Reason why I hate Crow's Nest:

Hangar.
Hangar.
Hangar.

I've actually started finding that part rather easy. It's just a matter of managing from what I can tell. Have you seen my 2.0? I've started staying on the entrance level. Usually when I die there, it's a result of my Marines being stupid or me not paying attention.
Same here, that's why I have been keeping away from the entrance because the marines are actually aiming at the walls with their grenades.

If the enemies would charge up instead of standing there it would be easier though.

I've been practicing Sierra 117 as well, my only problem with this level is that I run out of projectiles after the Sniper Forest, even though you would think there's plenty of Carbine ammo in that forest, I can't get enough ammo. That, and the dam, taking care of the Sniper Jackals is easy but since I always bring a BR and a Sniper, I can't deal with the Brute down below with his Brute Shot. I prefer not to stockpile weapons

2.0 my friend :-)

Speaking of which, I'm pleased to announce that the 2.0 guides for Tsavo Highway, Cortana, and Floodgate are all now up and running. Enjoy!

One of the few and the proud, a Mythic Conqueror, I am.

Hey guys, I've got one more level before I finish Mythic, Halo! I finished Cortana today.

I have one tip for Cortana that differs from any guide I've seen.

After you blow the reactors and kill the single mauler brute, your only way out is to jump down through the hole created by the explosion and run for your life against several combat forms right? Well actually, you can influence them to come directly underneath the hole you will jump through using the following method.

After you kill the mauler brute, you should either have an active-camo or bubble shield as your equipment. You will most specifically need a bubble shield. Find the spot where the two active-camo are and juggle them one at a time with the bubble shield to the hole you will be jumping through. When you get the first camo there toss it down. This, along with your presence, should lure the flood over.

Now make use of your time and juggle the other camo to the hole. When you get back you should see four or five combat forms below. Prioritize here! If you have stickies use them now on the brute forms, especially any that are wielding brute shots or maulers. Eventually, the carrier forms from the Carrier Room will meander over. At this point you should have taken out any brute shot or mauler wielding flood. Note: the flood will retreat back to the entrance if you kill three or more so try and keep it at two.

When you are ready, activate your bubble shield in such a manner that it falls down the hole and on top of the remaining flood. This will prevent them from shooting you. Now grab your camo and jump down. Immediately run along the right side just in case the flood are a little quick on the draw. I have never been shot in this section using this method so you should be ok.

There you go, that's my method.

Good luck all!

Gratz on 8 down, my friend. And I'll happily check out your method for the return trip through Hell's Hallway.

Reading that, it does sound rather useful as well as amusing.

Was playing through Sierra 117 earlier today. 30 Minutes in and the Pelican arrives at the Dam. I was position behind a wall and went to look to see if it was safe. Got blasted to hell by the Pelican. Looked back on theatre and there was a Brute standing on the other side of the wall to me. Humans have bad aim in 2553.

I think you're only allowed one ticket per mission.

I think I tried about 10 times via Save and Quit before realising that the Pelican simply does not want another passenger. Then I tried to stick it out, but my only way to describe that particular battle is "messy". There's just no order to it unlike the Hangar battle which is quite structured in comparison.
Anyone got any suggestions? They'd be much appreciated. :-)

Completing Halo 3 on Mythic is just about the same as dropping your weight. It won't happen unless you really want to and make any plans for it beforehand or whatsoever.

But I do know that Halo 3 Mythic cost me dropping 65 pounds of my own weight. It took a while and it was about as hard as Mythic was for me the first time.

Congratulations! That makes you number 15! I was hoping for that spot. :-P Guess I'll have to settle for 16th eh? Only one and a half missions to go.

I have a slight tweak to a portion of the Ark that some people might find useful.

If you are having trouble keeping your marines alive immediately after the fight with the prowlers at the downed pelican then try using this method.

Instead of going down behind that rock to let your marines kill the choppers, go down the tunnel on the right side. Once you reach the end of the tunnel, poke out for a second, then turn around and head back to the top. This should cause the choppers to take notice of you. Once at the top position your prowler so both marines have a clear shot where the choppers will land.

The choppers will drive up the rock and jump over just as the original prowlers did, this prevents your marines from taking damage and allows them free shots every time a chopper makes the jump. If you need to you can also use this as an opportunity for shields. Simply wait in the area near the pelican for a chopper to land, it will most likely be off balance because the marine on the turret will cause it to tilt during flight. Plasma pistol it and hijack. There are your easy shields.

*points to my thread in the group* Old, actually. It's in one of my videos of the Ark...probably Misanthrope. However, it is rather amusing to watch, especially on the rare occassion a Chopper is going back over the hill at the same time a Ghost is coming over. It's priceless to watch the Chopper splatter the Ghost.

I went ahead and revamped my Crow's Nest 2.0, and this time I am thuroughly satisfied with the results. The Land Pad turned out exactly how I wanted it to, and I reverted to the 1.0 method (but without stockpiling) for the Motor Pool. It only took five minutes longer in total.

To address your Pelican issue, you have to run out there very quickly the second the elevator door opens, run down the stairs, jump onto the crate, and onto the Pelican. This has to be done VERY quickly. If you stop for any reason, or fall behind, you'll miss it.

Also, I learned NOT to bring any allies with you. Some times, Arbiter eventually spawns up there anyway, but if you bring Marines and such too, then the first wave will drop and the second will appear before you're able to make it back up, grab your camo, and take your position behind their spawn zone. Again, watch the NEW Crow's Nest 2.0 and it will show you exactly what to do.

I also switched up my method for dealing with the Drones, but just slightly. I don't use the Deployable Cover anymore. It seems like the Marines grenade it half the time anyway, but I still use the turret. At least being in third person allows me to see if or when I'm actually hit by stray plasma fire. I've started saving the DC for the Motor Pool battle. Again, it's in the video if you want to check it out, and as you can see, it definitely came in handy.

EDIT: And welcome to the Conqueror ranks, Midnight! :-)

Thanks guys! Oh and the post walkthrough leaderboard is messed up now that I'm on it : ) The entire url is showing instead of just my name.

As for the landing pad segment, I used the little hole in the side of the elevator to take out all the brutes. It served me well. Arbiter did the rest.

That works too, but check out the video. It basically takes waves two and three out of the equation completely :-)

Well, thanks for this. Yesterday I missed the timing for my Pelican ride but I managed it today only for the first Brute in wave 2 to drop grenades when I assassinated him and for another Brute to swing around and set them off. >.<
Nevertheless, the Motor Pool went down easily and by using Save & Quit I finished the remainder of the mission.
Interestingly I found that in the Motor Pool there are 2 unused Deployable Covers behind the left cover used by the Brute Bodyguards. Similar to in Cortana these stay active continuously throughout the mission when you choose to use them, so with a little foresight I managed to fashion a spawn trap for the Jackal Snipers who spawn when you're heading back to the bomb. This trap had the effect of confusing the Jackals and although one somehow escaped, it's much easier to deal with one Jackal as opposed to two.

And for the Drones I think it's much easier to just Brute Shot some of them out of the sky then make a break for the fixed Turret before dropping a DC and hosing them down.

If you're good enough, you can get out through an opening on the top-left side before the doors open. P.S. I'm good enough.
