In addition to that, I'm still plotting the March Mythic Challenge, but I haven't decided yet how I'm going to do this exactly. I would like to incorporate Halo Wars into the theme. I have a rough idea of my wants, but just want to make sure they are plausible before I go out and start buying stuff :-P A Halo Wars themed challenge... This is something I could competently compete in. As for HW being released for PC... I just don't see the attraction. If I want to play an RTS on my PC, I will reach for AoE 2. My reason for buying HW is for an RTS that I can easily play with friends, and not have to bother setting up a system link.
On a Mythic related topic, last night during an intense game of Team Flags, I got into an argument with a friend via text messaging as to what the point of beating a campaign with no little bleep-bloop at the end. It started because he thought it was impossible to beat Halo (level) in 15 minutes. I promptly sent him a video of a 20 minute run. He replied saying I "skipped half the level and let the AI do everything". While this was a valid argument, it's not like I hacked or anything.
I told him he should give Mythic a whirl, and he responded "no r u jokin... i have a life. plus there is no point" I asked if the lack of an achievement was why he wouldn't try. He responded that with Halo, the only point of the campaign was achievements. I shot back a simple "halo 2?" to which he replied "never played it".
It got me thinking. How many people out there never played Halo CE or Halo 2? How many people ran through the campaign merely for the gamerscore. Looking back, playing CE meant playing the campaign mostly, over and over. It never got old, never got stale, and there was no achievement for beating it. The same goes for Halo 2. I played Halo 2 to death, without Live, and without achievements. Either way, I came out of the conversation wondering if achievements were really such a good thing.
Edit: Check out the Secret of Sandtrap thread
You can tell your friend that Halocharts.com has started issuing out "Mythic Medals" per Mythic level that is completed. Check out my page to have a look. They did quite a nice job with the look :-)
