The Mythic Threads (Halo 3) (ODST) (Reach)

Posted by: SHADOWSTRIKE10
Hey guys. Latest update.

Running The Storm again. Revising my run with some things taken from Gaza's run, including boarding the Scarab. Well, I was able to get passed the scarab, but got to anxious after giving Arby the rockets, and went too far up, and the brute by the turret carbined me. But, I threw in the save&quit method when I died, so that I could practice the rest of the level. I feel pretty comforatable with the rest.

I should finish it today.
Did you find my run helpful?

Hello, Community!

Hopefully if you're reading this, it's because you're interesting in kicking your campaign experience up a notch by cranking up the Legendary with all skulls activated :-) Need advice? A guide? Maybe even a friendly community to cheer you on and help guide you through the process? Then give our Mythic thread a read, and Godspeed on your Mythic journey!

Oh boy, this time I made it to the missile-pod-ramp, jumped off the mongoose on the top, and the marine on the back suicided and killed me to. Sooooo everyone who's doing the storm, dont park your mongoose on top of the ramp. Seriously, dont.

During my 2.0 run, I shot him so I could use his Rocket Launcher later (I enter the area with a Plasma Pistol and Battle Rifle).

Good day, fellow Mythic enthusiasts. I return to you, victorious.

I put in another hour or so today into my runs, and have successfully completed The Storm (wooooo! go shadow!!!)

Of course, here is the stats-

The Storm stats

and the vid-

The Storm fileshare video

I used an assortment of tricks, and decided to go with boarding the Scarab. So I send thx out to Gazas for that particular strategy. Never would I have ever tried going out into the middle of the area, and jump straight at a scarab running right at me. After pushing an annoyingly hesitant Arbiter through the level, I was able to pull off the Turret shot at the anti-air gun, so thanks to Tyrant for showing me that pit as well as running me through multiple times, and dealing with my shenanigans.

My next stop? Probably Tsavo.

Stay classy, Mythic community.

... and dont give up on me yet!

It's a fun level in my opinion, very hard though.

Shadow, congrats, you completed it so it means you have what it takes to complete Mythic. Keep going! Don't forget to ask for help!

After last night I have decided that I will be adding a 2.0 guide for both Cortana and Tsavo Highway.

For Cortana, I have found hybrid methods (mix of S&S and Kamikaze) to get through many areas such as the Projector Room and the Hive. I'm working on faster and more sound methods for the return visits too.

I think the only changes I'll be making for Tsavo Highway revolve around the first half of the mission. I'm not sure if skipping the Drones for the Convoy area is the best idea, though, since it has to be done so quickly for it to work. Again, this is still serving as a walkthrough, and the methods must work 9/10 for beginners. We'll see...

A mix of S&S and Kamikaze, would that be like in Tsavo Highway where you take a Chopper to skip the certain area before the Wraith because staying there would be more risky?

Here's an example for The Covenant.

If you recall, the S&S method for dealing with the twin Scarabs is to arrive at the battle via Scorpion, then use the tank to take out at least one Scarab, next destroy the Banshees, and mop up the ground units. Then clear out the second Scarab with the tank and board it with the Hornet.

In the Kamikaze version, I speed through the area with the Gauss Hog and assault both Scarabs with Hornets. It's quick, but risky for two reasons. Racing in the Gauss Hog can get you killed with all the plasma cannons that will be on you the entire time, and also when you jump off the second Scarab, if all enemies on the ground remain, they will likely be nearby.

So now onto the 2.0 method. I use the Scorpion to get to the fight, then I assault the first Scarab straight away with the Hornet. Next I truck it back up to the cliff where I left the tank and remaining Hornet. I use the tank to kill the crew onboard the second Scarab and also eliminate at least some of the opposition on the Ground. Then I assault the second Scarab with the remaining Hornet.

Hence, it is a combination of both methods.

IPhone? Ya I need to get me one of those :-P

I was able to piece together the first half rather quickly last night. I'll try for the second half tonight.

I've gone toe to toe with Sword Flood a few times and have gotten to a point where they don't scare me anymore at all (unless I can't see him!).

Right now I'm working on a way to conserve camo for the return trip to the Projector Room without relying so much on luck to get me back through Hell's Hallway. This will keep you from having to put up Deployable Covers the first time through. My method for getting through the first time can also work for the second as long as there's camo to get through the door.

Ya it's pretty nice. I can bungie.net from anywhere! I just got it Friday. Still getting used to it.

