The Mythic Threads (Halo 3) (ODST) (Reach)

Haha, I was at the dam and my hand slipped so I had almost no control of it while running backwards from a kamikaze Grunt. And then he said "Enjoy my bright. Blue. Balls!"

Lol. Teabagged by a Grunt's bright blue balls of death. XD
I remember during my Tsavo Highway run when a I killed a Brute and another said "He was my lover!". If I hadn't been in the Wraith I'd have died from being unable to dodge Carbine fire while laughing.
And then the Grunts occasionally say "The Demon is dead. Lima. Oscar. Lima." after killing you. Bungie certainly have a warped sense of humour.

Is it just me or can the Flood say "I like coffee!"? So random and so funny.

Never noticed that before. Normally they just gurgle and roar as they get beaten down or cut up. When fighting the Flood I try not to listen to them because it's Gravemind's voice and I'm sort of allergic to that guy after trying so long to do Cortana.

Mythic Conqueror of Halo 3 (#16) & Reach (#14)

Hey guys. Checking in again with my progress on The Storm. Well. I had one hell of a run.

I got up to the first lakebed where you jack the Wraith, and after I finished that area, the door opened, and I jumped out of the wraith to take care of business. Little did I know, 2 brutes came down and 1 jumped in the wraith, and the other jumped on the gunner. WTH.

So here I am, with a BR and a sniper, and im like oh great. So I book it through the area, dodging mortars, and I see that all the PP have despawned. Well, after searching, I find one lone PP. So I am able to take out the wraith. Close call. So I get over to the next lakebed, and Im getting ready for the scarab. I was listening to music, and I thought it fitting, because as soon as the scarab came out, "Supermassive Black Hole" by Muse started up. Thought it made it a little more epic.

So as soon as the thing starts comin over the edge, I start launching a huge barrage of missiles at it. All of a sudden, I die. wth? So I go into theatre mode, because I just dont understand. Well, as it turns out, as the scarab descended, it's leg hit a Ghost, and it exploded, and flew up above my missile pod, and I guess I shot and the proximity damage killed me.

Weak sauce.

Ima jump on more in a bit. I'll get back to you guys tomorrow.

So here's something new. I was playing The Covenant tonight and came across an invisible berserking Brute. Needless to say it was the last thing I saw - or rather didn't see on my run. So I went back and watched to see what caused this phenomenon. Apparently he had been doused by a flame grenade thrown by his buddy, and his shields *popped* but his armor remained. So even though he thought it was down, it wasn't, and thus we have a camou-blam!-ed berserking Brute.

Note to Self: Keep an extremely close eye on the Brute Stalkers atop tower 3.

Interesting find however.

I have refined many of my tactics for that level and usually only die from being careless and getting antsy. I've started adding a Beam Rifle passenger to my Hornet in addition to the laser guy. Though it does take down banshee's faster, where it really shines is the assault on Tower Three. Between the two Marines, my machine guns, and missiles, the Brutes can be dealt with much faster which leaves more surviving allies to deal with the Hunters and Drones.

I'm also in the midst of figuring out an easier and faster way to deal with The Storm's Scarab. It really does seem to be the only true choke-hold of that mission.

I used to always add a Beam Rifle wielding passenger to my Hornet, but it usually resulted in me only having a Fuel Rod Gun and a Magnum to siege the 3rd tower with, not exactly choice weaponry for the fight at the top, especially since the Fuel Rods will be used up against the Hunters. Or are you suggestign that one should return to the Hornets via the long route of juggling weapons down the slope?

Mythic Challange
Finish Halo on Mythic difficulty solo with a mongoose.

I dont think anyone has done that before?

I told you a few pages back that Pahat Pojat has a run in his File Share of finishing on a 'Goose. Or at least he did last time I checked, I can't find one with a description detailing Mongoose riding at the moment, but I do remember watching one of him 'Goosing the final run.

