Achronos: And what's this about a "design team" I've been hearing? Apparently stosh is so awesome he's now considered a "team".

I have already preordered the LE of halo wars and i hopefully get it on feb26th i will go staright to the hardest difficulty cause i like challenges and im a persistant bathtard.

Ontopic: Can someone please make some pics or put a vid on gamevee about these shortcuts i can do both parts fine most of the time but i am slow. Ohh and thanks pahat for making me realise that the first part can be done without the BR i use the pistol makes for more challenge and you don't always need the BR.

I second that notion. I'm sure between all of us we can find a reliable person capable of doing this.

It took me a while to actually win Skirmish as the Covenant. I eventually skipped the use of Shield Generators for my base, built two Warehouses, followed by a Temple.

Upgraded Warehouses...built two more. Upgraded those while getting some troops out to guard the approaches. Got Age of Doubt. Built a Locust to support the approach to the middle...Age of Reclamation...

Eventually I got my Scarab and...well, yeah. You win. It takes 6000 points to get a Scarab (1000 for Age of Doubt, 2000 for Age of Reclamation, and 3000 for a Scarab) and the actual time it takes to build is pretty long...but so worth it. The thing didn't take a scratch.

It's easy mode to rush in Halo Wars as covenant. Just rush with regret, and bombard their supply depot or barracks, and if they send out 2-3 groups of marines, cleansing beam them. All while upgrading your base. As soon as Regret is about to die, you should have a sizable army built up to come as reinforcements and finish the job.

I love the game, but I think they gave us a small map to judge the game on. It made me feel like Lord of the Rings: Battle for Middle Earth, where your bases are 20 feet apart...

You didn't finish the title. It's Battle for Middle Earth Real Estate ;-)

Anyways, the game is a lot of fun, but I'd still rather play this genre on the PC. RTS just wasn't meant for the console no matter what controls you put into play. In RTS, the mouse + keyboard interface will always out-perform a controller.

On Heroic0, as soon as I got the resources, I got 2 Scarabs, each going their own way to destroy 2 of the UNCS's bases. A thirs squad of Camo Honor Guards were sent out as scouts and I saw the last base, then I sent over Regret with a couple of Hunters and Wraiths.
1, 2, 3, gone. A little too easy, if you know how to handles your economy, you have basically won. =)

I'll theorize. Perhaps somewhere on the levels there is a place that, if a unit moves over it, you find a Skull? It's not like we can really search around in first person.

You can explore in RTS too. It's not as hard as in FPS so I predict that they will be easier to find, if you pay attention for them. Remember, everything is fogged, if you haven't been there, or if you haven't been there for some time.

Not too many days left til we can search for skulls in the three new maps.

One of the little messages that scrolls by mentions that the Brute Chopper outperforms the Ghost and the Warthog. I wonder if we'll have access to Prowlers, too?

I've been getting the hang of the controls for the Halo Wars demo today by playing Campaign on Normal, and I've got to say that I'm surprised; it all feels so familiar. Almost as if I'm using Forge in Halo 3. That said now that I've got the hang of things in Skirmish (Scarabs are fun) too I'm gonna give Heroic a shot.
Then I suppose it's back to my solo exploits on Tsavo Highway in Halo 3.

Also the cutscenes in Halo Wars are awesome, the full game is going to be a lot of eye candy after each mission. :-)

EDIT: When the full game comes out we need to get a 3v3 match going.

The Brutes should need a scout vehicle. The Chopper might be it, if not, hopefully a Prowler.

I still can't figure out how to get Gold medals though, I'v got it on the first mission but in the second mission, I keep getting Bronze or Silver.

Imagine Halo 3 in combat scenarios like Halo Wars.

I'm a great guy really.

Gold medals probably require doing it on legendary.

No, I've gotten gold medals on Easy and Normal, in the first mission.

Btw, by gold medal, I mean that you can get 3 different colorings on your difficulty shield when completed a mission, Bronze, Silver and Gold. (Could be Copper and Tin as the two first.)

Okay guys, seriously now. I think most of us can agree that it's a good game, but unless we're talking about Mythic, please post all your Halo Wars stories and such on Ensembles site. I'd hate to see this thread get locked simply because we strayed off the main topic for a few pages.

Not counting my last post, I did try to include Halo 3 in my latest posts =)

Anyway, while we're on it, on the last level, can you get two Arbiters with you on the Warthog? I managed to get Johnson with me after the cutscene where he died but he didn't follow me, he just stood by the door, is it the same with the clone Arbiter?

