I'm still lurking but I've been a bit busy lately.

Yeah, it's hard not to melee when I want to. The general run down of the level openings (up to the point you can get your first weapon that you can use) I've done so far are...

Sierra 117 - Hop over log and hop back after the Brute starts talking. Let Arbiter and the Marines deal with them. Take Brute Shot and Plasma Pistol and continue.
Crow's Nest - Proceed downstairs and head for the left-most weapons rack, which gives you a Magnum and a BR. Dual-wield another Magnum and head for the hanger. Drop one Magnum and swap one of your two Marines a Magnum*. Then give the other Marine a Magnum as well. Open the door and sit back. If the Marines don't kill all of them, you'll have to start fighting use grenades, though they have never died without at least killing one Grunt for me.
Tsavo Highway - Drive until you squish enemies. Simple as that.
The Storm - Grab a Plasma Pistol and Plasma Grenade outside before going in.
Floodgate - Proceed as normal and pick up the Gravity Hammer.

* Magnums allow the Marines to headshot the Grunts in close-quarters, but most of the time they will consider the Grunts "too far" out of firing range and will choose to spam grenades. BR, while capable of headshots, extends their firing range and has proven less effective.

Sems like you've got it all worked out, as for the Magnum thing I see what you mean, I might try it sometime because I've tried the Storm a few times before and at the start all the Marines rushed the Grunts but they can't use BRs in close quarters to save their lives (yes I did give a Marine a BR, I was hoping he'd headshot the Grunts but like you said above, all he did was throw grenades).

Anyway what is it in specific that makes Crow's Nest the second hardest Mythic mission? Would I be correct in thinking about the hordes of Brutes in the barracks and the Phantom drop in the first hangar?

The hanger isn't that tough if you know what you're doing. The tricky part is the Motor Pool battle, or at least it was tricky before I found a solid plan to work through the area which later landed itself in the walkthrough once I showed it to the rest of the orignal Team Mythic. (Though it appears I was never credited for that in the walkthrough of Crow's Nest, I can find the post where I mention it...)

What was tough about the Motor Pool was the fact you can easily get overwhelmed by the Brutes, who would frequently come after you in pairs. And then of course, the Chieftain would sometimes attack you before all the other Brutes were dead, and other times he would wait.

After the Motor Pool, you end up in the Barracks, and the second Chieftain can be a little tricky since you can't deal with him too directly, seeing as he usually has three or four Brutes to help. Luckily, you get Arbiter to help.

Then there is the Jumppack Brute fight. Some people find this difficult, but for some reason it never really phased me.

I see. I'd forgotten about the Motor Pool, now you've reminded me of what it was like on normal Legendary. Mythic's gonna be nasty. As for the Jump Pack Brutes I've never felt too threatened by them seeing as I've always waited for them to land then blasted them with my Plasma Pistol before finishing with a BR, so as long as I can do that with the Blind skull on I can't see many problems.
Thanks for helping, I'm just planning different sections of the Campaign out whenever my little brothers are on the Xbox.

Jumppack Brutes was a pain in the ass for me. Why? Because I stayed in the unsafe, damn elevator. With that little hole, Carbine Brutes attacking me if I have no DC and the flying Brutes with their Brute Shots, I have no momentum staying in the elevator. Arbiter can't do -blam!-, he takes out his Sword as soon as he gets blown at.

Ouch, I would never stay in the elevator though seeing as there's more room to move around behind the elevator.

Yeah, by the door. And sometimes, the Brutes won't even see me, easy assassinations.

Honestly, I use both methods and I've never bothered with the Deployable Cover. I just keep an eye on the door and make sure I don't leave myself exposed. As long as you're not exposed, they'll move to the center. Where you want to fight just depends on what you're wielding. I actually find Arbiter pretty useful, so long as he doesn't have a Shotgun...when he goes in with a Sword, he distracts all the Brutes and it's so easy to hit them with the Plasma Pistol. If I am using a Plasma Rifle, I move around behind the elevator. The Brutes are relatively easy to deal with using it. Hell, Carbine Brutes are pushovers; if you move out from cover, fire a few Plasma Rifle bolts and pull back, they won't fire back because they only retaliate when they're hit and not when you pull the trigger. Thus there is enough time to pull back.

