I guess I can give a [not really] "vague" description of my method. I'll skip any mention of Plasma Pistols, as for all intents and purposes, they aren't needed for this portion [or at all, if you're up to the task].
Getting out of the Warthog, go head over to the Grunt corpse laying in direct sight to your right to pick up a Plasma Grenade. Awesome. Continue forward, hang a left after the second barrier and pick up the Battle Rifle. Head to the door, make sure to switch to your Plasma Grenade.
Once inside, head for the crate, hop on it and up to the walkway. Toss the Plasma Grenade in the middle of the four watching Truth's broadcast -- don't try to stick any of them. That will cause them to run away from the group which will reduce the amount of splash damage to the rest, and maximizing damage is more important. Don't wait for the grenade to go off, but immediately hang a left and start going down the ramp, putting a burst of BR ammo in to the Jackal's head. There is a slight pause in between the time the grenade goes off and he gets in to battle position and rushes up the stairs, so make the shot count.
Get moving down the ramp as soon as the Jackal is dead. If there is a Grunt near where he was (you'd be able to see him as you kill the Jackal) shoot him as you proceed down the ramp. From the corner, you have a pretty decent view of most of the Grunts. Kill them off, and don't be too cautious about your 10-o-clock. Any Grunt who comes out from the left side of the column will throw a Plasma Grenade. This normally would be very, very bad...but the Grunt seems to forget about the column, and he'll manage to stick himself on his arm. What a talented fellow.
If you don't see any Grunts, cautiously move out. If the coast is clear, keep your eyes on the back area and headshot the Grunts as they begin walking out. See if you can headshot them all without them retaliating. Once they're out of the way, and presuming you did this quickly enough, not all of the Marines will have come in to the room, and hopefully all four are alive. Open up the first door and let the Warthog in, gather your BR ammo and head up to the side passage, again remembering to switch to Plasma Grenades.
As you move slightly up in to view, immediately headshot as many Grunts as you can and avoid the incoming fire. They tend to be grouped up as you come out, so it is possible to kill that entire group. Take your time eliminating the stragglers, and eventually the Brutes will find their way to you. As they're climbing up, they won't have their Spiker out, so feel free to stick them with a Plasma Grenade. Pull back around the corner to avoid the splash damage and potential chain explosions. Once you feel that most of the Grunts are dead, and whether or not both Brutes are dead, go hit the switch and as quickly as possible get in the driver's seat of the Warthog, moving it up and angling it to the right to allow your passenger a better angle. This also gives you a much better position to reverse if need be, in the event a Grunt throws a Plasma Grenades.
Once that door starts going up, the Marines will let loose. It's actually pretty fun to watch a Jackal try to avoid all of the Frags being throw at it. The Marines will begin working their way up toward the Ghosts. Eventually, the Brute Captain will hop in one and try to get out. The Marines will continue their grenade frenzy, sending the Ghost tumbling about the room until the Brute either dies or is forced to get out. During this time you can move the Warthog up toward the area to assist in killing the Brute.
Once he's dead, collect what you want for the next area and get going.