On that topic, I hope to have Sierra 117 done by today... if I can get myself off this demo...

I've successfully gotten wraith rushing down to a science. I get win on heroic every game now. Ima work on instruction video... no. Sierra first. Sierra. Sierra. K.

But I agree with you. We should keep the topic on task. Sierra time. Brb with my results.

Good luck Shadow! If you make noob mistakes, please give me the clips for my guides so I can have them in the 'What not to do section'! Nah just kidding, go give the Chieftain a stroke now, that's what Arbiter did for me in my run.

Btw, even with the sign in the OP, I hope no ninja will be mean enough to actually watch this thread go off-topic and lock it.

Great to see more people interested in this.

Btw, I found this in Halo Wars: SKULL BONUS - Certain skulls wil add or subtract from your score.

Does this mean that some skulls will make it easier, with other words, make Mythic easier?

I saw this aswell. Maybe some Skulls make the game easier or give the player an advantage.

On Topic: I got right to the end of The Storm today in 14minutes. Died on purpose because It was too slow.

WOW... Bungie favs has set a new low. Solo Backwards Whole Time. Im pretty sure just about everybody on this thread could do that on their first try. Is Bungie seriously just trying to make a sick joke or something about SLASO by putting SBWT on favs? My nerd rage is kicking in... all I have to say is that I can no longer logically consider myself being a bungie favorite author to be any sort of realistic accomplishment. SBWT is just too blatently and obviously demeaning to Mythic in every way.

Bungie doesn't pick the favs anymore. They choose groups who then in turn pick the favs. I'm not fan. Never really liked spinoffs, but what can you do?

Though the fact that they are no longer picked by Bungie, doesn't that defeat the purpose of calling them Bungie favs?

  • 02.06.2009 10:53 PM PDT

Everything is interesting if you go into it deeply enough.

Mhm. Seems to be the same stuff over and over, just from different groups. Gets a little boring, but it is cool that they give the opportunity to the community.

I have to say, if the Storm is an indication of what is to come on Covenant levels... I'm not sure how long it will take until my blood pressure reaches unsafe levels. If I'm not getting spammed by grunts, I'm being killed by my marines. I could make a montage already of the awfulness of the marines.

I'm not sure which one takes the prize as most awful. Probably the marine in the warthog shooting me with the chaingun until I died. A sweep I understand, but blasting me? Admittedly I was no shielded, but still. Someone needs contacts. I think the one that made me laugh the most is taking cover under the first blast door, and watching in horror as every marine primed a grenade and tossed them towards the window above me. I don't think one grenade made it through the window.

Edit: Did you really have to say that jew man man? I mean, really?

Yes, the Marines were my biggest threat on The Storm too. Just wait until you get tot he point where they respawn infinitely. ;-)
Grunts generally are only problems if you either aren't aware of their position or if they stick a Marine who runs into you. Good luck with your next attempt and wathc out for the Scarab's AA gun, it can and will kill you at some point.
Anyhow I need to get back to Tsavo Highway even though it feels so small after the Halo Wars demo. I'm going to practice the first Chopper fight then skip the battle of the Broken Path before practicing the final two fights.

EDIT: During the first CHopper fight everything went wrong: the 'Hog and Marines were killed, the Chieftain was still alive as was the Shade turret and both Choppers. However this did not stop me from killing all of them, and commandeering a Chopper. Unfortunately however the CHopeer just doesn't give the driver enough protection to survive a swarm of Drones.
So I tried again and the same situation panned out apart from instead of taking a Chopper through the barrier I managed to scrounge a Warthog which allowed me to make it to the Broken Path. After that I made it to Wraith Hill before getting mortared.
All in all it was a good run.

I was playing Big Team Battle (Social) earlier. Was just messing around driving around in a Mongoose, got 1 splatter kill while on it. Also, at one point, I was driving around and as I turned a corner on Rat's Nest I got splattered by a teammate of mine. So, annoyed as I was, I respawned and got on another Mongoose. Drove a bit more, as I turned another corner, splattered by another Warthog, by the same guy! It was annoying and funny. I also got splattered by another teammate in a Ghost in the same game. Overall was a fun game, I'm going to do it again tommorow. :)

It's possible to drive a Chopper through the tunnel and past the swarm, you just need to boost at the correct time to get you under them and far enough up the slight slope in the tunnel. I did it a few times. Would I recommend it? No, not really.
