AH HA! I DID IT!

Sierra? No. Once again shut down just before dam.

But I've completed my second task.

I successfully ran through Floodgate Mythic style, while holding the Fog skull the entire time.

You know what I learned? You cant deploy equipment when you're holding a skull. Wierd, huh?

So that meant no regens, no bubble shields, no nothin. So I had to make an alternate way of my usual route. I ended up comming in at 5:27. So nothin too great there, but it was fun.

Very nice Shadow, are you thinking of running through anywhere else holding onto a Skull? I've heard that the locals in Flood free areas tend to give you strange looks for such behaviour, maybe they think you're a cannibal? That or the Brutes might think that you're escaping with the remains of their lunch and you know how tetchy they get when they're hungry. ;-)
Anyway I think it was a pretty decent time considering you had no equipment or weapons to use (except the cranium but it's not exactly effective is it?)

EDIT: Woah, it "blam"ed the word I was going to use instead of "strange". Wasn't even offensive.

Pure fear was my weapon. I knew that if I held onto the skull, everyone would stay away from me. And for good reason. Sad part is, I didn't wait until the start of the next level to see if there's any special bonuses, like a laser :). Oh well. I think I've got my next target in mind. Can you guess it? Halo. Yes. I am going to grab the Mythic skull and run through the level. This means I wont be able to do the super jump thing and skip the beginning tower. This also means that at the end, I'll have to jump in the passenger seat and let Arbiter drive me... gulp...

  • 02.20.2009 5:46 PM PDT

Everything is interesting if you go into it deeply enough.

Can the Arbiter even drive? After seeing his attempt to stare down a sentinel, sword in hand, I'm less than confident in his intellectual abilities.

I'm not too sure how great the DMV's are on the elite's home planet...

Hey Scapegoat, have you ever tried to kamikaze the Scarab on The Storm? I find it to be much more fun, and quite simple... So long as you wait till you land to fire your rockets...

Well, it wasn't that I keep failing there, that's just the second time I got there. Next time, I feel I'll get it right. Suiciding at that point seems sort of pointless, unless you are going for time.

As for a DMV on the Elite's planet... So far my experience of an elite driving me, which is 1. And the number of deaths directly because of the driver is also 1. Let's just say, the whole turning process seems to not have been something they covered in Elite DMV.

Slight problem: On Halo the Arbiter will not drive as far as I am aware. I've tried manning both the gun and the passenger seat but he just will not get into the driver seat. I think Bungie wanted it so you couldn't get lucky (or unlucky) with an AI driving.
Of course I could be wrong and using the wrong methods but hey, maybe he wouldn't mind driving a Mongoose?

As for my news I've got one somewhat annoying problem on Tsavo Highway; after skipping the main battle by jumping my 'hog over the broken road I seem to have problems with the Wraith in the valley. Instead of moving down to where the main fight should be he just stays in position and bombs me while I try to deal with the two Choppers. Unfortunately Choppers are hard to take down when there are Snipers watching you and a Wraith determined to kill you. Anyone else encountered this before?

I'm not sure, I don't know if a clone would drive or even how to clone him...
What could be a possibility though would be for Shadow to keep Johnson alive, that way maybe he could drive while Arby guns and Shadow hangs onto his skull for dear life?

Department of Motor Vehicles. It's sort of a joke though, since their tests of "aptitude" pretty much mean, can you find the driver's seat of the car? If so, you are qualified.

It's time for some more runs. Sigh.

Edit: First try and I'm up to the Scarab... Let's hope I don't mess up again.

Edit 2: Failure again :(. Totally forgot the Scarab could shoot through the wall in the little room. I would have survived, but it seems the shots set of grenades. And there were grenades all around me.

Well. I seem to have come to a standstill. Arbiter doesn't drive. He's just not that cool. I tried everything I could. But he just kept jumping in either the passenger or gunner seat... But then I went down to the mongoose, and he wouldn't get in unless I jumped in first, but then the weirdest thing happened...

I stood there, and he jumped in the driver seat. So I jumped in the passengers seat and was ready to go. But he didn't move. I shot him, I melee'd him. I did everything I could... he just didn't want to go. So I kicked him out of the seat, and tried driving up a little bit... maybe get him on his course... but then he did the strangest thing. He ran all the way back to the start. It was weird. And then, he wouldn't jump in back... It got me so mad.

Can someone please fill me in on how to clone arby and johnson? I'll try that next. SLASOSH (solo legendary all skulls on skull held) must be completed, or I'll just feel stupid.

I'm gonna try it on Crow's Nest.

You have to kill Johnson right before the cutscene comes. After you've killed the monitor and have to escape, Johnson will stand there, alive.

Same with the Arbiter (I think), if you kill him, two should show up.

Yeah, you can do both. Have a nice foursome.

Ok. Three times back to back, I made it to the Scarab. Things just seem to go wrong for me. Firstly, my *insert expletives here* marines kept manning the missile pods. This caused the Scarab to not spin around helplessly like I planned. Instead, it kept shooting at the marines, who as soon as I kicked off the pod, instantly jumped back on. Anyone else have trouble with this, and if so, is there a way to "convince" the marines to leave this to me? At this point, I may as well rush the Scarab, since I've nailed the first half of the level. I can't stomach more then one try per sitting since I always get to the Scarab now.

In other news, all three times I've run to where I left the warthog, after killing the AA wraith, the next room is always empty. I do give it a minute or two, so its only use is if you don't want to chance getting grenade spammed. I can guarantee one level I won't be playing for a long time after beating it. :(

Ah, marines on missile pods. I feel your pain, they're like kids in a candy store who see the biggest bar of chocolate. In this case however the bar of chocolate is the big gun (missile pod). Personally I just let them man the pods when I'm not using them and they seem to disappear every now and again (I think the Scarab kills 'em). And remember to use the missile pod on your left, for some reason the marines are less attached to that particular pod than the one on the right. Good Luck.

And its a shame you dislike The Storm so much, it's been my favourite Mythic mission to date. Beats the crap out of doing Cortana in excess of 30 attempts.

  • 02.22.2009 12:56 PM PDT

Everything is interesting if you go into it deeply enough.

I'm closer to attempt 100 than 30. Turns out that run, the marines were more attached to me. Instead of at least crouching in a corner when I used the pod, they surrounded me. This actually led to my death, since several of them crowded around me, and when I saw the AA turret start to turn to look at me, I backed off and tried to make a run for it. I got stuck in a square of marine love, a second before being taught how to fly by the turret.

Fail 1: Covenant killed me
Fail 2: The lazy marines who made a small pile of grenades killed me
Fail 3: Indirectly, marines killed me.

I see a pattern. Next time, I feel they will be more blatant in their quest to stop me.