Ima try to finish Tsavo today and then get to work on The Covenant. Then I think ima get Cortana out of the way, then finish off Sierra, then... Ima tackle The Ark. I'll leave Crows Nest for future endeavors. I just think I should use my time to get a hold of the giant.

I know what you mean, personally I'm not a fan of a lot of sand, yeah it was nice the first few times, but by the time it's done on Mythic I reckon that if I see any sand ever again I'll die of boredom.

On a side note I'm actually going to have a go at The Ark over the next few days despite it being the most difficult mission, I think I just want to get all the long ones finished so I can fool around more on the shorter ones. Also since the opening sniper fracas annoys me somewhat I may try doing a Pahat for that section, ie: I'm gonna run like hell and hope I don't get shot. If that doesn't work I'll probably take another look at several S&S methods.

Out of interest Tyrant, does your Cortana 2.0 run involve sprinting through the Projector Room via usage of a Cloaking device? I found that to be the most time and health effective method.

Hey, just out of curiousity, how much sun do you guys get? Seriously, you guys must be whiter than sour cream. Unless you have a window in your room. Probably not, I would think light hurts your eyes. lol

Don't get me wrong, I would love to someday join your ranks. But it would take me like a year to do. I like going outside, I can't stand playing Halo longer than 4 hours a day. Due to the fact that I have a "small" anger problem. lol

Much like the illusion that Cortana is the hardest mission in the game, Mythic being "too hard" is also a common misconception. If you have a positive attitude going into it, you should be able to finish your first run within a matter of weeks of casual play. After that, you can easily do multiple missions a day. Once you've gone Mythic, you won't want to go back to anything lesser.

Don't listen to the hype and try it yourself.

First time. It also despawns enemies so you can go back and set up cover if you need or want to, although there may still be a few Pure Forms lurking.
Of course it's not necessary to go back at all, and I suppose it would be possible to camo-rush it on the return journey too.

So you start with insults and then say you want to try Mythic? That's quite a contradiction, and it's also not very good to generalise and stereotype peolple you don't know, I'm quite sure that most of the people in this thread all either do quite well at shool or have a job and a social life to boot. Halo 3 is still a game and therefore meant for recreation despite the many different ways of being able to play it. Mythic difficulty is still part of this game and is more like a brain teaser than a test of skill (of course if you can't shoot without a reticle it takes a little more getting used to, but generally I view it as a relaxing puzzle, similar to puzzle balls which you can take apart then reassemble).
Oh and no more than 4 hours per day? That's hardly a problem, I often only play one attempt at a Mythic mission each day unless I've got a lot of free time at that particular moment or a drive to succeed. Don't flame what you haven't tried firsthand.

Actually, the camo isn't even needed for the first time through. I found an easy way to get through while barely getting touched by the enemy if at all. Yup, I am aware of the despawns which is why in 2.0, so far I rush the Projector Room (but in a safe 2.0 manner), and later return for camo and to set up Deployable Covers. However, if I'm able to engineer the return run correctly, the Deployable Covers may not even be needed for the Projector Room.

Also, out of interest Vincent doesn't seem to have been very active as of late, so would I be correct to assume that he doesn't know about my tryout the other night? Oh and next week I'm off school so if Vince does reappear by then we could get a good start if you wanted.

I just wanted to post a reply here thanking you for your awesome walkthrough Tyrant122312. There's no way I could have completed Halo 3 on Mythic difficulty without it.

I decided to start my Mythic quest in January, and after many hours, I finally managed to complete Sierra 117. Yes, that's right, I wanted to tackle the Mythic levels IN ORDER!

After finally beating Sierra 117 I felt pretty comfortable with Mythic and what it entailed. This was confirmed when I completed Crow's Nest on only my second attempt. Your walkthrough for that level was amazing. Especially the ranged shooting used in the doorway leading to the car pool. That was inspired!

The next three levels fell pretty quickly but then I hit a stumbling block... The Ark. That level was so large that it was quite demoralising having to play through over an hour of the same bit again and again only to die and have to repeat it all. After many fruitless attempts I ended up taking a break from Mythic for three months...

Anyway, I decided to give it another go 10 days ago and finally managed to beat The Ark!!!

The rest, as they say, is history.

To anyone reading this who hasn't actually tried Mythic yet, please give it a try. The feeling you get when completing one of the harder/longer ones is amazing. I was literally shaking near the end of some of them. The buzz I got from beating Sierra 117 and The Ark easily rivals that which I felt when getting my 45 in matchmaking.

So, once again, thank you Tyrant for your awesome walkthrough. If you could add me to your list of Mythic completers, (post-walkthrough of course!) that would be great. It would also be an honour to join your group.

Regards
Phil
