Yes, you explained it better; it's the Brute I can't predict. Anyway seeing as you recommend the Ghost (and used it in your no Plasma Pistols run) I think I'll give it a try.

Oh and a few things about you no Plasma Pistols run through The Storm: Were my eyes deceiving me or did that Chieftain with the Hammer splatter himself with a box? And did you destroy the AA gun with a Magnum just for the sake of it or was there a reason, I mean why not just use the turret seeing as you get infinite ammo?

Lol, yep. He did kill himself with a box somehow. I was checking to see if his Invincibility was under it.

As for the A.A. Gun, it's been kind of a running joke. The first time I beat the Storm on Mythic (back before I had a film for it on Mythic), I had used up every bit of ammo I had, and the only thing I had left at my disposal was the nearby Magnums. I picked one up, pointed and fired and the A.A. Gun blew up.

After that, it became a habit for me to do so every time.

How do you destroy one with a Pistol anyway? I gotta see that.

Point and shoot, pretty much. Granted the Plasma Pistol is much, much faster than any other way of destroying it and now is my preference.

Obviously point and shoot, what I meant was, isn't a Pistol too weak to destroy a Wraith? I can't expect it to get destoyed by some Pistol bullets?

Unless you shot it on the back....

It just sounds like trying to kill a high ranked Brute with a BR...

Hello, Community!

Hopefully if you're reading this, it's because you're interesting in kicking your campaign experience up a notch by cranking up the Legendary with all skulls activated :-) Need advice? A guide? Maybe even a friendly community to cheer you on and help guide you through the process? Then give our Mythic thread a read, and Godspeed on your Mythic journey!

Best Regards,

No, he means he destroyed the AA Gun with a pistol, not an AA Wraith :-)

If you would like to know more about Mythic difficulty please go to this thread. Thank you.

Please do not send me "recruitment messages" as I'm not interested in joining any groups currently.

Well I've just finished the Storm on SLASO (not Mythic, I used SLASO so I could practice different areas in preparation for Mythic) and I used the Ghost att he start as Vincent recommended.

After that I worked out that using the Wraith to bomb the next room then headshotting any remaining Grunts and Jackals before moving to spam grenades at the Chieftain and his cronies causes them to get annoyed and actually come down for a fight; suffice to say Wraith>Brutes.

Next I began teaching myself how to fight a Scarab; it pretty much involves "blast the back off with missile pods then when that's gone keep firing until it gets annoyed." after that a quick Sniper Round to the core brought it down.

Then I retrieved my Rocket Launcher from the top of the crane and handed it over to the Arbiter while I brought a Missile Pod along just in case I needed some more firepower.
Arbiter tore his way through all the Brutes in the warehouse so I triggered the Hunters to enter the fray, they did and were met by a lot of explosives which brought them down quickly.

Then I had a problem: Arbiter started staring at a wall and I couldn't budge him so I had to fight the next battle solo only to find out that my Plasma Pistol was empty... I pretty much improvised by using dropped Carbines, my BR and the Sniper Rifle found in the office to kill as many Grunts and Jackals as possible so as to force the Brutes back, amazingly it worked and Arbiter teleported to my side and proceeded to go crazy on the Brutes again.

And finally at the AA Gun things got rosy too, Arbiter misfired a Rocket and destroyed the Turret. So I killed the Grunts and Jackals again to force the Brutes back, thankfully it worked and I grabbed the Sniper Rifle and used it to weaken the core, unfortunately I ran out of ammo and had to finish with my Plasma Pistol.

Anyway, I know this is long and probably boring but I'm just pointing out what I've learned which is: Arbiter acts dumb at the worst times, and that I now know how to deal with each section of the mission.

Hopefully I'll be onto Tsavo Highway soon.

My advice is to save yourself a little bit of trouble, next time just turn off the Iron Skull :-)

Heh heh...yeah. When the Chieftain loses all his pals he'll leave the safety of his room to fight. It's funny when you have the turret in the room still working and a Warthog parked outside of his range. Two turrets vs. Chieftain = win.

Then again, I've also BRed him to death like I would a Hammer Chieftain. And like you said for the Scarab...Missile Pod the back until it's destroyed, hopefully before it actually gets turned around, and then go to the right side. Wait for it to fire twice, then hop back down to the lakebed so you have a perfect shot at the back while it walking away.

We realize that the Elites are of a fan-favorite, so it's probably wise to set aside your compassion and steel yourself for what is about to come. There are no Elites to fight in Halo 3: ODST. ~ Weekly Update.

I'm some what relived and disappointed.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!

Worst Friday ever!!!!! =)

Btw, I wanna ask everybody:

What difficulty will you start Halo: ODST on? Easy, Normal, Heroic or Legendary? Oor, Mythic, if available?

[Edited on 01.23.2009 5:11 PM PST]

No Elites? I can deal with that...especially considering these Brutes seem to be able to dual-wield, at least based off the trailer. We all know how easy it is to die as a Spartan on Mythic to a Spiker when the Brute is close...two Spikers against an ODST up close will certainly prove to be fatal much more quickly.

As for what difficulty, I'll likely start with Heroic.

They will be more brutal indeed.

I can deal with no Elite too, they were more interesting to fight though.

Though who would you fear the most, Brutes or Elites? I'm speaking Mythic here.

Seems to be hard actually...but which one would you think in ODST?

It'll be interesting anyway, since they're getting new behaviours and more bigger and, well, more brutal.

  • 01.23.2009 5:19 PM PDT

Recalling back from the days of Halo:CE, the one enemy that would pretty much always catch my attention as the biggest threat...well, just look at my avatar: Gold Elites. They had stronger shields than normal Elites and could certainly take a beating when there shields were down.

The Brutes, however, employed a lot more variety in their weapons in a way. Normally in Halo 2 you'd see Elites with Plasma Rifles and sometimes Carbines. A rare Needler every now and then, and of course, the sword. I can remember one with a Fuel Rod Gun, too.

Brutes...well, they not only can be seen using Spikers but also Plasma Rifles, Carbines, Beam Rifles, Brute Shots, Maulers, Fuel Rod Guns, and the Gravity Hammer. Their shield system isn't as good, but they did receive a pretty good variety of weaponry which will soon be supplemented by dual-wields. Just imagine a Brute with two Maulers...ugh.

Like one ain't enough XD

They say you should think twice before pulling the trigger in ODST. I'll probably think once...after I killed everyone in a dramatic Kamikaze sequence....beware. I'm not looking forward to it...=)

*Neuvostoliiton hajoaminen oli vain showta
*Saksa on löytänyt uuden tavan vallata Eurooppa ilman yhtäkään panssarivaunua

Legendary... right.. after that? Possibly Mythic... Ok.. hopefully.. and after that..? Nothing? Great, thanks...

Is this ODST actually even going to be ..hard?

I want a game that I'm not actually holding my controller still. As much as I can't live with the fact that a game is not making me angry.

Game needs to be actually that hard that enemies are actually beating us unlike the opposite.