When you exit Tower One, Marines will drive up in a Mongoose and Transport Hog. Get in the Transport Hog and bring your Marines with you. Stop along the way to equip one of them with the remaining Beam Rifle from the crate at the top of the hill (or from the crate outside of Tower One), grab the Fuel Rod Gun for yourself, and proceed down to the Hornet. Equip the pilot with your laser and make sure both the laser-wielding pilot and Beam Rifle-wielding Marine hop on the sides of your Hornet. This way, you will be able to bring all three weapons with you to Tower Three without the hassel of juggling.

Well I must be doing something wrong, because for as long as I can remember whilst playing on Mythic only a single marine and the Transport 'Hog ever turn up at the end of the Tower One fight. Or is my second marine always the one who dies when he tries (and fails) to single handedly take out the mob guarding my exit passage?

Not sure, but even if only one shows up, you only need the one Marine with the Beam Rifle. You can give the Pilot your laser. That way you have two passengers.

I'm still trying to stick with my "bombard it with missile pod as it starts comming down, and aim for the back" It worked before, but lately, I'll get the back off just as its back legs come down, and then I'll get grenaded from the troops inside of it. That part seems to be my big stopping point right now.

It does work most of the time, just like my original guide still works, but as I find easier ways to do things, I'm trying to pass that on to the players ;-)

Here's the dilema I'm finding with the original method. The first is that it seems to take forever. The Scarab fight can last 15-20 minutes using the missile pod method. This is mainly due to the fact that for whatever reason, the missile pod seems to target the legs rather than the back right off the bat. This results in a lower possibility in being able to take the back off quickly. If this weren't the case, I'd say missile pod the back and finish it off with the sniper rifle.

Now, because it takes longer to kill it this way, there's more time to screw things up and get killed. It happens all to often via the Scarab's AA gun. Sometimes you just can't react quick enough.

I'd like to try multiple methods for boarding the Scarab and dealing with the enemies onboard. If I can board it with a plasma pistol and BR, this shouldn't even be an issue. The problem is getting both. I'll see if I can juggle a Rocket Launcher outside and have it stick around to the point where I can hand it off to the Arbiter. The Storm is my next priority after The Covenant.

Which would reuire me to cart the Laser and Beam Rifle down the slope. Which is why I suggested juggling on order to bring my BR and Fuel Rod Gun along too.
Of course this is me acting under the assumption that an invisible barrier forms after reaching the Hornets, would I be wrong to assume this and still be capable of backtracking in the 'hog to fetch my other weapons?

You don't really need your BR at that point. There are usually plenty of Carbines and Beam Rifles at Tower Three to go around. Just worry about getting the laser and Fuel Rod Gun there. The Beam Rifle passenger is just an added bonus that will make things easier. When you're on the Hornet, you should have a Fuel Rod Gun and the pilot's Magnum. The pilot should then have the laser, and the Marine should have the Beam Rifle.

The Mythic Threads (Halo 3) (ODST) (Reach)

I have never needed a Rocket (lately) to deal with the Scarab. If you watch my The Storm run, you'll see the famous way of jumping on to it with the Gravity Lift. Plasma pistols are easily collected in the areas before.

Once on board, I don't prefer going to the sides as there are 3 Brutes there and along with a couple of Grunts, they outnumber you pretty easily. Jumping to the top of the Scarab is better since you can hide behind the little arch that's holding up the scarab turret. Although it is still risky as Grunts can stick you, and the Captain can maul you down before you kill him.

My favorite method would be jumping on the Scarab, then head straight downstairs. With the Plasma Pistol charged right when I land, I can take out the Captain fast and with that, the Grunts will go boom. Just don't get them to go boom near you. If you don't hear any major explosions from outside, they didn't pull out any grenades.
Once downstairs is clear (don't forget the turret), you can either wait for them to come or peek out to stick the Brutes.

Watch my The Storm run, it's the only mission I have in the Fileshare and it's just part of my new Mythic run.

The Rocket Launcher isn't for the Scarab itself, but rather for passing along to the Arbiter afterwards to make the last half of the mission easier.
