been working on a Quad-Mythic plan of attack for the Storm.

We'll be there soon. Hopefully sooner rather than later. lol. Our biggest issue with that mission will be the segment following the Scarab battle, since most of us tend to use the Arbiter from that point onward.

And yeah, I've already got a great deal of that part figured out. I'm just having trouble deciding who is going to do what.

Player A, B, C, and D are just to generalize the plan, but D could be you and A could be Starocean depending on how it looks in the long run.

Post #7777 would be a real accomplishment ;-) (the odds of someone landing a number higher than that with all 7's is pretty slim)

It should be in order of player hierarchy in terms of which player is introduced first just to make it easier. Chief = A, Arbiter = B, and so forth. How does that sound? Make sense?

OMG! I finally finished the Halo level on Mythic! I pulled an all nighter and practiced that level for 6 hours straight before finally beating it! Such a great feeling! Thanks to everyone who helped me with the vids for the grenade and hammer jumps. I ended up doing a hammer jump up the first ledge and then a grenade jump up to the ceiling.

I know this level is easy for a lot of you, but nothing came easy for me on this thing. I was lasered by Sgt. Johnson a dozen times, a few times the Arbiter just disappeared and never came back (weird) and then i kept getting bad bounces/rolls on the warthog. I would end up rolling right off the edge. Many many frustrating moments, but its all worth it. Ok, well I had better go shower and get ready for work, it is going to be a long day.

  • 10.21.2008 5:43 AM PDT

Yes, that would work, but like I said...I haven't gone through the entire mission planning for what each person is going to do. I'm going to work on that in a bit. It's most knowing what X amount of people will be doing for one segment and X and amount of people are doing at a different point.

And how come the Q&A doesn't mention luck with the kamikaze runs?

I mean, in a way, yes, they're skillful. But luck is still a very important factor.

I knew you could do it, Snarls. Yes, Johnson does have a twitchy trigger finger with that laser. I've mentioned it in my walkthrough a few times. lol. I don't really deem it as "easy" per say. Just easier than the rest. But I bet it feels good to have it behind you now, doesn't it :-) Now you've reached a fork in the road. You can eith up the ante with the ultimate Flood challenge with Cortana, or you can start practicing those anti-Covenant skills on the Storm. Of course you can choose any level you'd like, but those seem to be about equal in difficulty for individual reasons, and I'd highly recommend trying one of those next.
