The Mythic Threads (Halo 3) (ODST) (Reach)

Oh right, while we're at it, I noticed the only good weapon they can wield is the Plasma Rifle since they take these long pauses between their Carbine shots and they never shoot the Fuel Rods if they come up close. If they only shot as fast as they did in Halo 2, I wouldn't complain, since Plasma Rifles are very strong against Brutes.

Why would you say Halo 2 mythic is un-do-able? Jackle snipers are easy once you know where they come from.

Hell, back in the day I would go through outskirts with blind on for fun.

Halo 3, imo, is just too easy. Jackle snipers always seem to miss their first shot or 2 and the A.I is crap. Atleast Halo 2 was a challenge.

Yes, but if a Jackal Sniper misses his first shot and you also miss then you're dead.
Also Grunts on Halo 2 weren't grenade spamming menaces which were priority targets as soon as you heard them, let alone saw them.
And the Halo 2 AI also had humiliating moments... pre-programmed Scarab being one, enemies firing at the wall next to you while you were in cover for almost a full minute on Legendary was another.

Never had that problem. It's not like they strafe or anything...

I would prefer a pre-programmed scarab as opposed to one where you can just hide under or kill with a sniper before it even reaches its programmed combat zone and not once in Halo 3 has a brute actually tried to flank me let alone do it while avoiding the motion sensor and I have seen plenty of times where the enemy shoot a wall both right next to them and the cover I was standing behind 20 seconds ago...

So you've never had a problem with the pair of Jackal Snipers on the other side of the river whilst playing Sierra 117? Or the few at the dam?
As for Brutes being morons I have to concede that point, but at least they aren't hairy meatshields like they were in Halo 2.
Also just out of interest here but how can you destroy a Scarab before it reaches it's combat zone? I don't know of any instance of this happening seeing as the 1st Scarab clambers over a factory and the second is only available to be shot at for an extremely brief time during which it should be impossible to land the required amount of Sniper Bullets.

Ooh! They don't strafe! Why didn't we think of that! So clearly, you can beat Halo 2 Mythic in the blink of an eye!

And I said that it was not undoable.

I don't know about you but I would need a lot of practice before being able to kill invisible Jackal snipers at once without them being able to hit me.

MATCLAN, people have superjumped to the second Scarab and destroyed it. =)

Got a video of said superjumping? Would be an interesting option when I get up to The Ark onn Mythic.

Jackal Snipers can be good. I was playing Saturday and got to the Sniper Forest on Sierra 117. A Jackal with a Sniper was shooting the Arbiter. I peeked round the corner to kill him, and he instantly turned and shot me. Like within a split second of looking at me, I was dead.
Luckily it only took 11 minutes.

Here's one MATCLAN. I wouldn't use it though. Watch and you will see why.

Thanks, and as for Jackals on Sierra 117 I got to the river last week and the Jackal was shooting Arbiter as in your example but he sensed me as soon as I tried to line up a shot. Think I'd been going almost 20 minutes due to having Plasma grenades in the Grunt camp overturn the Carbine crates...

I see why Dark doesn't recommend the superjump... Undead Zombie Scarab alert!
That would really suck being unable to finish because you pre-empted the Scarab.
Thanks for the videos guys. :-)

Speaking of which I had the worst time on today on Legendary. It killed me like 100 times. I still got the Meta achievment lol.

Those achievements were my first experience with skulls.
Not knowing the multipliers and putting on all skulls except Iron and Black Eye (no Silvers either) just to get some extra points. I probably made it harder than necessary really. Good Times :-)

I remember that glitch from when it was first revealed. But yeah, MATCLAN, it's like you said. If you do that to the Scarab it becomes impossible to progress through the rest of the level.

As for the topic of Jackal Snipers, I did a run through Sierra 117 without using Equipment which gave me a chance to test out the spots I found to shoot at the third sniper in the level without having to inch around that corner. It actually turned out to be very useful because you can pick off Grunts, remove the Brutes armor, and kill the Sniper off, granted you need to be able to line your shots up quickly.

I got up there yesterday by equipment jumping?

You can also equipment jump onto the pelican on sierra 117 before it lands. :)

Hello, Community!

Hopefully if you're reading this, it's because you're interesting in kicking your campaign experience up a notch by cranking up the Legendary with all skulls activated :-) Need advice? A guide? Maybe even a friendly community to cheer you on and help guide you through the process? Then give our Mythic thread a read, and Godspeed on your Mythic journey!

Best Regards,
The Tyrant

I'm not sure if Halo 2 Mythic is doable, but I know that SonicJohn was able to do it SLASO style. The snipers alone make me want to say NO to Halo 2 Mythic.

Here's my thing, though. I know that it can be beaten on SLASO, so it's not that I think that it would be impossible, but it just wouldn't be any fun for me. Halo 2 Legendary wasn't fun IMO. It was just a challenge to overcome. Halo 3 Mythic is both challenging AND fun. I don't mind spending hours on end doing a Halo 3 Mythic mission for the first time, but Halo 2? To hell with it...

To be honest the highest I've done Halo 2 on was Heroic, I had one go on Legendary but Elite after Elite just kept spawning out of the boarding craft on Cairo Station and instantly knowing my location and after a while the deaths just build up and you say to yourself "Never again..."
Yet on Halo CE and Halo 3 I'm more than content to keep retrying sections because it's just more fun and the AI doesn't give you the "I get ten moves for your every one" crap over and over again.
Maybe I'll get back to Halo 2 on Legendary one day.

Also Vincent: I've used your rock to hit that 3rd Jackal by the river before and it works a treat, for once he doesn't know you're coming. Unfortunately I made it to the dam during that run but had neglected to stockpile weapons and equipment... Big mistake.

  • 04.27.2009 8:12 AM PDT

all you gotta do is draw a circle where the aimer is and whenever your confused on weapons shoot it, or find one on the ground and swap and then swap back. (look at the ground when swapped)

Or you can just memorise where the reticle is and look at your shadow to see what weapon you've got. The reload sounds are also quite distinctive.
Blind seems like the most daunting skull at first but really it's nothing more than a minor inconvenience which actually comes in handy sometimes. Black Eye on the other hand is the real beast of Mythic. That or Catch... Damn marines.

Blind does nothing to make the game harder. Its just psychological. It doesn't make aiming any harder. You grow to play with that style.
The health thing isn't that bad either. Sometimes you see a quick flash to see your shields go down. And other times Chief lets out a quick scream. Other times you can see blood on the floor, which means your shields are down. And to make sure, hop on a vehicle and/or turret.
Ammo isn't a problem, just beware of the dreaded clicking sound.

Yeah, famine will cause a problem if you're trigger happy and a bad aimer. You don't need a lot of shots to kill on Mythic though so it shouldn't be a bigger problem if you know how to conserve ammo lol.

I think the only time I notice Famine is when dropped Plasma Pistols seem to run out of charge much too quickly. Good thing there's plenty of Grunts to kill.

The worst time I've ran out of ammo was on The Covenant. I was shooting the Hammer Chieftan and his helmet fell off. Just about to kill him when I heard "Click Click Click". I managed to stick his two bodyguards but he used Invicibility and I quit from there.
