Avid gamer since 'Pong' (yeah - I'm that old).

Halo Campaigner since the early days of Halo: CE

It's how you play the game that counts most.

The Covenant should fall tonight.

For those who get frustrated - don't treat this like a simple match - work at it. When you first attempt this - leave Iron off and try different tactics as you go along. Don't expect to beat it fhe first few (dozen) times you try if you attack it with Iron on. With Iron off - you will find your trouble spots and will be able to work on those repeatedly. You will find your own way around those spots and then can move on to the next trouble spot.

Rinse and Repeat.

Each time I've done a practice run - something unexpected happens - and I have had to work around this (hitting the elevator button too soon at Tower 3! The Arbiter dying right away inside Tower 3 and staying that way.).

So plan on spending 3 days conquering The Covenenant.

Day 1: Practice going through it with Iron off - just to get a feel for it. Last run of the night turn Iron on.

Day 2: Again - Iron off - trying different things (I've been trying to board a Banshee - just to do it). This time - when you come up to your trouble areas - you will have a plan of attack - and you can make sure that it works for you. Last 2 runs of the night - Iron on.

Day 3: Make your runs starting the day with Iron on.

This is how I beat Tsavo Highway - but it took more than 3 days because I had Iron on when I first tried Tsavo. Once I turned Iron off and just spent two days playing around on the level - I was confident that I could do the Mythic run.

I beat it first try.

What appeals to me with these Mythic runs is that I am naturally a 'Slow and Steady' campaigner. I don't mind taking my time and slogging through a level.

Congrats to those who have gone before and done this - and good luck to those who are working on it. Hopefully - I'll see you all at the end of the Challenge. Recon or not - I want to do this!

Hello, Community!

Hopefully if you're reading this, it's because you're interesting in kicking your campaign experience up a notch by cranking up the Legendary with all skulls activated :-) Need advice? A guide? Maybe even a friendly community to cheer you on and help guide you through the process? Then give our Mythic thread a read, and Godspeed on your Mythic journey!

The version 1.0 guide on HBO (also linked in the OP) has a great method for taking it out S&S style. Enjoy!

Yeah, nothing more annoying than actually missing the land, or in my case, landing inside of the Scarab with all the Brutes.

AGH SOO CLOSE. My stupid multi-playing instincts killed me just as I was leaving the 3rd tower. AGH I just wasted a good 2 hours getting there, little to no mistakes. And then I stick a combat form right in front of me and the detonation kills me. I'm about as frustrated as a monkey without a banana. It was only my 3rd attempt but I really felt like I could do it on that one.

I thought monkey's liked bananas?

Which is exactly why they would be frustrated without one lol

It's how you play the game that counts most.

On the practice run last night - I took the Hornet to the right ramp and set up shop there with the Scorpion and concentrated on taking out the first Scarab before anything else. I ignored the Banshees and the Ghosts unless I had to deal with them. The Scarab will turn enough times to allow you to take it out with the Scorpion.

I then cleaned up the remaining Banshees and Ground Troops and cleared off the second Scarab. Once done - I used the Hornet to board the second Scarab and easily take it out. Make sure you have some type of weapon though - I have had problems bashing out the shield.

I died once while taking out the Scarab's physical barrier in between the shield barrier and the core. I didn't know it could give you damage if you shoot it off. At least I learned my lesson: stick with grenades and stay away!

Anyone else find that you begin to learn the levels like the back of your hand, the beggining becomes frustrating because you do it so many times and the end becomes fun cause it's a treat to get that far and it becomes really intense? =P

Yeah, that's why missions like The Storm and The Ark where you are in a partial cinematic (such as the 'hog or Pelican) become so frustrating if you die a lot. It's only 30 seconds, but the same dialogue always comes up each time until you want to quit. :-P

I found that out with Tsavo Highway. It went from being able to get to the Wraiths (and die) without a problem to being so sloppy I wouldn't make it past the first vehicle barrier due to stupid mistakes.

That's why I practice now with Iron turned off for two days.

I can't wait to get home tonight and see if I can take down The Covenant the first try. I know exactly where my trouble spots are and I have a couple of ways to work out of them now.

I know eh? I now despise The Storm's opening because of this. And The Ark I will most likely do 8000 tries, so this shouldn't be fun. Oh and question, which is harder, The Ark or Crow's Nest? It will affect which I practice first.

Doesn't matter why you were banned. The fact that you were at all keeps you from winning. Not my call either way.

That sums up my time trying to beat the Covenant. It took me 22 tries, not including my practice runs. Good thing I usually died only 4 minutes into the run, although all that walking at the beginning became really annoying. But as soon as I get into Tower 1, the rest of the mission is fun, even if I end up dying.

This Mythic challenge is too addicting! I've already done some practice runs through Cortana, Sierra 117, and Crow's Nest. I've only got 2 days to complete Sierra 117 when that week rolls around, so I've been practicing that one quite a bit. I'm really starting to dislike (and fear) those jackel snipers.