I get it, you use the slower speed of the plasma bursts to time your attacks which gives you time to get to cover then pop out again when they calm down.

Also a quick status update here but I've just re-entered the Projector room on Cortana, so far the rest of the mission has been a pushover - I actually killed most of the Pure forms in Hell's Hallway before I advanced to the Hive - and I got some random crap happening to boot. I'm just taking a break to get sometihng to eat and hoping that things keep going the same way they've been going so far.

Nicely done, Matclan. This is one of the toughest areas. The key is to deal with them in waves. Did you set up the deployable covers like I showed you in the video?

Yeah, the covers are set up almost the same way you do in the video, I also used those other two covers to block the Flood spawn point , hopefully it'll hold them off long enough for me to gain a decent foothold in the room. From there on it's plain sailing.

More or less. I don't really have to wait but a second or so before they stop paying attention. In the case of other Brutes with lesser weapons, I can just kind of stand there and hit them with 2-3 bolts of Plasma Rifle, wait for them to side-step, and fire again before they side-step back in to view...by predicting their actions, they end up getting hit and losing their shields quickly.

Anyone know a good way to kill all of the Brutes at the part before the Wraith in Tsavo Highway?

Take a Chopper or Warthog on to the overpass area. You can deal with most enemies from there. Once their numbers start thinning, though, you can take the path to the left to get headed over to the small base where the Chieftain(s) will be at. You should be able to take out one of them with the Warthog/Chopper.

I can't believe it, I just suffered the most bogus death in my entire Campaign experience.
I'd cleared out everything in the Projector room and entered the corridor where the Tank form spawns; he spawns then a wall panel gets knocked off by an explosion and speeds down the corridor towards me. I had no room to dodge and got crushed against a pillar.
Then to add insult to injury the Tank form ran over and performed the Flood equivalent of a teabag.
This is my body after the impact of the wall panel... Not a pretty sight.

Thats why I always ran down the left side for that area. So if anything like that happened, it wouldn't effect me.

Thanks, so next time I'll hug the left wall then deal with the Tank form and be on my merry way to rendezvous with the Arbiter.

You either need to rush the Tank, or immediately strafe back to the room the second the door bursts open. The Tank is notorious for flipping the panel around.

He didn't flip the panel, I checked in Theatre and the panel started moving before the Tank spawned, the cause was one of those random explosions that are happening throughout High Charity after you destroy the reactors.

But other explosions are just aesthetic. They can't harm you in any way. Try standing over one. It won't even brush your shields.

I know, but they can move objects, you don't get damaged but things get thrown around, one of the crates containing a Plasma Pistol was thrown too but it missed me.

This is true. During the Quad-Mythic run when I stood in the corridor that drops in to the Hallway, I had plenty of time to sit on explosions. No damage, but this crate by the entrance was getting pushed every now and then by one.

A very interesting observation indeed.

  • 01.12.2009 12:43 PM PDT

I'm almost certain that Cowbell has a factor in it, too. If I remember right, it amplifies explosive force to all things that aren't the player...hence why enemies can go flying so far from a grenade...but even the aesthetic explosions, like on Cortana, can cause every little thing to become damaging...

I remember I took damage from a barrel on Crow's Nest even after it had been rolling...

Does anybody think it's annoying as hell when you deploy a Bubble Shield and when a Brute tries to melee you and miss inside the bubble, they hit the middle and it deactivates.

  • 01.12.2009 1:50 PM PDT

Eh...I think it's more annoying when they miss and hit a grenade and make it explode, killing us both.
